Chapter 37: Who’s Been Playing Games with You Every Night?

Ignoring the fact that Fugui was wearing pajamas with Xiong Da and Xiong Er (two cartoon bears) printed on them and his chubby feet, the sheer bulk of him was quite imposing.

The man sneered. “Mr. Wang wants to see her; who are you! You can’t afford to offend Mr. Wang!”

“Who’s Mr. Wang! If you offend Qian Banxian, I won’t let you leave this street!”

Qian Fugui retorted directly, his momentum not losing at all.

In his twenty-plus years, he had never seen such an arrogant person.

Mr. Wang was nothing; this whole street was full of his underlings.

As long as he shouted loudly, a bunch of blond young men would immediately come to support him.

In the antique street, dragons had to coil, and tigers had to lie down.

Of course, Master Lin was an exception.

Qian Fugui lifted his chin even higher. “Humph.”

The man pointed at his nose, about to retort, when a steady voice came from behind.

“Li San, step back. Don’t be disrespectful to the two Masters.”

The newcomer wore a refined Zhongshan suit, his hair neatly combed, and a benevolent smile on his face. He looked approachable.

Seeing him, the man immediately put away his arrogant demeanor and respectfully said, “Mr. Wang.”

Qian Fugui exclaimed, “Your ability to change your expression is learned from a chameleon; it’s faster than turning a page!”

Li San secretly glared at him, not daring to speak again.

Wang Liangshan laughed heartily. “Master Qian, you’re as witty and humorous as ever.”

Qian Fugui looked at him. “Do we know each other?”

Wang Liangshan rubbed the prayer beads on his wrist. “I and your grandfather, Qian Jin, have been old friends for many years. I even held you when you were a child…”

“Stop.” Qian Fugui narrowed his eyes. “My grandfather didn’t know you. Don’t try to make connections falsely.”

Qian Jin, Qian Fugui’s grandfather, single-handedly established Dedao Hall, and legends about him circulated throughout Di Jing.

Actually, Qian Banxian (Qian, the Half-Immortal) referred to his grandfather.

Unfortunately, each generation of the Qian family was worse than the last. His father was a half-baked feng shui master, and by his generation, he hadn’t learned anything at all.

From then on, Dedao Hall’s reputation plummeted.

Wang Liangshan’s smile remained unchanged. “It’s okay if you don’t remember me; we’re acquainted now.”

He stepped forward and bowed slightly. “Master Qian, Master Lin, I have an urgent matter to request your assistance.  The reward is negotiable.”

Qian Fugui moved his bulky body, revealing Lin Xi behind him.

Wang Liangshan glanced at her without leaving a trace.

Master Lin is so young; I wonder if she can solve that matter.

If Qian Jin were still alive, he wouldn’t be so anxious.

Unfortunately, Qian Jin’s grandson was foolish. He had consulted all the other masters in Di Jing, but none of them were any help.

Wang Liangshan inquired everywhere about masters, and finally heard that a living god had come to the antique street.

A word decides the universe, a word decides life and death.

He came here with great expectations and could only pray that this Master Lin had some real ability.

Wang Liangshan kept his posture very low. “Master Lin, Master Qian, you two are magnanimous; please don’t mind Li San’s previous words.”

He gave a wink. “Li San.”

Li San slapped himself twice hard. “Masters, I’m sorry; I was wrong.”

Lin Xi said calmly, “This isn’t the place for apologies.”

One playing the good cop, the other the bad cop; she had seen this tactic many times.

“I understand Master Lin’s meaning.” Wang Liangshan smiled warmly. “I sincerely invite you to take on this matter.”

Lin Xi glanced at him.

This Mr. Wang’s marital palace and children’s palace were both filled with dark energy, yet he seemed fine.

Lin Xi looked carefully and discovered that he was tainted with a trace of cursed energy.

Strange, the curse wasn’t on him but on his wife and children.

Seeing her staring, Wang Liangshan maintained his smile. “Master Lin, look.”

Lin Xi waved her hand. “Get in line at the back.”

Wang Liangshan immediately said, “Master Lin, regardless of whether you can solve it or not, I will give you one million. If you solve it, I’ll add another five million.”

He added, “The same goes for Master Qian.”

Qian Fugui’s body trembled. Wealthy people are different; they casually throw around five million.

No wonder his grandfather had bought the entire antique street back then; it turned out that making money was so easy.

However, he knew his limits. This matter must be very difficult; otherwise, masters with some ability would have snatched it up long ago.

Qian Fugui looked at Lin Xi; she must be very excited about so much money, becoming a rich woman instantly.

Lin Xi remained unmoved. Five million was far less than the fifty million from Ji Heng, let alone Fu Jingyao’s black card.

She was no longer the poor Taoist priest who had just arrived in Di Jing and had never seen the world.

Solving the same problem, one thousand yuan per reading versus one million yuan per reading, the merit gained was almost the same.

Besides, she couldn’t accept so much money. It would be great if she could catch a vengeful ghost on this trip.

Lin Xi’s expression was calm. “Get in line at the back; we’ll talk about the price when it’s your turn.”

Wang Liangshan thought she found the offer too low. “Master Lin, I’ll add another five million; what do you think…”

Lin Xi forcefully interrupted him. “Get in line at the back; don’t make me say it a fourth time.”

A hint of astonishment flashed in Wang Liangshan’s eyes. Someone actually gave up ten million to choose one thousand.  This is a true master.

Li San opened his mouth. “Mr. Wang.”

“Shut up!”

Wang Liangshan dragged him to the back of the crowd.

Li San didn’t understand. “Mr. Wang, why must it be her?”

Wang Liangshan patted him on the head. “What do you know?  Not being tempted by money, that’s a true master.”

Li San looked at the endless line of people and sighed. “Mr. Wang, how long will it take until it’s our turn?”

Wang Liangshan narrowed his eyes. “Money can’t tempt Master Lin, but it can tempt others.”

He whispered, “Li San, go do it.”

“Yes, Mr. Wang.”

Li San left. Wang Liangshan stepped out of the line and stood aside, watching Master Lin perform fortune-telling. The more he watched, the more he felt she had real skills.

Lin Xi took a sip of water. “Last reading.”

Madam He walked over with a little boy. “Master, please take a look at my grandson. He was fine a few days ago, but he suddenly developed a fever.”

Huang Wenxuan whispered, “Grandma, I’m fine.”

Madam He rubbed his hair. “Children shouldn’t interrupt.”

“Master, please take a look.”

Lin Xi touched the boy’s forehead. “A common cold; the fever has subsided.  Just take some medicine; there’s nothing major.”

Madam He was still worried. “Master, I often watch you perform fortune-telling, and I’ve learned a little myself.  Recently, Xuanxuan has been talking nonsense at night. What’s going on?  Did he see a ghost?”

Huang Wenxuan fidgeted restlessly. “Grandma, that wasn’t a ghost. Put me down.”

“Okay, okay, Grandma will put you down.”

Madam He put down the boy.

As soon as Huang Wenxuan landed, he ran straight to Lin Xi. “Pretty sister, Grandma always talks about you at home. She says you’re super incredibly amazing and can make any wish come true.”

Lin Xi smiled. “What wish does Xuanxuan want to make?”

Huang Wenxuan said seriously, “I want Grandpa to come back.”

Madam He sighed. “Master, my husband passed away from lung cancer a year ago.”

Huang Wenxuan blinked. “Grandma, when is Grandpa coming home? Where did he go during the day?”

Madam He’s voice choked. “A very, very faraway place.  Grandpa will come back when Xuanxuan grows up.”

“Grandma, you’re lying.” Huang Wenxuan said word by word. “Every night, Grandpa comes to play games with me.”

“What?!”

Madam He was startled by these words.

Her husband had died long ago.

Who was playing games with Xuanxuan every night?
