Chapter 50: I Have Hemostatic Medicine
Her soft legs were resting on his.
Qin Shuo, already tense, stiffened even more.
Beside him, the woman’s sweet scent wafted, his breath hitched.
It was all legal and above board.
Some thoughts in his heart were frantically eroding his sanity.
Qin Shuo’s hand, hanging at his side, twitched.
His prominent Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily.
Xu Jiaojiao had a dream. She dreamed she was back in that small rented room.
Lying on the bed that was less than 1.5 meters wide, she habitually hugged the plush rabbit on the bed.
Just as she was about to rub against it, she felt that the texture beneath her cheek was wrong. It wasn’t soft, but rather rough.
Not only that, it was also hot.
Xu Jiaojiao frowned and wanted to turn over in annoyance, but she found herself trapped!
She mumbled something incoherently and struggled to get away.
But she vaguely heard a muffled groan.
Hearing this sound, Xu Jiaojiao suddenly woke up.
Only then did she realize that what was trapping her was the arm that was across her waist.
“Let go!” Xu Jiaojiao was both embarrassed and angry.
But the next moment, the iron arms around her waist tightened.
She was completely enveloped in the hot embrace.
“Jiaojiao…”
The man’s rough breath sounded in her ear. That feeling of extreme danger made Xu Jiaojiao even more panicked.
She pressed her hand against his firm chest, trying to stop him from getting closer.
But the man seemed to be naturally strong. Her little bit of strength was simply no match for him.
The world spun around her, and Xu Jiaojiao was lifted and turned.
When she came to her senses, she was trapped under his tall frame.
“No!” The woman’s sweet voice was now filled with panic and helplessness.
Beneath her fingertips, her boneless waist writhed helplessly.
The faint fragrance on her body grew stronger.
Large beads of sweat rolled down Qin Shuo’s forehead, dripping onto her porcelain-white face.
The faint warmth of her scent mingled with his breath, and Qin Shuo’s Adam’s apple bobbed even more violently.
“Why?”
The man’s voice was low and husky.
The undercurrents of restraint in his voice made Xu Jiaojiao’s heart skip a beat.
“I’m sorry!” She still couldn’t bring herself to agree.
The system hadn’t given her any guarantee, and what right did she have to conceive a child, someone who was about to leave at any moment?
“I’m sorry!”
Hearing her choked sob, filled with both grievance and helplessness, Qin Shuo’s heart felt as if it had been pulled.
The suffocating feeling of rejection at that moment turned into heartache.
“Don’t cry…”
The pity in the man’s voice made Xu Jiaojiao even more aggrieved.
She was just an ordinary person, why did she have to endure all this?
Thinking about how she was like a puppet, controlled by the system, Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but feel a surge of sadness.
Her clothes were damp with tears, and the woman’s low sobs were filled with extreme grievance.
Qin Shuo had never experienced such heartache before. He awkwardly tried to comfort the person in his arms.
But she seemed to be oblivious, lost in her own sadness.
One was crying, the other was comforting.
It’s not clear how long it took, but Xu Jiaojiao fell asleep again.
But Qin Shuo couldn’t fall asleep anymore.
Outside, the wind and rain were still raging, and the small house felt like a tiny boat on the sea.
Listening to the even breathing in his arms, Qin Shuo’s heart was filled with a strange mix of emotions.
He paused, then lowered his head and kissed her forehead.
He held the soft woman tightly in his arms.
…
The next day, Xu Jiaojiao was woken up by the noise outside.
“The blind man’s house collapsed, go and help!”
Hearing this, she instantly woke up.
But when she opened her eyes, she felt that her eyes were swollen and stinging.
The events of the previous night flashed through her mind, and Xu Jiaojiao abruptly sat up in bed.
But the whole room was quiet. Where was Qin Shuo?
Xu Jiaojiao looked down and saw that her clothes were still intact.
Thinking about how the man had comforted her for most of the night, she didn’t know what to feel.
It was still drizzling outside, and she shouldn’t have to go to work today.
But thinking about what the person had just shouted, Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t stay put.
She quickly changed her clothes and opened the cabinet.
She took out several packets of medicinal powder from the bag inside and put them in her shoulder bag.
She grabbed the hat by the door, put it on, and went out.
“Jiaojiao, where are you going?”
At the kitchen door, Ding Xiujing saw her rushing out and called out.
“I’m going to see if I can help at the blind man’s house.”
She had wound medicine and some homemade bandages in her pocket.
“Wait, I’ll go with you.”
Ding Xiujing said, also picking up a hat and putting it on.
That’s how the people in the team were. Whenever something happened, most of the villagers would go to watch.
Especially something like a mudslide collapsing a house.
Xu Jiaojiao didn’t refuse and stood at the door waiting for her to come out.
“Where did all the men in the family go?” Xu Jiaojiao asked casually.
“You woke up late and didn’t know. Many houses in the team collapsed last night. The captain organized people to go rescue, and all the men went.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao didn’t hesitate, and her pace quickened.
“Jiaojiao, slow down!”
Ding Xiujing was really impressed.
It was raining, and the muddy ground was slippery. How did she manage to walk so fast?
“I have to go first, you follow behind.”
Xu Jiaojiao said, but her feet didn’t slow down.
Along the way, she met people from the team, all rushing towards the blind man’s house.
The blind man had lost one eye when the Japanese soldiers entered the village.
The old and young in the village were all killed, he was lucky to only lose one eye.
In the end, he didn’t know how he ended up living in the Red Flag Brigade.
Despite being blind in one eye, he was very strong.
He was also willing to help people.
Now, hearing that his house had collapsed, everyone in the team rushed to help.
The weather was dark and gloomy, and the rain was still coming down, it didn’t look like it would stop anytime soon.
Xu Jiaojiao didn’t dare to delay, and she worked hard to get to his house.
His house was right at the head of the village, while the Qin family was at the end of the village, quite a distance apart.
She didn’t know how long she had been walking, but from afar, she saw a large patch of mud that had been washed down.
A group of people were surrounding a collapsed house.
Qin Shuo was right there!
He was working hard to move things out.
There were also several other people inside, clearing mud and rocks.
The person directing the rescue was the captain, Liu Guoqing.
The rescue work was in full swing.
Xu Jiaojiao was carrying her shoulder bag, and as she approached, she heard someone inside shout excitedly.
“We found him, he’s here!”
“Get a few more people to help.”
The person who showed his head was the blind man. His face was pale, and his head and body were covered in mud.
He kept moaning.
Everyone carefully moved the things that were pressing on him.
When they finally rescued him from the rubble, another ten minutes had passed.
“Be careful, slowly.”
“Carry him here!”
“No, he’s still bleeding, we need to get him to the commune health center quickly.”
But after saying this, everyone fell silent.
The commune health center was so far away from the brigade, and it was all mountain roads, and it was raining. By the time they got there, it would be too late.
Just as everyone was silent, Qin Shuo walked over.
“I’ll stop the bleeding.”
Hearing this, everyone quickly made way for him.
Qin Shuo took off his clothes, which he had just taken off, and pressed them tightly against the blind man’s wound.
Seeing how professional he was, the others felt relieved and continued to move things to rescue people.
“I have hemostatic medicine!”
Xu Jiaojiao finally squeezed in.
