Chapter 38: Why Feel Nervous?
Upon hearing those words, everyone couldn’t stay put. They dropped their work and rushed towards the source of the sound.
On the field ridge, Gu Qingbai held his foot, his fair face now pale.
“Quickly use cloth to bind his leg.” The speaker was an older man, clearly experienced.
Hearing this, a female educated youth offered her handkerchief.
A male educated youth took the handkerchief and, under the older man’s guidance, tied it firmly five centimeters above the wound on his lower leg.
The older man didn’t hesitate, directly instructing someone to flush the wound with water. He reached out, grabbed Gu Qingbai’s wound, and squeezed hard. Blood gushed out from the wound.
However, the amount of blood was not much.
The wound had even changed color, the situation was quite critical.
“This won’t do, the wound needs to be opened wider.”
Suddenly, a sweet, soft voice came from outside the crowd.
Everyone looked over, and it was none other than Xu Jiaojiao.
Remembering how she had saved a child last time, the originally suspicious gazes turned into anticipation.
“Xu Jiaojiao, come and have a look.”
“Yes, quickly take a look at him.”
Regardless of the situation, everyone pulled Xu Jiaojiao towards them.
The older man had already squeezed out no more blood. Hearing that this female comrade had a solution, he quickly stepped aside.
Xu Jiaojiao didn’t flinch, handing the medicinal herbs she had just picked to the older man.
She took out the small knife she had gotten from the lucky bag recently.
Holding the knife in one hand, she grabbed Gu Qingbai’s leg that had been bitten by the snake.
Gu Qingbai lowered his head and saw the porcelain-white face, and as she got closer, a faint fragrance wafted over.
The next moment, his leg felt a sharp pain.
Looking down, he saw two white hands squeezing the snakebite wound.
Her movements were calm and collected, an image he had never seen before. Gu Qingbai couldn’t help but be stunned.
As she worked, more blood flowed out after a while.
Seeing this, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
After a pot of water was poured, someone immediately handed over a new one.
Only after the squeezed-out blood returned to normal did Xu Jiaojiao finally relax.
The older man applied the crushed snake-biting herb to the wound.
“Have someone take you to the clinic for another check-up.”
Xu Jiaojiao finished speaking, but didn’t hear a response.
Looking up, she saw Gu Qingbai’s gaze was a bit strange.
Seeing her look over, Gu Qingbai quickly averted his gaze.
But the orchid-like scent on her body seemed to linger in his nose, unable to be dispelled.
Gu Qingbai realized that he had actually been lost in thought while looking at her.
Seeing that he was alright, Xu Jiaojiao didn’t stay any longer.
Just as she was about to stand up, she met another pair of dark eyes.
Xu Jiaojiao’s heart skipped a beat!
For some reason, she felt a little nervous.
But in a flash, Xu Jiaojiao reacted, why should she be nervous?
They were just a couple in name only.
In fact, they were not even as close as strangers.
Moreover, she was saving a life.
Thinking this, she didn’t look at the man, and went directly back to her field to work.
As soon as she returned to the field, before she even started working, the aunts on both sides started praising her.
“Jiaojiao, how are you so amazing?” One aunt said, admiration in her eyes.
“Her grandfather was a doctor, what’s so strange about it?” Another aunt’s attitude was much more calm.
This is something given by God, there’s no use envying it.
Hearing her say this, Aunt No. 1 shut her mouth in embarrassment.
There was no use envying her, Xu Jiaojiao was a high school student after all.
At noon, as soon as work ended, Xu Jiaojiao picked up her water bottle and left.
She was in a hurry, she still had to go up the mountain to collect herbs.
On the way back, she didn’t walk with Ding Xiujing.
But somehow, the person walking with her became Qin Shuo.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Thank you for the invitation, but I don’t really want to walk together.
It had been almost a month since the last time they went to the county together.
But Xu Jiaojiao still remembered how he had slapped her in the face.
Without stopping, she quickened her pace.
She looked like she didn’t want to walk with him.
The two walked one behind the other, heading towards the Qin family.
As soon as they got home, before they even entered the courtyard, they could smell the aroma of food from afar.
Xu Jiaojiao’s stomach started rumbling.
“Mom, what did you cook today? It smells so good.” As soon as she entered the courtyard, Xu Jiaojiao called out.
“I made fish soup, quickly wash your hands and eat.” As soon as she saw Xu Jiaojiao, Wang Fengmei smiled happily.
With three mischievous boys at home, Wang Fengmei had never enjoyed the blessings of a daughter.
Unexpectedly, she had become like a mother to her daughter-in-law.
Hearing her act cute with her, Wang Fengmei’s heart was filled with joy.
“You silly boy, what are you standing there for? After dinner, go and help Jiaojiao carry the herbs.”
Seeing her son just staring at his wife, not even washing his hands, Wang Fengmei scolded him.
Hearing this, Qin Shuo withdrew his gaze and nodded.
After a while, the others also returned home one after another.
When everyone was gathered, Wang Fengmei brought out the fish soup she had cooked.
The children were overjoyed.
If you were to ask who was the most popular in the Qin family now?
First would be the third aunt, and second would be the third uncle.
The third aunt would give them delicious food from time to time, and the third uncle would bring back meat from time to time.
They were originally a little afraid and didn’t dare to approach Qin Shuo, but now they would call him “third uncle” every time they saw him.
But Xu Jiaojiao, sitting beside Qin Shuo, felt that he was a bit strange today.
Normally, they wouldn’t even chat, let alone meet each other’s gaze.
But today, his gaze on her was more frequent than the combined time she had spent in this world.
For some reason, Xu Jiaojiao had a sense of danger.
She quietly shifted to the side.
After creating a safe distance, Xu Jiaojiao finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But as soon as she sat down, she felt the atmosphere become stagnant again.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
It was indeed right to stay away from him.
This man was too hard to deal with! He might even lower her favorability.
Xu Jiaojiao randomly ate a bowl of rice, then heard Erni beside her say, “Third aunt, I’ll go with you.”
“I want to go too.” Dani also sped up her eating.
In the end, when they went out, it was two adults with four children.
“That… I can do it myself, you don’t need to help me carry it.”
Looking at the natural cooling machine next to her, Xu Jiaojiao weakly persuaded.
But she didn’t know if he didn’t hear, or if he heard but pretended not to.
Qin Shuo took the lead and stepped forward.
And the children, as if they had received an order, followed the third uncle when he left.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
You guys are making the third aunt lose face!
But it didn’t matter what she thought, the children had already chirped and rushed towards the mountain.
Xu Jiaojiao could only quickly follow.
After the last harvest, the children would go up the mountain to search from time to time.
Hoping to find another nest of eggs.
The result was as expected.
It had been so long, they had never encountered a single egg.
Now they heard that the third uncle, who caught wild chickens, was going to go together, the children were all ecstatic.
Only Xu Jiaojiao, with a bitter face, followed behind the group listlessly.
Suddenly, Xu Jiaojiao saw a Dendrobium nobile in a clump of weeds.
Her eyes lit up instantly.
Just as she was about to go forward and pick it, suddenly, her waist tightened, and she was pulled back a few steps.
Then there was a “pop” sound, something was smashed to the ground.
