Chapter 10: The Power of Food
Dinner at the Qin family’s house was incredibly lavish tonight.
Xu Sangluo had cooked a large pot of bone marrow and radish soup.
The butcher was very honest, even the bone marrow had a generous amount of meat attached.
The bones were cut into two pieces, with crystal clear bone marrow solidified inside.
The bone broth was milky white, with a layer of light golden oil floating on top.
It didn’t need much seasoning, just a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of scallions, and it was incredibly rich and flavorful.
In addition, there was scallion stir-fried pig blood and pork belly stir-fried with green beans.
The pig blood was first pan-fried and then stir-fried, the exterior was chewy with a hint of crispness, but the inside was incredibly tender.
Combined with the spicy aroma of scallions, it was refreshing and delicious, with no fishy smell at all.
The pork belly was sliced and pan-fried to render out the fat, then garlic and onions were added and stir-fried until fragrant.
The green beans were blanched in hot water first, then drained and added to the pan to stir-fry.
This ensured that the green beans were cooked through but not burnt, they were crunchy and had a salty aroma from the pork belly, making it impossible to put down the chopsticks.
Finally, a pot of pork bones, pork belly, and pork offal was braised.
Xu Sangluo didn’t use too many spices.
She simply used scallions, ginger, and garlic to remove the odor before stewing, and finally added soy sauce and salt.
There weren’t too many complex flavors, instead, it highlighted the natural aroma of the pork.
It was incredibly delicious with rice.
The children were still making faces when they were dealing with the pork offal.
Now, they were eating the soft and chewy intestines, and they couldn’t stop their mouths.
They hadn’t even swallowed the food in their mouths, and their chopsticks were already going back for more.
“Mmm, it’s so delicious, Sister Sangluo, you’re so amazing. You’re so good at studying, and you’re so good at cooking.”
Qin Zhifeng’s mouth was stuffed full, his eyes were shining brightly, and there were rice grains on his face.
The others also nodded while eating their rice.
As for why they didn’t respond?
Because they were too busy eating, their mouths were full, they couldn’t even speak.
Xu Sangluo couldn’t help but smile.
Seeing others enjoy the food she made was also a kind of enjoyment.
The Qin family was enjoying it, but the people outside were having a hard time.
The overpowering aroma wafted out, making passersby stop and sniff the rich fragrance in the air.
They couldn’t move their feet.
But they didn’t have the nerve to ask for food, they could only awkwardly stand…
Fortunately, she wasn’t the only one attracted by the aroma, especially a group of children who were making a ruckus.
They couldn’t help but guess what the Qin family was eating tonight, why it smelled so good.
Within an hour of Xu Sangluo’s return, her words had spread.
The news that Da Qin’s wife was actually from the city, and that her family was wealthy and influential, quickly became common knowledge.
The most eye-catching thing was the exaggerated descriptions of the aunties about how much good stuff she brought back from her family.
At first, some people didn’t believe it, but then they were slapped in the face by the waves of meaty aroma wafting out of the courtyard.
What kind of family was the Qin family? They probably wouldn’t even get a taste of oil during the holidays, let alone eat meat.
Such a strong meaty aroma, how much meat must have been stewed.
Then, those who had mocked the Qin family before started to envy them.
Whether Xu Sangluo was actually from the city or not.
The things were real.
Of course, there were those who envied, and naturally, there were those who were jealous.
They said sourly that Da Qin, a man, had to rely on his wife to mooch off her family.
But they only dared to say these things in private.
No matter what was going on outside, anyway, the Qin family was having a feast today.
No, for the children, they had never had such a treat during the holidays.
They thought the dumplings in the morning were already a rare delicacy they had never tasted before.
Unexpectedly, there was such a bombshell in the evening.
It was simply too good to be true.
Especially little Qin Yan, he was holding a large bone marrow and gnawing on it, his face was oily, and he was so happy that his eyes were narrowed, he was about to burst into bubbles.
Inside the house, Qin’s mother was leaning against the headboard, slowly sipping the hot soup, listening to the noise outside, she couldn’t help but smile, but her eyes were a little moist.
Xu Sangluo brought Qin’s mother’s dinner.
She also solemnly apologized to Qin’s mother and explained about staying there.
Qin Zhiyu had already chatted with her about Xu Sangluo’s situation.
After learning the truth, Qin’s mother called her eldest son in and scolded him.
She said he shouldn’t have kept it a secret.
If she had known that this child had suffered so much, she wouldn’t have given her the cold shoulder, and she wouldn’t have criticized her.
Now that she thought about it, it was like rubbing salt on a wound, how sad she must have been.
Qin Zhiyi, who had been scolded for the first time since he grew up, could only admit his mistake helplessly.
Although he only learned about many things today.
He didn’t say anything before because whether it was being kidnapped or being kicked out of the house, it was a shameful thing. Saying it would not only damage her reputation but also easily lead to misunderstandings.
It was better for people to think that she was forced by him than to randomly guess that she was kidnapped.
He just didn’t expect that there were so many things hidden behind it.
Actually, after hearing her story, Qin Zhiyi was also very impressed and admired her character.
Ordinary people probably wouldn’t be able to get over it in such a short time.
Dinner ended in a happy and harmonious atmosphere.
Qin Zhishu and Qin Zhifeng quickly took over the kitchen work.
Qin Zhiyu went to take care of Qin’s mother’s washing.
Qin Zhiyi was responsible for bathing his son.
Xu Sangluo, who had nothing to do, went back to her room first.
Although she also wanted to take care of Qin’s mother.
But she was just a tenant in the Qin family, if she acted too much, it would inevitably arouse suspicion and misunderstanding.
She simply took out her suitcase and started to organize her things, and at the same time, she counted her gains today.
She seemed to have bought a lot of things today, but she actually only spent less than forty yuan.
So she still had over nineteen hundred yuan left, which was considered a huge fortune in this era.
This money was enough to make Liu Xiuhui feel bad for a while, and make them fight.
After all, Xie Feng was a complete egoist.
He could be a smiling tiger as long as his interests weren’t harmed.
Once his interests were touched, he would become a man-eating tiger who would devour anyone.
Xu Sangluo had always been reluctant to mention this person, and even more reluctant to think about him, because he was truly disgusting.
Liu Xiuhui was just greedy, but Xie Feng was evil to the core.
Xie Feng was a typical phoenix man.
He wandered alone to Guangcheng, and was unexpectedly rescued by Xu Xiangyu, but he had evil intentions.
Xu Xiangyu had lost her mother since she was young, and she was pampered by her father, she could be considered a sheltered lady who didn’t know much about the world.
Xie Feng just used some tricks and successfully tricked her into marrying him, and he almost caused Xu Xiangyu and her father to turn against each other.
Although Xu’s father looked down on Xie Feng, he had no choice but to accept him because his daughter was determined to marry him.
Xie Feng successfully married into the Xu family.
At first, he did indeed pamper and love Xu Xiangyu.
It wasn’t until the turmoil began that he revealed his true colors.
