Chapter 41: No Worship of Gods or Buddhas, Only of Koi

Wang Liangshan’s expression was flustered.  “Qianqian is sick and talking nonsense, Master, please don’t mind her.”

He’d gone to so much trouble to invite the Master; if he were to be driven away, it would be all over.

Lin Xi glanced at Wang Qian, then turned and left. “Let’s see the other two.”

Wang Liangshan breathed a sigh of relief, pushing open the adjacent door. “My wife, Hu Tao, is in here.”

Hu Tao, like Wang Qian, was submerged in a bathtub.  Seeing the two at the doorway, she frantically slapped the water.

“Wang Liangshan, who is she? I ask you, who is she?!”

“I’m not dead yet, and you’re bringing your mistress into the house! Do you have any conscience?!”

“Wang Liangshan, you have no conscience…”

Wang Liangshan roared, “Shut up!”

Hu Tao became even more agitated, her two crimson eyes fixed on him.

“Wang Liangshan, you actually yelled at me! Even as a ghost, I won’t let you go!!”

“And your mistress and illegitimate child!”

“You, you, you all just wait for me!!”

Wang Liangshan’s temples throbbed.

One after another, they were all senseless.

He cautiously glanced at Lin Xi, terrified she would leave in a fit of anger.

Wang Liangshan weakly said, “Master, my wife is… mentally unwell. Please be patient.”

“I can see that. Her imagination is even richer than a lunatic’s,” Lin Xi said calmly, arms crossed.

Wang Liangshan awkwardly chuckled, “Master, should we look at my son?”

Lin Xi turned to leave. “Move all three of them to one room. I need to question them.”

Wang Liangshan gave Li San a look. “Go.”

Li San looked at the people covered in fish scales and took a step back. “Mr. Wang, it’s not appropriate for me to get close to the Madam. You should go and persuade her yourself.”

Damn it! Old geezer!

He was just a worker. Asking him to touch monsters? He’d rather die.

What if he got infected?

Li San retreated to the stairwell, ready to run at any moment. “Mr. Wang, you do it. I really can’t.”

Wang Liangshan took a deep breath. He was scared too.

Although it was his wife inside, her current appearance was a hundred times more terrifying than a devil.

Thinking of Master Lin not far away, he gritted his teeth and rushed to Hu Tao’s side. “Get up, go to your brother’s room.”

Hu Tao screamed, “No! I won’t go!”

Wang Liangshan completely lost his patience. “If you don’t want to die, do as I say!”

Hearing the word ‘die,’ Hu Tao exploded. “Wang Liangshan, it would be best if I died. I can immediately make room for your mistress and illegitimate child…”

Wang Liangshan was furious, raising his hand and slapping her hard. “Senseless woman, why did I ever marry you?!”

Hu Tao possessed only beauty, lacking intelligence and emotional intelligence, utterly foolish, suitable only to be a docile vase.

He had chosen her for that reason.

Wang Liangshan believed that the man should be the breadwinner and the woman should stay home, that a young and beautiful woman could improve the next generation’s genes. She didn’t need to be too smart, just stay home and take care of the family.

But after marriage, Hu Tao was always suspicious, neglecting their two children, constantly monitoring his whereabouts.

If he didn’t reply to her messages within five minutes, she would bombard him with calls.

Sometimes she would even barge into his company, yelling indiscriminately.

Wang Liangshan was extremely exasperated. For the sake of their two children, he endured it all.

Even now, Hu Tao didn’t realize her predicament, continuing to speak nonsense.

At this moment, he wholeheartedly agreed with the old saying, “Marry a virtuous woman.”

Wang Liangshan was extremely angry, forcefully grabbing Hu Tao’s hand and pulling her up. “I’m warning you one last time. If you want to live, shut your mouth, otherwise I won’t bother with you.”

His eyes were fierce, and Hu Tao immediately cowered, covering her mouth and crying uncontrollably.

“Wuwuwu…”

His palm was wet with her tears, and Wang Liangshan’s heart softened.

He spoke to her kindly. “Hu Tao, we’ve been married for so many years, you have to believe me. I went to so much trouble to invite this Master. If you drive her away, our whole family will die.”

Hu Tao lowered her head, silent.

Wang Liangshan took her to the next room, then personally dragged Wang Qian in.

Li San stood aside, witnessing the whole thing.

Mr. Wang was ruthless, actually touching the strange fish scales with his bare hands. Why didn’t he wear gloves?

At this moment, he somewhat admired Mr. Wang.

Wang Liangshan warned the three of them, then turned to Li San. “Go get Master Lin.”

“Okay.” Li San went downstairs to find Lin Xi. “Master Lin, Mr. Wang asked you to come up.”

Lin Xi went upstairs, glanced inside, and immediately averted her gaze.

The scene was too shocking.

Three fish-scale monsters, one in each bathtub, constantly pouring water over themselves.

Wang Liangshan introduced, “The one in the middle is my son, Wang Hu.”

Lin Xi took a closer look at Wang Hu.

On his body, fish scales the size of fingernails constantly wriggled, as if they were alive.

His condition was clearly more serious than the others; he wouldn’t last three days.

Upon closer inspection, the color of the scales seemed different.

Some were dark brown, others pale yellow.

Lin Xi narrowed her eyes, carefully examining them.

Wang Hu’s back, Hu Tao’s chest, and Wang Qian’s head all had both colors of scales.

Wang Hu had the most, Hu Tao less, and Wang Qian the least.

Lin Xi said, “Everyone has two kinds of scales. Tell me, how did you offend the fish?”

The three of them still kept their heads down, scratching themselves and pouring water.

Wang Liangshan was frantic. “The Master is asking you a question, quickly speak.”

Wang Hu opened his mouth. “Dad, I’m so itchy, so uncomfortable.”

Wang Qian cried out, “Dad, I can’t remember anything. My whole-body itches so much.”

Wang Liangshan was extremely worried. “Master, is there any way to relieve their itching?”

Lin Xi threw out a talisman.

The talisman emitted a faint golden light, and Hu Tao, Wang Hu, and Wang Qian instantly felt less itchy.

Wang Hu was astonished. “Dad, it works! It really works!”

Wang Qian had grasped onto a lifeline, desperately trying to recall anything related to the fish scales.

She was still young; she didn’t want to die…

Lin Xi spoke. “This method is only temporarily effective. To completely solve the curse, we must find the person who cast it. You can tell me now.”

Wang Hu’s tone was extremely arrogant. “Tell you what? Quickly cure me! I order you to hurry up!”

Lin Xi was speechless.

Not a single normal person in this family; none of them understood a word she said.

Wang Liangshan took a deep breath. “The Master told you to speak, so speak.”

Wang Hu resisted. “Whether I speak or not is none of your business! She has to cure me!”

Wang Qian suddenly shouted, “I remember! Biluo Village! That fish! That fish must be the culprit!”

“Biluo Village…”

Wang Liangshan repeated the village name.

He suddenly slapped his head. “Last month, the four of us went on a trip to the south, and we stayed in Biluo Village for three days.”

“The scenery in that village is incredibly beautiful, and the villagers are very welcoming, but there’s one very strange thing: the temple worships a fish.”

“They don’t worship gods or Buddhas, only koi.”

Wang Qian, agitated, spoke incoherently. “Koi! That fish! I saw that fish enter our house, floating in the air, glaring fiercely at me!”

“It must be it! The koi! The fish harmed us!”

Hu Tao widened her eyes. “Impossible. You couldn’t have seen that fish.”

“Don’t you remember?”

“That fish is already dead.”

“We ate it!”
