Chapter 8: She Really Is My Fiancée
“How can you say sold?”
Fu Jianhua smiled, “The old Taoist saved your grandmother, so the Fu family had to repay him.”
Fu Jingyao’s brow twitched, “So, to save Grandma, you sold me to the old Taoist.”
“Sold? What a harsh word. It was just a reasonable transaction.”
Fu Jianhua smiled, “The old Taoist said you and his disciple are a perfect match, destined to be together. I’m helping you; otherwise, you’ll be a bachelor for life.”
The old Taoist had only one request: Fu Jingyao had to marry his disciple fifteen years later, and in return, he would step in to save people.
Fu Jianhua, upon hearing this, agreed without hesitation.
Fu Jingyao’s face darkened, “Marriage is not something to be taken lightly.”
Fu Jianhua tightly held Zhang Wenxiu’s hand, “I can’t just watch Wenxiu die.”
Zhang Wenxiu wiped the corners of her eyes, “This is all Grandma’s fault.”
Fu Jianhua shot her a look, “Blame it on me.”
Zhang Wenxiu: “No, blame me.”
Fu Jingyao interrupted their meaningless banter, “What happened back then is in the past; there’s no need to blame each other.”
His grandparents had grown up together and had a very good relationship.
Grandfather selling his marriage to save Grandma was entirely reasonable.
This had already happened; discussing it further was pointless.
However, when Fu Jingyao thought about marrying a stranger, especially a woman who bit him and ran away, his expression darkened.
Fu Jianhua chuckled awkwardly, “Jingyao, the Fu family is known for keeping promises. We can’t lose our credibility; we actually gained from this.”
Zhang Wenxiu chimed in, “Jingyao, that young girl is all alone in Di Jing; it’s not easy for her. You should quickly send someone to find her.”
Fu Jianhua nodded, “Jingyao, her master has done a favor for the Fu family. Go find your wife and bring her back. If she encounters any bad people, I’ll feel guilty towards the old Taoist…”
“It’s me who should feel guilty towards the old Taoist.”
“No! It’s me…”
The old man and old woman each said a line, and Fu Jingyao couldn’t get a word in.
He had no choice but to agree, “I’ll bring her back as soon as possible.”
…
As dawn broke.
The holy master, Lin Xi, held the heavy fifty thousand yuan, silently screaming.
Aaaah!!
I have money! Finally, I have money.
In her entire life, she was the richest at this moment.
Lin Xi looked up at the sky; there were no dark clouds or thunderstorms, no strikes to fear. The purple qi indeed felt extraordinary.
She secretly thought about whether biting Fu Jingyao again would make her even richer.
The first thing to do with her newfound wealth, Lin Xi walked into a mobile phone store, took out one thousand yuan, and placed it on the counter, “I want to buy a phone.”
The shopkeeper said, “Miss, this model doesn’t lag when playing games, and this one takes great photos. Would you like to choose another?”
Lin Xi shook her head, “I don’t play games or take photos; I just need to make calls.”
After getting the phone, she hurriedly donated half of her earnings; otherwise, the phone would explode on the spot.
In the past, she would buy at least ten phones, exploding nine and keeping one.
This time, her luck was much better; she wasn’t struck by lightning, nor did anything explode.
Lin Xi was super happy. She rented a place to stay, paying a deposit and three months’ rent, spending ten thousand yuan.
She counted the money left in her pocket; fifty thousand minus the rent left her with fourteen thousand.
Lin Xi sighed; a ten-thousand-yuan living expense could last three years on the mountain, but things in Di Jing were truly expensive.
However, she finally had her own home.
Lin Xi rotated her bracelet, “Everyone, come out and get some fresh air.”
Five colorful lights shot to the ground, transforming into five different little paper figures.
Xiao Jin with a pot cover hairstyle, Xiao Mu with wavy hair, Xiao Shui with a single ponytail, Xiao Huo with a frizzy hairstyle, and Xiao Tu with two buns—very easy to distinguish.
Xiao Jin commanded the others, “Xiao Mu, cook; Xiao Shui, mop the floor; Xiao Huo, wipe the table; Xiao Tu, help.”
The five little paper figures quickly sprang into action, and Lin Xi could just lie on the sofa and rest, not needing to worry about a thing.
She had cast spells, so the paper figures were immune to water and fire and wouldn’t be drowned or burned.
Xiao Mu made a fried rice dish, and Lin Xi picked up her chopsticks, “Let’s eat.”
Xiao Jin, Xiao Mu, Xiao Shui, and Xiao Huo skillfully held their bowls of rice.
The newly arrived Xiao Tu stood by, unsure, “Can this be eaten?”
Seeing her insistence, Ji Mingshan took out fifty thousand yuan in cash, “Master Lin, you are noble and high-minded. Our Ji family owes you a favor. If you ever need anything from the Ji family in the future, feel free to come to me.”
Lin Xi said lightly, “Let’s keep things separate. I’ve already received payment for sending Ji Heng home. If you feel indebted, just do more good deeds and donate the money to the poor.”
With that, she left the hospital.
Ji Mingshan and the others stared at the doorway.
The master was compassionate, and even her silhouette radiated a holy aura.
…
Shanshui Villa.
Fu Jingyao stood to the side while two elderly people sat on the sofa.
On the left was Grandfather Fu Jianhua, and on the right was Grandmother Zhang Wenxiu.
Fu Jingyao briefly explained what had happened tonight, omitting the part about being bitten.
After hearing everything, Fu Jianhua revealed a mysterious smile, “Jingyao, your fiancée has finally appeared.”
Fu Jingyao frowned, feeling that this matter was anything but simple; his grandfather’s attitude was quite unusual.
“Grandfather, what about this fiancée?”
“Well, this matter…”
Fu Jianhua rolled his eyes, “Jingyao, do you remember when your grandmother fell seriously ill and then recovered?”
Fu Jingyao certainly remembered; the Fu family had been in turmoil during that time.
His grandmother was hospitalized, and Grandfather was very sad, staying in the hospital with her while some people took advantage of the situation to suppress the Fu family.
One day, his grandmother suddenly got better, and the Fu family became increasingly powerful, rising to the top among the prominent families.
Fu Jianhua spoke meaningfully, “Jingyao, it was all thanks to that old Taoist and you.”
Fu Jingyao was confused, “I was still young then; how is this related to me…”
Connecting these two events, a thought flashed through his mind.
“You sold me!”

Xiao Jin, Xiao Mu, Xiao Shui, and Xiao Huo skillfully held their bowls of rice.
The newly arrived Xiao Tu stood by, unsure, “Can this be eaten?”
“I almost forgot about you.”
Lin Xi gathered spiritual energy at her fingertips and quickly drew an Eat Rice Talisman on Xiao Tu’s forehead.
A flash of golden light, and Xiao Tu suddenly smelled a fragrance; mimicking Xiao Jin and the others, he started eating.
Human food isn’t bad.
After eating the meal Xiao Mu made, Lin Xi rested for a while and planned to resume her old profession: fortune-telling, exorcism, and feng shui.
She took her five little paper figures out.
The antique street was bustling with people, and the hawkers’ cries echoed incessantly.
“Coins unearthed from the Western Zhou Dynasty, don’t miss out if you pass by!”
“Qinghua porcelain from the Kangxi era, not nine thousand nine hundred ninety-eight, not nine hundred ninety-eight, only ninety-eight! All ninety-eight!!”
Lin Xi looked around. At the end of the street, many fortune-tellers and physiognomists had set up stalls; setting up a stall here would be quite harmonious.
Walking further in, she stopped at an empty spot, took out yellow paper and a brush from her bag, and wrote several large characters.
One thousand yuan per reading, guaranteed satisfaction. Predicting past events first; no charge if inaccurate.
Lin Xi squatted by the roadside waiting for customers. With purple qi surrounding her, she wasn’t worried about a lack of business.
Local elderly people, seeing something unusual, gathered around.
“Hey, one thousand yuan per reading? Quite the confidence.”
“Master Qian next door only charges eight hundred.”
“The little girl wrote about predicting the past first; whether she has the ability will be known with a single try.”
“Who wants to try first?”
An old man stepped forward, “Little girl, take a look at me. If you’re accurate, I’ll give you a good start.”
Lin Xi scanned the old man, “Sunken Yue and Ri angles, you lost your father and mother at a young age. Narrow forehead, uneven hairline, you lived in poverty before the age of eighteen.”
“However, you married a good wife, and your luck turned around at age twenty-five. You received the favor of a benefactor and rose steadily through the ranks, retiring to enjoy bird watching and fishing every day.”
Old Man Li nodded, “Everyone in the neighborhood knows these things; this doesn’t count.”
Lin Xi said calmly, “You have a lingering regret in your heart.”
Old Man Li became interested, “Now, my family is happy, my children are filial, and I receive twenty thousand yuan in retirement benefits every month. What regrets could I have?”
Lin Xi said, “Observing your children’s palace, your left eye is full, but there’s a horizontal wrinkle under your right eye. You have three sons and one daughter, and your daughter has not been by your side since childhood.”
“Your daughter was abducted by human traffickers at the train station when she was young.”
As soon as these words came out, Old Man Li’s eyes filled with tears, “You’re right, little girl.”
Few people knew about this, and it had always been a burden on him and his wife.
That year, the train station was too crowded, and he and his daughter were separated by the crowd.
When he looked back, his daughter was gone.
Old Man Li had searched for thirty years, going to many places, but he never found his daughter.
Old Man Li believed Lin Xi; he hurriedly asked, “Little girl, no, Master, how is my daughter now?”
Lin Xi said, “Your daughter is still alive. Tomorrow, you and your wife should go to the market to buy vegetables and chat more; you’ll have a surprise.”
Old Man Li was overjoyed; without further ado, he took out all the money in his pocket, but it wasn’t enough for a thousand.
“Master, I don’t have that much cash on me.”
Lin Xi opened her QR code, “You can scan the code, thank you.”
“Haha, Master is so trendy.”
Old Man Li scanned one thousand yuan and hurried away.
Leaving behind a group of gossiping elderly people, their eyes shining with curiosity.
Tomorrow, they absolutely had to see if what Old Man Li said was true.
Retirement life was too boring; they had found a new pastime.
Soon, another woman squeezed in.
Lin Xi glanced at her physiognomy and was about to speak when the woman directly took out one thousand yuan, “Master, no need to predict the past; I believe you.”
Seeing that it was Wang Li, everyone started discussing.
“Wang Li, you’re here again to ask about your son’s marriage.”
“You’ve asked all the masters on this street; why are you so persistent?”
“Your son is still young; when he grows up, he’ll naturally find a girlfriend, get married, and have children.”
Wang Li glared at the onlookers, “What do you know? Get out of the way.”
She took out a photo of her son and showed it to Lin Xi, her heart filled with anxiety, “Master, look. When will my son get married? Where is his destined woman?”
Lin Xi looked carefully, her expression strange.
She said tactfully, “There’s no destined woman, but there is a destined man.”
