Chapter 30: Big Sale
“Screech!”
Chen Tao slammed on the brakes, stopping the car abruptly. He looked at Xu Sangluo with a mixture of surprise and excitement.
Xu Sangluo also stopped and turned to look at him.
Chen Tao moved his legs forward, excitedly asking, “You really have connections? How much can you get? Is it convenient to transport? And…”
Xu Sangluo quickly raised her hand to interrupt him.
“Don’t get excited. Let’s talk as we walk.”
Chen Tao took a deep breath, wiped his face, nodded, and continued to pedal.
Xu Sangluo said, “I have a friend who works at a green vegetable and fruit planting base in the city. Internal staff have a certain amount of purchasing power, and there are many varieties. The vegetables are all new varieties, many of which are imported from abroad. They are currently only supplied to special customers. I can ask them to transport them here, but we’ll have to go to the city to pick them up.”
“That’s not a problem!” Hearing the words “special supply,” Chen Tao was even more surprised and excited.
He didn’t expect to be able to get special supply vegetables.
But his reason hadn’t completely left him.
“What’s the price?”
Special supply products were not cheap, especially since they were using someone else’s quota and transporting them from so far away. It definitely wouldn’t be cheap.
If it was too expensive…
Xu Sangluo smiled, “It will probably be about twice as expensive as the vegetables in the market, so I suggest you sell them directly in the city.”
Chen Tao’s eyes lit up again. He nodded eagerly, “That’s a good idea. We can rent a store first…”
The two of them chatted along the way, forgetting about time.
When they arrived in the county, Chen Tao was still regretting that the road was so short.
He had so many questions to ask.
Xu Sangluo laughed, “We can’t talk about this all at once. Let’s find some time to discuss the details when we get back.”
She also needed to think about how to get the things out.
After all, even taking the bus to the city would take more than an hour, and she needed to find an excuse.
They left early, and when they arrived in the county, it was rush hour.
Early rush hour in the early 1980s
Xu Sangluo now had experience.
She directly pulled the car to a crowded intersection, then picked up the loudspeaker and started shouting.
She had changed her look today, even her clothes.
She wore a blue and white fabric headband with three delicate fabric flowers of different sizes on the side.
The centers of the fabric flowers were sewn with a few sequins and golden crystal beads, and there were a few small beads hanging down around them.
They shimmered with a pale golden light in the sun, making them very eye-catching against her black hair.
There were ribbons hanging down from both sides of the headband.
So she braided two fluffy braids on both sides, tying them with delicate bows at the ends.
She wore a white polyester shirt today, but the collar had been altered.
It was a lace-trimmed, semi-hollowed knitted lotus flower collar. There were also a few small golden beads sewn symmetrically on both sides of the collar, echoing the yellow crystal on her head.
She wore a beige sleeveless V-neck sweater over it.
For convenience and warmth, she was still wearing long pants today.
But she was wearing jeans.
She had a good relationship with some of the female workers at the cotton mill when she was selling hair ties.
She learned that the factory was producing a small amount of denim.
She asked them to help her get a few yards and bought them at a high price.
The pair she was wearing now was specially made in the most popular flared style of the 1980s.
But it wasn’t as exaggerated as it was back then.
But these flared jeans made her legs look longer and made her look taller.
Her outfit was both refreshing and stylish. As soon as she appeared, many people couldn’t help but turn their heads to take a look.
Chen Tao couldn’t help but wonder if his brother had asked him to come over because he was afraid she would be kidnapped.
He didn’t know what his big brother, who was as hard as a rock, thought of her.
What a mind he had.
He had only known that Xu Sangluo was beautiful and intelligent.
After meeting her today, he realized that she had more than just those qualities.
Such a girl, not to mention in Luoxi Brigade, would surely attract many suitors in the county.
It was fine for now that she was living at the Qin family as Qin Zhiyi’s wife.
But as time went on and she met more people, it would be easy for her to slip up.
Once people knew their true relationship, the Qin family’s doorstep would be trampled flat.
He thought that Old Qin was so attentive to her, he must have some feelings for her.
But with such a beautiful, kind, and capable girl around, he thought that unless Old Qin was truly made of stone, it would be hard for him not to be moved.
If it weren’t for the fact that a friend’s wife is off-limits…
Cough, he digressed.
Chen Tao steadied himself and helped shout loudly.
They set up their stall directly in the cargo bed of the tricycle.
The accessories were neatly arranged.
A few curious people came over to take a look.
Then they were attracted by the various new hair accessories in the car and couldn’t help but ask the price.
Xu Sangluo answered all kinds of questions fluently, occasionally interjecting some sales pitches that made people feel tempted but not repulsed.
Soon, the first sale came, followed by the second and third.
People have a herd mentality. Seeing a group of people gathered here, they would come over to take a look.
Then more and more people came.
Even though everyone went to work later, the excitement attracted many residents who came out to buy things or go shopping.
There was a simple saying in that era:
Good things don’t fear the market.
This was a testament to that saying.
As long as the things were good enough, they wouldn’t have trouble selling.
From the moment they opened for business in the morning, they hadn’t stopped.
It wasn’t even noon yet, and the over 500 pieces had all been sold.
This was beyond her expectations.
It showed that there was still a big difference between the county and the town.
At least the people here rarely haggled over the price.
No one even thought her things were expensive. Some people were even surprised that they were so cheap.
Chen Tao had only heard that Xu Sangluo’s hair accessories sold well.
But today, he was truly amazed.
Especially since he was helping to collect and give change.
The bills were handed over like ordinary paper.
Since they were selling in the county, Xu Sangluo had raised the prices slightly.
Of course, not too high.
For example, the headbands, which used to sell for 1.2 yuan, were now priced at 1.5 yuan.
But it was a case of high volume and low profit.
Of the over 500 pieces, the most expensive one was 2 yuan, which was the one she was wearing.
The cheapest one was 50 cents, which was the most common small hair clip.
Now that they were all sold out, she estimated that they had earned about 300 yuan.
Chen Tao was a bit dumbfounded.
Was money that easy to make?
Their fields and orchard, each harvest, would only earn them three or four hundred yuan at most.
And that was after selling at least 70% of the produce.
But she had earned their income from half a year of hard work in the fields just by setting up a stall for half a day.
Xu Sangluo smiled, “It seems like we’re lucky today. Come on, Brother Chen, I’ll treat you to dinner at the state-owned restaurant.”
Chen Tao helped her pack up her things without being polite, “Okay, I’m in for a treat today.”
They had left early in the morning and had been busy all morning. They were indeed hungry.
There was a Dongfeng Restaurant nearby.
It wasn’t mealtime yet, so there weren’t many people.
Xu Sangluo asked Chen Tao to find a seat first.
She went to the counter to order.
