Chapter 54: Why Didn’t You Accept the Mission?
The shower room had no roof, and it was still raining outside, so they could only wash inside the house.
In the past, they didn’t have a shower room, so everyone would wash themselves in the house.
There was still a drainage ditch in the corner of the house.
As soon as Xu Jiaojiao walked into the house, she ran into Qin Shuo, who was about to go out.
Stopping in her tracks, she said awkwardly, “Thank, thank you.”
Qin Shuo didn’t say anything, nor did he move aside, just blocking her path.
His unclear gaze made Xu Jiaojiao’s heart skip a beat.
The memory of the man’s iron arms trapping her last night flashed through her mind.
He had easily rendered her helpless.
For a moment, she couldn’t stay there.
Qin Shuo’s brow furrowed slightly as he looked at the woman who seemed ready to run away at any moment.
Her unfamiliar expression was as if the person who had held the peach and asked him to taste it yesterday wasn’t her.
After a pause, Qin Shuo withdrew his gaze and walked out sideways.
Hearing the sound of the door closing, Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
She hurried over to bolt the door.
It was still raining outside, but it had become much lighter.
The basins and buckets that had collected rainwater had been emptied and were placed back inside the house to collect more.
Looking at the damp room, Xu Jiaojiao frowned.
But she wasn’t in the mood to worry about it now.
She took a quick shower and went out with the bucket.
As soon as she reached the yard, she saw the tall man on the roof of the opposite house.
He was holding a tile in his hand, apparently repairing the roof.
Xu Jiaojiao looked at his left leg curiously.
What kind of injury was it? How could he do all sorts of work, seemingly unaffected?
Could it really heal?
“Jiaojiao, come and help Lao San hold the ladder,” Wang Fengmei said as soon as she saw her come out.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Caught red-handed, she couldn’t refuse.
She could only grit her teeth and walk over.
As soon as she took over, Wang Fengmei turned around and went about her business.
Leaving Xu Jiaojiao alone, she held the ladder absentmindedly.
After an unknown amount of time, she felt the ladder shake.
Xu Jiaojiao looked up.
She saw a pair of long legs climbing down the ladder.
Coming back to her senses, she steadied the ladder.
When there were only three steps left, Xu Jiaojiao let go of the ladder.
Just as she was about to leave, she heard the man’s deep voice.
“There’s more, it’s not finished.”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Turning around again, she was about to grab the ladder when she met the man’s chiseled abs.
Unexpectedly, he was still on the ladder. Unprepared, Xu Jiaojiao was completely stunned!
The muscles in front of her weren’t like the kind of bread-like muscles that were trained in later generations.
Instead, they were filled with a sense of hidden power.
When not exerting force, the lines were smooth. When he exerted force, the tendons intertwined.
Xu Jiaojiao’s heart suddenly beat faster.
Seeing her blushing and staring at him in a daze, Qin Shuo’s mood, which had been blocked for an afternoon, suddenly improved.
“Wife.”
“Huh?”
Xu Jiaojiao, lost in thought, responded reflexively. When she realized what he had called her, she almost jumped up!
And Qin Shuo, whose face had been cold and hard, finally softened.
“Go fix our house?”
Hearing the hint of joy in the man’s voice, Xu Jiaojiao’s face turned even redder.
But a moment later, it became pale.
Not daring to look at those scorching eyes, Xu Jiaojiao turned and walked towards her room.
Soon, Qin Shuo also came over carrying the ladder.
He was also holding the army green vest he had just taken off.
He placed the ladder against the wall and hung the vest on the ladder.
Qin Shuo held the ladder and climbed up.
Xu Jiaojiao hurried forward to hold the ladder.
Only this time, she didn’t dare to look around, her eyes only focused on the mud wall in front of her.
But looking at the occasional dripping eaves, she became a little nervous.
Were the bricks and tiles on top strong enough?
The rain had just stopped, would it be slippery?
Thinking about it anxiously, her eyes involuntarily looked towards the roof.
She saw him walking around on the roof.
Xu Jiaojiao’s heart immediately jumped up, her gaze fixed on the man’s feet.
She was afraid he would lose his footing and fall.
Qin Shuo could sense the anxious gaze from below the ladder.
Realizing that she didn’t have no feelings for him, his heart, which had been tied in knots, relaxed.
As soon as the roof was repaired, a call for dinner came from the kitchen.
The yard, which had been empty just now, soon became lively.
Adults and children rushed out of the house.
Qin Sheng and Qin Chao were not there, they had gone to reinforce the roof of the team’s warehouse.
Wang Fengmei had already set aside their meals.
The rest were distributed one by one.
Xu Jiaojiao picked up her chopsticks and was about to pick up some food when she heard that formal mechanical voice in her mind.
“Ding! Daily task. Please pick up food for Qin Shuo in front of at least three people.”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Lowering her eyes, Xu Jiaojiao silently ate her meal.
She didn’t pay any attention to the system’s voice.
Let alone accepting the mission.
It was as if she didn’t exist.
“Jiaojiao? Why didn’t you accept the mission?” That milky voice sounded again in her mind.
Xu Jiaojiao still didn’t speak, she just silently ate her food.
Perhaps she was in a bad mood, she didn’t even pick up any food.
She looked like she was going to eat quickly and leave.
Not receiving a response and unable to sense the host, Feifei panicked.
Just as she was about to try calling the host again, she suddenly felt a strong emotion.
As she was about to distinguish it, it became nothingness again.
Feifei felt that she must have malfunctioned and hurriedly went back to get someone to check her.
Xu Jiaojiao, who had finished half a bowl of porridge, had just put down her bowl when a piece of fish was placed in it.
The big hand that had picked up the fish for her withdrew calmly as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
But the others at the table obviously didn’t think so.
Ding Xiujing almost popped her eyeballs out.
She looked at Xu Jiaojiao, who was uncomfortable, and then at Qin Shuo, who was calm and composed.
She felt like the sky was going to rain red!
Is this still the third brother who was freezing to death?
Wang Fengmei, on the other hand, was overjoyed.
As an experienced person, she could see the unspoken love between the two.
Thinking that these two were finally together, she felt inexplicably happy.
On the other side, Liu Zhaodi’s face was very ugly.
Of the three men in her family, originally only Qin Laoer would pamper his wife.
And Xu Jiaojiao was like her, not favored by men.
But now even Xu Jiaojiao had someone who loved her, how could she feel good about it?
Xu Jiaojiao, who was being watched by everyone, also felt a mix of emotions.
The fish in her bowl was white and tender, and it looked delicious.
Xu Jiaojiao’s chopsticks hovered over the fish, but she didn’t put it down for a long time.
Until Wang Fengmei looked at her with a puzzled expression.
She finally picked up the fish and put it in her mouth.
It was supposed to be tender and fragrant, but Xu Jiaojiao tasted a bitter taste.
