Chapter 48: Writing to Xu’s Grandfather
Xu Sangluo asked Qin Zhiyi to try and invite Liu Boss when he returned the tractor.
If he didn’t want to come, she would find time to make some food and send it over.
Qin Zhiyi nodded and drove away with the tractor.
Chen Tao, Qin Mama, and little Qin Yan stayed behind.
Xu Sangluo rode her tricycle to buy groceries.
She came up with several excuses to get out alone.
Because she needed to find a chance to take vegetables from her space.
She first went to the small market and bought some meat, then secretly grabbed two hens from the farm.
The mountain where the farm raised poultry had many chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, cows, sheep.
These livestock ate well, slept well, and reproduced very well.
And she didn’t need to take care of them much, they were almost wild.
There were already quite a few, and she was afraid that in another year or two, the mountain wouldn’t be able to hold them all.
The two hens were the kind that were very expensive in the future, free-range chickens, the Sanhuang breed, each weighing about four pounds.
Then she took a lot of radishes, cabbages, tomatoes, winter melons, string beans, and sweet potatoes.
When she got back, she found a strange voice laughing and talking in the house.
Qin Zhiyi and Chen Tao heard the noise and hurried out to help.
For convenience, Xu Sangluo took out a lot this time, filling a whole cart with bamboo baskets, all kinds of vegetables and meat.
Liu Boss also ran out, and when he saw the baskets of excellent-looking vegetables being lifted down, his eyes lit up.
Liu Boss was a gourmand, and he naturally knew a lot about ingredients.
He could tell the quality of ingredients at a glance.
He couldn’t help but pick up a bright red, fist-sized tomato and exclaimed in amazement.
“You must be Xu Comrade, where did you buy these vegetables? They look so good, they must taste good too.”
Xu Sangluo looked up and saw a chubby middle-aged man, smiling like the Maitreya Buddha, and guessed that he must be Liu Boss, as Qin Zhiyi had said.
She had made him a batch of buns before, and he had wanted to order more several times.
But Xu Sangluo was too busy and refused.
She didn’t expect Liu Boss to be so sharp-eyed, he was indeed a gourmand.
She smiled and said, “I just bought them from roadside stalls, they looked good, so I bought them. They’re all fresh.”
Liu Boss didn’t suspect anything, he nodded, “Indeed, it’s hard to find such fresh vegetables at this time of day. They must have been picked recently.”
Xu Sangluo smiled and turned away,
“Thank you for your help, Liu Boss. Please don’t mind the simple food today, and don’t be polite with us. Do you have any dietary restrictions or preferences?”
Liu Boss, of course, wouldn’t be polite with her when it came to food.
“I don’t have any dietary restrictions, just make whatever you’re good at.”
“Okay, then Liu Boss, please sit and chat. Zhiyi Ge and Chen Ge, you two keep Liu Boss company, we’ll take care of the kitchen.”
But Liu Boss waved his hand first, “Why do I need company? I’ll help too. Don’t think that old Liu only knows how to eat. I used to work as an assistant to the master chef in a state-owned restaurant.”
Seeing that he had already rolled up his sleeves and was about to start working, Xu Sangluo looked at Qin Zhiyi.
Qin Zhiyi nodded at her.
Liu Boss had always been unpretentious, the more casual people were with him, the more comfortable he felt. Being too polite would make him uncomfortable.
Since that was the case, Xu Sangluo didn’t try to dampen his enthusiasm.
There were many people tonight, so she planned to make several dishes.
She killed both hens.
The giblets and blood were saved and made into a large bowl of spicy and sour chicken giblets.
One was stewed into a pot of fragrant clear chicken soup, with golden oil floating on the surface, it looked beautiful, and the aroma had already wafted out, making the neighbors start to salivate.
One was cut in half, one half was made into a dry pot chicken, and the other half was made into a soy sauce chicken.
Then there was a stir-fried cabbage, candied sweet potato, stir-fried green beans with pork belly, braised pork, and tomato scrambled eggs, and that was it.
She also made a hundred cabbage and pork dumplings while she had time.
These were for Liu Boss and Chen Tao to take home.
Unfortunately, the pork was a bit lacking.
She was thinking about when she could secretly pull a pig from the farm and slaughter it.
But the pigs she raised were all improved breeds, and if she pulled one out now, the contrast would be too obvious.
To get it out without being noticed, she would either have to use the National Research Institute as an excuse, like with the fruits and vegetables.
Or she could only use a foreign excuse.
Speaking of foreign countries, she remembered the letter she had sent before, she didn’t know if it had arrived yet. It shouldn’t be that fast, right?
The letter was to Xu’s grandfather, but she didn’t write anything in it, she just put a photo in it.
The photo was taken when she was setting up her stall in the town for the first time.
But she left a note behind the photo.
‘Zhao Xiaoman, Xie Feng’s second wife’s daughter, born in the same year, same month, and same hospital as Xie Huai Shu.’
There was no need to say more, Xu’s grandfather would know what she meant just by looking at the photo.
The letter had been sent for several days, and she didn’t know if it would reach her grandfather safely.
She had mixed feelings about this grandfather.
After all, she had never met him since birth, and by the time she knew about him, he had already passed away.
Her understanding of him came either from Xie Huai Shu’s bragging in her early years, or later from her uncle.
Her uncle was the child of Xu’s grandfather’s new wife overseas.
When they met, they were both in their twenties, and they were separated by two countries, so their relationship couldn’t be said to be very close.
Therefore, the information she could get from him was limited.
She didn’t hate, resent, or have any expectations for this grandfather.
Writing to him was simply because she didn’t want the Xie family to take advantage of her anymore.
She vaguely remembered that it should be next year or the year after that Xie Feng’s job would have problems.
At that time, Xie Feng would constantly ask Xu’s grandfather for money through Xie Huai Shu.
It could be said that Xie Feng’s later position was built up with money from Xu’s grandfather.
And Xie Huai Shu, her university career and connections, were basically built with money dug from Xu’s grandfather.
In this life, with her around, those bloodsuckers wouldn’t be able to suck a drop of blood from her or the Xu family.
She didn’t know that Xie Huai Shu was also writing a letter at this time, preparing to send it overseas to ask Xu’s grandfather for money.
Xie Huai Shu wasn’t stupid. Now that Liu Xiuhua was injured, she wouldn’t be able to get her money back for a while.
She didn’t dare to push too hard, afraid that the woman would reveal her secret of taking her place in school in a fit of anger.
Her father was still angry about the incident at the police station, and she didn’t dare to provoke him.
So, she could only swallow the bitter pill for now.
But she couldn’t be without money. She had boasted so much at school and owed so many favors.
Without money, her hard-earned connections would collapse, and she might even be ridiculed.
So, she could only ask her grandfather for money first.
She wasn’t unwilling to ask her wealthy grandfather for money, it was mainly because she had always played the role of a sensible, well-behaved, and unpretentious girl.
She hoped to leave a good impression on her grandfather, so that she could get more things in the future, such as his property.
These were all things that Liu Xiuhua had been whispering in her ear since she was a child.
Although she looked down on Liu Xiuhua, a country bumpkin, she had to admit that some of her ideas and suggestions were good.
But now she had no choice.
