Chapter 53: You Did It On Purpose
It didn’t take long for everyone to prepare to go back on the tractor.
Blind Man Fa and Liu Xiaoyu stayed at the clinic.
There was nowhere for them to go home to, so they could only wait for the captain’s arrangements.
As the tractor started, dark clouds suddenly gathered in the sky.
Xu Jiaojiao was about to climb onto the back of the truck when someone grabbed her hand.
The familiar rough feeling on her wrist, she knew who it was without turning around.
“Sit in front.”
The man said, his voice filled with an undeniable domineering tone.
Hearing this low, suppressed voice, Xu Jiaojiao’s heart skipped a beat.
She wanted to refuse, but his grip was tight, and she couldn’t break free.
The guys on the truck were all wearing hats and raincoats.
Seeing the two of them in a stalemate, they couldn’t help but cast curious glances.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Under the scrutiny of everyone’s gossip, her scalp tingled, and she finally walked to the front of the tractor.
The driver’s seat was a long, springy seat.
It could accommodate three people.
There was also an iron canopy above, which could shield them from the rain.
As soon as Xu Jiaojiao got in, she sat down by the side.
Qin Shuo glanced at the woman who was almost pressed against the railing, his brows furrowed into a knot.
“Move over a little.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao shook her head, not daring to look at his eyes.
But even without looking up, she could feel the man’s dark gaze.
She didn’t move, and Qin Shuo didn’t drive either. He just stared at her, as if they were competing to see who had more patience.
The sky was dark and gloomy, and the dark clouds were about to engulf them.
Xu Jiaojiao hesitated for a moment, then finally moved towards the middle.
As soon as she settled down, the man got in the car too.
The space, which had been relatively spacious, somehow became cramped.
Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but regret it.
Just as she was about to move back to her previous position, she heard him say, “Hold on.”
At his words, Xu Jiaojiao reflexively grabbed the railing.
As soon as she got a grip, the tractor started moving.
It was her first time sitting in the front, and she was a little scared. She held on tight and didn’t dare to move.
The tractor “da-da-da” along the road, and soon, the rain began to fall heavily.
The tractor was open on all sides, and Xu Jiaojiao was sitting in the front, getting splashed by the rain that drifted in from the side.
The feeling of the rain on her body was uncomfortable.
But what was even more uncomfortable was that the smoke in front was so thick that she couldn’t see clearly.
Thinking about the slope beside her, she felt like her whole body was frozen, stiff.
The car turned and twisted, going uphill for a while, then downhill again. The mountain road was wet and slippery, looking incredibly dangerous.
Qin Shuo held the steering wheel firmly, as if driving like this was as easy as drinking water for him.
The car shook and swayed, rocking from side to side.
Xu Jiaojiao struggled to keep herself steady, avoiding contact with the man beside her.
But before she could breathe a sigh of relief.
There was a sharp turn ahead, and Xu Jiaojiao bumped into Qin Shuo uncontrollably.
The hard, muscular feel of his body sent a blush to her cheeks.
Just as she was about to grab the handle and get away from him, she heard the man’s low voice.
“Sit properly!”
As soon as he spoke, Xu Jiaojiao felt the car tilt even more.
And she was pressed against him completely.
With the shaking of the car, the unavoidable friction made Xu Jiaojiao feel ashamed and angry.
“You did it on purpose!”
The woman’s soft body pressed against him, and her voice, filled with both shame and anger, reached his ears.
Qin Shuo’s whole body was tense.
“The road is washed out.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao looked ahead and saw that the road had been washed out, creating a ditch.
The car could only drive partly in the ditch and partly on the road.
The whole car was tilted at a sharp angle.
Just as she was about to move to the higher side against gravity, the car entered a flat section of road.
Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
The next section of road didn’t have any large slopes.
But there were still many potholes.
Xu Jiaojiao still inevitably bumped into him.
Finally, they returned to the brigade, and as soon as the car stopped, she jumped out.
After the previous experience, this time she got out of the car steadily.
Without looking back, she ran away.
Seeing the figure that was eager to leave, Qin Shuo felt a dull ache in his heart.
The rain was still falling, constantly hitting his body, but Xu Jiaojiao seemed to be oblivious.
At first, she could still deceive herself, thinking that this world was fake, and that she was just playing a realistic holographic game.
But seeing the seriousness in the man’s eyes, she was still afraid.
Thinking of the man who was trying his best to restrain himself, clumsy and helpless in comforting her.
For the first time, Xu Jiaojiao felt how shameful it was to conquer someone like this and then run away irresponsibly.
What was wrong with him? Why did he have to suffer this kind of trickery from her?
Her heart felt like it was stuffed with cotton, making her feel stuffy and unable to breathe.
Her whole body felt like a wandering spirit, drifting in the rain.
She didn’t even know when the tall figure behind her caught up.
When the rain hitting her from the side was blocked, Xu Jiaojiao finally came to her senses.
She looked up and met those eyes filled with worry.
Xu Jiaojiao felt a sting in her eyes again.
Not daring to look any longer, she averted her gaze.
But the red mark still caught Qin Shuo’s eye.
His mind flashed back to the night before, when she was crying in extreme grievance.
His fingertips curled slightly, and his brows furrowed involuntarily.
In the end, he didn’t say anything. He just stood silently beside her, shielding her from the constant rain.
Finally, they reached home, both of them soaked to the bone.
“Why didn’t you take shelter from the rain?” Wang Fengmei couldn’t help but scold them when she saw the two drenched chickens.
“Mom, I’m hungry. I’m rushing back to eat.”
Xu Jiaojiao joked, but there was a hint of forcedness in her smile.
Wang Fengmei didn’t notice, just told her to hurry up and take a shower and change clothes.
“Okay, Mom.”
She kept calling her “Mom” over and over again, making Wang Fengmei’s heart bloom with joy.
But Xu Jiaojiao felt even more uncomfortable.
Without looking back, she turned and walked towards the house.
For some reason, Qin Shuo didn’t follow her in.
Xu Jiaojiao was relieved.
She hurriedly gathered a few clothes and took a bucket to fetch cold water from the water tank.
It was summer, and no one boiled water for bathing.
Xu Jiaojiao had been washing in cold water for a while now and was used to it.
But as she filled the bucket halfway, someone blocked her.
“Add some hot water.”
Qin Shuo said, pouring the boiling water from the kettle into the bucket.
He moved so fast that Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t refuse.
After pouring the water, the man went to fetch his own bucket, and Xu Jiaojiao stepped forward to grab her own bucket.
But he avoided her.
He was so domineering, he picked up the bucket and walked towards the house.
Seeing that she didn’t follow, he turned his head to look.
The man’s actions were natural and effortless, as if she was really his wife.
“Jiaojiao, why don’t you go take a shower yet? Don’t catch a cold.”
Wang Fengmei urged from the kitchen door.
“Oh, okay.”
Responding, Xu Jiaojiao followed Qin Shuo into the house stiffly.
