Du Qingshuo was puzzled by her gaze and couldn’t help but smile. “Did you misunderstand my relationship with Josh? Actually, I work at this company.”
“Huh?” She was stunned.
“I’m the clothing purchaser for this company,” Du Qingshuo explained. “I was out all day meeting with clients, and when I came back, I saw you helping with copying documents and delivering coffee. That’s how I knew you were the new temporary assistant.”
So, Sister Du meant she had misunderstood? “But… you two yesterday…”
“We just happen to live next door to each other, and we took the same route home after work.”
Just like that?
Jian Shuning’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Du Qingshuo smiled softly. “I’m not lying to you. That house was a graduation gift from my parents. I had no idea the company’s boss would move in next door.”
Jian Shuning’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Sister Du, when did you start working at this company?”
“When did my brother move next door to you?”
“Hmm, let me think… He moved in about half a year ago.”
“Oh, I see.” Jian Shuning pondered, her thoughts a tangled mess. She needed to sort them out slowly.
Living next door to each other, could it be that her brother did it on purpose?
He was the kind of person who was proactive, dominant, and brave in everything, but when it came to pursuing girls, he was inexplicably reserved.
In high school, a girl from a nearby school wrote him a love letter, and he liked her too, but he acted cool and aloof. In the end, the girl was pursued by his good friend, and he regretted it.
In college, he liked a senior from a club, but he was considerate of the fact that she had just broken up with her boyfriend and didn’t want to take advantage of her vulnerability. He silently played the role of a protective knight, but in the end, the senior girl moved on, and he was mocked by his friends during a summer vacation gathering, which Jian Shuning overheard.
After that, he started his own business, and according to Zheng’s mother, who often complained to her mother, many girls in the company used work as an excuse to get close to him. He insisted on not dating coworkers, missing many opportunities.
Her brother was so proud and awkward when it came to relationships.
Even if he had feelings for Du Qingshuo, he wouldn’t show it at work. Maybe that’s why he thought of moving next door to her as a unique strategy.
Silly brother.
He called her silly, but he was just as silly when it came to pursuing girls.
Just living next door wasn’t enough; he needed to create romantic moments every day! And yesterday evening, she had even invited Du Qingshuo to dinner, but he missed such a good opportunity…
“What are you thinking about?” Du Qingshuo noticed her long silence and how she kept rubbing the glass, afraid she might break it and hurt herself. She quickly called out to her, “Jian Shuning!”
“Yes!” She jumped, startled, and quickly stood at attention.
Du Qingshuo couldn’t help but laugh.
Jian Shuning realized she had overreacted and felt a bit embarrassed, scratching her head.
Du Qingshuo found her even more adorable. “It’s almost time to get off work. Are you going to ride with Josh back home?”
She shook her head. “Brother said he has a business dinner tonight, so I have to go back by myself.”
“That’s perfect!” Du Qingshuo clapped her hands. “I don’t have any plans tonight either. How about we have dinner together?”
Jian Shuning’s eyes lit up. “Sure!”
She could take this opportunity to find out more about Sister Du’s preferences and see if she could help her brother… He was already thirty, and it was time for him to settle down.
Jian Shuning thought to herself, feeling a slight pang in her chest, but she quickly pushed it aside and smiled brightly at Du Qingshuo.
That evening at nine o’clock, when Zheng Yuanshi still hadn’t seen Jian Shuning, he began to feel like an idiot.
He had been worried that she wouldn’t be used to her first day at work and had even canceled his business dinner to come home early, but she was out having fun with friends without even letting him know.
He had showered, eaten dinner, read two business magazines, and reviewed the latest fashion industry report… and she still hadn’t come home!
Where had this girl gone? She only sent a message saying she was having dinner with a friend. Who was the friend? Where were they eating? She wasn’t familiar with Taipei, and if something happened to her, how would he explain it to her parents?
This annoying girl!
At ten-thirty, there was finally some noise outside, followed by the doorbell ringing.
Why didn’t she use her key to come in?
Zheng Yuanshi scoffed and sat firmly on the sofa, not moving an inch.
The doorbell continued to ring.
“Brother, it’s me, Ningning! Open the door! Brother, open the door quickly!” The door was knocked loudly.
Zheng Yuanshi was so angry that he gritted his teeth and abruptly got up to walk towards the door, pulling it open with a swift motion—
“You’re so noisy! You silly girl!”
Outside the door, Jian Shuning looked at him dumbfounded, with a beautiful woman standing beside her.
Zheng Yuanshi was taken aback. “Qingshuo?”
Du Qingshuo smiled gently. “Ningning is a bit drunk. Help her inside.”
Only then did Zheng Yuanshi notice that Jian Shuning’s round face was flushed, and her usually clear eyes were hazy with intoxication.
She was swaying unsteadily, and if it weren’t for Du Qingshuo supporting her, she would have collapsed on the ground. Silly girl.
