Chapter 11: Opening the Lucky Bag
This scene wasn’t uncommon in the countryside. When a child bled, they’d just grab a cobweb and use it as a bandage.
But that cobweb was just too dirty.
Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t stand it anymore, but Ding Xiujing didn’t seem to care.
“It’s just a child, what’s the big deal? It’ll be fine tomorrow.”
Well, if the mother wasn’t worried, what could she do?
Xu Jiaojiao forced herself to look away from the black leg.
She turned around and took her own towel, which was torn in half, and washed her hands and face.
When she got up, there was no one in the yard anymore.
The kitchen, however, was bustling with activity. Was it time for dinner?
In these times, eating was a fierce competition. If she was late, she might not even get any soup.
Thinking about this, Xu Jiaojiao didn’t dare to delay. She quickly hung up her towel.
She was about to go to the kitchen when she almost bumped into Qin Shuo, who was also hanging his towel.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
With no time to talk, Xu Jiaojiao sidestepped and walked away.
She was a true embodiment of someone who was only concerned with eating.
Qin Shuo retracted his gaze and looked at the torn towel.
After a moment’s hesitation, he hung his own towel up.
In the kitchen, Wang Fengmei was already serving the food.
As usual, the men got more, the women got less, and the children got the least.
In these times, most families divided food this way because they couldn’t afford enough to eat.
If you happened to have a biased parent, then you’d either be overfed or starved.
Wang Fengmei was a bit fierce outside, but no one could find fault with her food distribution.
“I want rice porridge, I don’t want sweet potatoes!” Suddenly, a little boy of about three years old cried out.
It was Liu Zhaodi’s youngest son, Yao Hu!
“Okay, okay, Mom will get you some.”
Liu Zhaodi had three daughters before she finally had a son. Naturally, he was her precious treasure.
She would do anything for him, even pick stars from the sky.
But the porridge on the table was already divided. Where could she get so much rice porridge?
Soon, Xu Jiaojiao found out.
She saw Liu Zhaodi take the bowls of her three daughters and scoop out the rice porridge, putting it into her son’s bowl.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
The three daughters looked at their porridge being taken away, but they didn’t dare to say a word.
Yao Hu, finally getting a bowl of porridge, was satisfied and stopped crying.
Qin Sheng didn’t even lift his eyelids. He just kept stuffing his face with food.
The others seemed to be used to it.
Xu Jiaojiao looked at the girls with tears in their eyes. The little bit of goodwill she had for Liu Zhaodi during the day had vanished.
Suppressing her discomfort, she lowered her head and silently ate her food.
She didn’t know if it was because the food wasn’t cooked well, but even though Xu Jiaojiao was very hungry, she couldn’t taste anything.
She felt like the food in her mouth had a bitter taste.
She simply stopped picking up more food and finished her bowl of rice, then left the table.
Back in her room, she took her clothes and bucket and went to take a bath.
It was still cold, and it was hard to see anything after seven o’clock.
With water boiling in the pot, Xu Jiaojiao filled her bucket and went to the shower room in the dark.
In these times, families had many children and the parents couldn’t take care of them all, so they didn’t bathe their children every day.
The more diligent children would wash themselves daily, while the lazy ones might go two or three days without washing.
Therefore, the shower room wasn’t too busy.
However, the shower room only had three walls and no roof.
The door was made of several pieces of wood, and it didn’t feel very secure.
Looking at this simple shower room, Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but frown.
But she had memories, and she knew this was already considered good in the village.
Some families didn’t even have a shower room, and they had to wash in the kitchen or in their rooms.
Without thinking further, she took off her clothes and prepared to wash quickly and go out.
But as soon as she splashed water on herself, she felt a cold wind blowing on her head. Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but shiver.
The temperature was only in the teens, and it was quite cold.
Xu Jiaojiao wanted to be quick, but she had been trained by the system, so her bathing movements were subconsciously graceful and couldn’t be rushed.
When she went out, it was already completely dark.
She walked towards her room in the dark.
However, since she was new to this place and still unfamiliar, Xu Jiaojiao walked clumsily.
Finally reaching her room, she breathed a sigh of relief.
But the next moment, her foot slipped, and she fell forward into the room!
(???′Д`?)? 彡┻━┻
She forgot that the room was lower than the outside!
She couldn’t stop herself and stumbled forward several steps.
Just when she thought she was going to faceplant, she bumped into a wall of flesh!
“Ouch!”
Xu Jiaojiao was bumped so hard that tears came to her eyes!
She thought her nose was broken!
“Were you raised on steel?”
In the pitch-black room, a woman’s angry voice came out, thick with nasal congestion.
But the human wall of flesh didn’t intend to pay any attention to her. He sidestepped and walked past her.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
What kind of temper was this?
With this personality, he wouldn’t be able to find a wife in the modern world, okay?
Here she was, a wife delivered to his doorstep, and he was still rejecting her like this.
Suddenly, Xu Jiaojiao remembered the strange question the man asked when she woke up.
Could he be reborn?
Did the original owner cheat on him in his previous life?
Otherwise, Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t imagine why he would be so cold towards her.
Unable to figure it out, Xu Jiaojiao threw the matter to the back of her mind.
She reached out with both hands and groped her way back to the bed.
As soon as she lay down, she suddenly thought of a serious problem.
Where would he sleep tonight?
They say that after three years of being a soldier, even a sow can be as beautiful as Diao Chan.
And even though she wasn’t Diao Chan, she was definitely better than a sow.
This man, full of youthful vigor, how could he resist?
Before she crossed over, Xu Jiaojiao had already prepared herself to “go for the physical, not the emotional.”
But now that it was happening, she still couldn’t convince herself.
Sleeping together without any feelings, how awkward would that be?
Xu Jiaojiao pondered strategies in her mind, planning to delay as long as possible.
She didn’t believe she couldn’t escape that thing.
As she was lost in thought, she suddenly heard the cute system voice.
“Jiaojiao, you haven’t opened your lucky bag yet~”
Oops!
She almost forgot about it!
Xu Jiaojiao quickly opened the system page and found the lucky bag.
Just as she was about to click on it, she suddenly thought of another problem.
“Where do I put the things I get?”
What if it was something beyond the times? There was nowhere to hide it here. The whole room was visible at a glance.
“It’s fine as long as you don’t take it out. Once you take it out, you can’t put it back in.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao finally felt relieved.
Without hesitation, she clicked on the lucky bag.
The next second, a blinding golden light erupted from the opening of the lucky bag.
The light got brighter and brighter…
It looked very high-end.
Xu Jiaojiao was instantly excited.
Staring at the lucky bag with her eyes wide open, she endured the light that almost blinded her.
After a while, a pleasant melody played, and to Xu Jiaojiao’s expectation –
The light slowly dissipated, revealing two… uh… eggs?!
Afraid that she had seen wrong, Xu Jiaojiao carefully examined them from all angles.
She discovered that they were indeed eggs!
They were still emitting a faint mist, clearly freshly cooked.
(???′Д`?)? 彡┻━┻
For an egg, you used such a fancy special effect. Isn’t this consumer fraud?
