Zhou Yun was startled, “Master, what’s wrong with my daughter?”
“Signs of drowning, hurry to the pond near your home!” Lin Xi added, “I’ll watch your stall for you.”
“Thank you, Master.”
Zhou Yun trusted her words completely and hurried home in her apron.
Lin Xi sat nearby eating pig ears when Zhang Dama approached and saw her, “Oh, Master, you’ve started selling braised food now.”
Lin Xi’s cheeks were bulging, “The boss had something to attend to at home; weigh what you need and pay yourself.”
Zhang Dama skillfully weighed the food and seasoned it, “Master, I’ll help you sell; I often buy braised food here, I can adjust any flavor.”
“Speaking of which, Zhou Yun is truly a person with a hard life; she’s diligent and capable, but her husband and mother-in-law, tsk tsk tsk… they’re not good people…”
Lin Xi finished the pig ears and grabbed a pig trotter to gnaw on.
She finally experienced the joy of the grandpas and grandmas watching the fun.
Zhang Dama was in high spirits, continuing to talk about Zhou Yun’s family.
“Master, you may not know, Zhou Yun’s husband is a gambler; he sleeps at the gambling table every day, doesn’t care about anything, and all the work at home and outside is left to Zhou Yun.”
“That mother-in-law? At first glance, she’s not a good person; looking at her face… tsk tsk tsk… I’m too lazy to say, being a woman herself and bullying another woman, not liking her granddaughter…”
At this moment, Zhou Yun was rushing toward the pond east of her home.
This pond had not been maintained for years, and very few people came.
Once the master mentioned it, she knew where it was.
Zhou Yun often told her daughter to stay away from places with water.
Her daughter had always been obedient, so how could she come to a place like the pond?
On the way, Zhou Yun took out her phone to call Sun Li, “Hey, where’s Lingling? Tell her to pick up the phone.”
Sun Li impatiently shouted, “How would I know where that little girl ran off to? Don’t mess with my money-making!”
Zhou Yun became more anxious thinking about her husband’s character, “Sun Li, stop gambling and quickly go to the pond east to find Lingling.”
“Looking for what? That girl is uncontrollable; I can’t manage her.”
Sun Li cursed, “Damn it! I lost again in this game! Zhou Yun, it’s all your fault for messing up my luck. Just wait until I deal with you properly today…”
Zhou Yun hung up the phone without hesitation.
Sun Li, furious, tossed his cards aside and stormed out, “Damn! She’s getting bold; she even dares to hang up on me!”
Meanwhile, Zhou Yun ran into her mother-in-law, Jin Qiaolan.
Jin Qiaolan shouted, “Hey! That blind little hussy!”
Seeing Zhou Yun, her expression changed slightly, and she began to scold again, “Zhou Yun, look at what time it is now; instead of working, you come here to do what?”
Zhou Yun didn’t want to engage with her, but Jin Qiaolan held her hand tightly, “Zhou Yun, you’ve gone too far! You think you can ignore me now that you’ve gotten a little bold?”
“What are you in such a hurry for? Are you here to fool around? Let me see who your lover is!”
Jin Qiaolan’s words became increasingly outrageous, prompting Zhou Yun to shout, “I’m here to find my daughter; where is Lingling?”
Jin Qiaolan rolled her eyes, “Lingling is of course at home; a little child wouldn’t come to a place like this.”
Zhou Yun felt something was off, “What are you doing here?”
Jin Qiaolan coldly huffed, “What I do is none of your business. I warn you to hurry back to work, or I won’t let you off easily!”
Zhou Yun, frantic, pushed her forcefully.
Jin Qiaolan fell to the ground, crying and pounding her thigh, “Unfilial! How dare you hit your mother-in-law! Unfilial! Everyone, look at Zhou Yun’s true colors…”
Ignoring her mother-in-law’s antics, Zhou Yun dashed toward the pond.
Jin Qiaolan was startled.
Today, Zhou Yun seemed possessed; she had never been this assertive before and wouldn’t dare challenge her.
Not good, things are going south!
Jin Qiaolan quickly got up and ran to the small pond.
Her loud shout had attracted the attention of everyone nearby, who rushed over.
“Jin Qiaolan is causing trouble again; I say Zhou Yun should ditch these two old leeches.”
“Zhou Yun is soft-hearted; her family values boys over girls; she’s also a pitiful person.”
“Let’s go see what kind of scheme Jin Qiaolan is up to this time!”
By the pond, Lingling struggled in the water, “Mommy, Mommy, woo woo…”
“Lingling, don’t be afraid; Mommy is coming!” Zhou Yun jumped in without hesitation.
Jin Qiaolan secretly cursed, “Why didn’t you come earlier or later? This is really outrageous.”
A thought suddenly crossed her mind: if both Zhou Yun and Lingling died here…
However, a crowd was quickly gathering, so Jin Qiaolan had to abandon that thought and stood there coldly.
Seeing that the situation was wrong, the neighbors immediately shouted for help.
“Quick, quick, save them!”
Several people worked together to pull Zhou Yun and Lingling out.
The pond was full of moss and mud; Zhou Yun didn’t care about herself and hurried to check on her daughter.
Lingling coughed up some water and cried, “Mommy, Mommy…”
Zhou Yun’s heart ached, “Lingling, Mommy told you to stay away from ponds and places with water.”
Lingling cried, “Mommy, it was Grandma who brought me here; Grandma pushed me down…”
Jin Qiaolan cursed under her breath.
That little brat, coming to collect debts!
Of course, Jin Qiaolan wouldn’t admit it; she immediately shouted loudly, “This ungrateful child, at such a young age, learns to falsely accuse others! Zhou Yun, look at the good daughter you’ve raised; do you still have any shame…”
Zhou Yun’s eyes turned red, grabbing Jin Qiaolan’s hair and slapping her hard, “Jin Qiaolan, you’ve never liked Lingling, and this time you actually wanted to harm her.”
“I didn’t do anything.”
Jin Qiaolan shouted angrily, “How could our family marry a shrew like you?! Everyone, look at Zhou Yun’s true colors; don’t be fooled by her!”
Slap! Slap! Slap!
Zhou Yun gave her three more slaps, “As long as I can protect Lingling, I don’t care about being a shrew.”
Jin Qiaolan couldn’t fight back, screaming, “Murder! Murder!!”
The crowd turned a blind eye, pretending not to see.
Everyone knew Jin Qiaolan’s reputation; she loved to take advantage and spread rumors, and most people present had been harmed by her.
Seeing no one helping her, Jin Qiaolan desperately grabbed Zhou Yun’s hair, cursing, “You useless hen, what’s the point of giving birth to a daughter?! I’ll make Sun Li kick you both out!”
At that moment, Sun Li rushed over, “Zhou Yun, what are you doing? Let go of my mom!”
Seeing someone backing her up, Jin Qiaolan’s attitude became assertive, “Sun Li, look at what kind of wife you’ve married; she’s shitting on your mother’s head.”
Sun Li was furious and raised his hand to hit Zhou Yun.
A group of people pulled him back, and he could only furiously shout, “Zhou Yun, I’m done with this life; I want a divorce!”
“Go ahead and divorce!!”
Zhou Yun let go of Jin Qiaolan and stepped up to Sun Li, slapping him twice, “One slap for Lingling, one slap for myself.”
“You, you, you shrew!”
Sun Li was enraged, but he was held down and couldn’t do anything to Zhou Yun.
He shouted, “I’ll deal with you later!!”
Zhou Yun felt relieved and finally calmed down. Borrowing someone’s phone nearby, she called the police.
“I want to report; Jin Qiaolan is trying to harm my daughter, and Sun Li is gambling and soliciting!”
