News of the poisoning incident at the first-year training exam quickly reached the academy headquarters, the headmaster, and the Elite Ten.
This was a serious matter.
Headmaster Nakiri Senzaemon, fearing even a moment’s delay in reaching the meeting room, directly connected to the Elite Ten for an online meeting.
Nakiri Senzaemon folded his arms across his chest, “What’s the situation on the ground?”
Soma Eisuke, with a serious expression, stood bent over in front of his desk, his hands supporting the edge of the table. He glanced at the live footage on his computer and spoke into the phone connected to the meeting room:
“The police have been called. A foreign object was indeed found in Aruchi Yuzu’s pudding. Chef Todoroki personally reviewed the security footage and confirmed that the man on the ground secretly put it there from under his fingernail. Toxicology testing will have to wait for the police.”
Nakiri Senzaemon nodded, “Next, regarding whether this exam should continue…”
On the live feed from the computer, Aruchi Yuzu loudly addressed Todoroki Gin, who had arrived to oversee the situation:
“I don’t think it’s necessary to end the exam. Everyone will have to eat breakfast sooner or later. The culprit has been apprehended. I think we just need to confirm that everyone present is an invited guest. A ten-minute pause should suffice.”
Todoroki Gin frowned and questioned, “Ten minutes? To verify the identities of several hundred people?”
Aruchi Yuzu looked up. Her usually gentle eyebrows revealed an uncommon sharpness; her aura was like a house cat finally showing its claws, radiating a fierce edge:
“Eight minutes to simultaneously request key access from the Metropolitan Police Department and the venue’s personnel list from the venue manager, and wait for approval. One minute to scan all faces. One minute to compare the results.”
The object floating in the air moved downward, stopping half a meter from Aruchi Yuzu’s ear, adding an air of mystery to her.
“It can do it.”
Todoroki Gin’s intensely oppressive gaze silently fell upon the small Aruchi Yuzu in front of him. The online meeting room on the other end of the camera fell silent.
Soma Eisuke watched Aruchi Yuzu’s unperturbed expression on the computer screen, his eyes fixed on her.
All eyes were on Aruchi Yuzu. Her demeanor remained relaxed; her expression and movements showed no nervousness. Even when she slightly tilted her head to look up at Todoroki Gin, there was no fear in her eyes. Instead, it seemed as if she was looking down on the events unfolding from a great height.
Aruchi Yuzu: “Kusuo, confirmed safe, right?”
Saiki Kusuko: “Yes, hurry up, I still want to eat the egg tarts over there.”
Aruchi Yuzu: “Received!”
Aruchi Yuzu: “By the way, cheating feels really good.”
Todoroki Gin received instructions from Nakiri Senzaemon through his earpiece: “Give her ten minutes.”
“The exam will be paused for ten minutes. If there are no results after ten minutes, we will postpone this exam.”
“No problem. Please send me the personnel list as soon as possible,” Aruchi Yuzu regained her lively demeanor as a 16-year-old girl. “Seriously, I got up at four this morning for this exam. No one is wasting my hard work!”
Yukihira Soma casually complained, “Hey! You slept until four; I haven’t slept all night!”
The stagnant atmosphere began to flow again. Nakiri Erina, beside him, wanted to retort, “Be serious! Food safety is the most important thing in cooking. If something happens…”
Yukihira Soma interrupted her, “But, as Aruchi-san said, it should be fine once we confirm the personnel information. There are so many cameras here; I didn’t even notice them until Aruchi-san pointed it out. Hahaha.”
Each examinee was assigned a recorder to count the number of dishes sold on the screen behind them.
Furthermore, everyone’s performance needed to be recorded; the selection of participants for the subsequent Autumn Selection would also consider their performance in this training.
This had been the case every year, and the invited diners all knew this.
Therefore, the person who would commit a crime here would definitely not be an officially invited guest.
Suzuki Sonoko explained this to Mouri Ran and Edogawa Conan.
Aruchi Yuzu returned to the counter behind her, her fingertips gliding across the image projected onto the refrigerator door, as if operating a physical screen. The system accurately executed the commands through light and temperature sensors.
Edogawa Conan really wanted to ask: Who is this baby bottle buddy of his?! Why can she request access to the Metropolitan Police Department’s identity information database?!
She sent the message in just two minutes; the rest was just waiting.
Edogawa Conan, with a cute little voice, poked his head out, “Yuzu-neesan, what’s that floating thing? It looks so amazing!”
Aruchi Yuzu felt everyone in the room prick up their ears.
She chuckled, a little pride in her eyes, “This? A biological detector from the Dream Research Institute! A must-have for fieldwork!”
Everyone, expecting something amazing, was unprepared and collectively widened their eyes: Field… fieldwork?!
Aruchi Yuzu decided to explain from the beginning:
“Because we had an exam the other day where we had to find natural ingredients in the surrounding restaurants and cook them. Although I passed, I was curious if there were any ingredients I missed, so I brought it out. I actually found a super important ingredient I missed! It’s called shanna, a wild ginger that grows underground. I didn’t recognize it, hehe.”
Everyone’s expressions gradually crumbled.
“I’ve looked for ingredients in the wild before, like wild fruits and nuts. Most importantly, the wild honey from the cliffs is absolutely amazing!”
Actually, she initially only went to the Dessert Kingdom’s forest, then expanded to the wild in this world.
“But the wild is always dangerous, like large animals like black bears. Most importantly, if you encounter something poisonous or miss an ingredient, that’s bad.”
“So my older brother gave me this biological detector. It’s basically a biological encyclopedia, with precise scanning capabilities, tranquilizer darts to subdue dangerous animals, and a Dream Research Institute’s proprietary anti-gravity device that allows it to fly super fast!”
“My brother said that his device had to fly faster than my cousin’s tennis ball to be considered a success. Ah no, to be considered complete. It’s not fully developed yet.”
The truth was a little far-fetched.
Only Kobayashi Ryokutan behind the screen showed a “treasure discovered” expression.
But involving the legendary Dream Research Institute, everyone quickly accepted it without question.
Furthermore, people immediately felt reassured. After being examined by such high-tech equipment, there was no need to worry about any bad guys sneaking in.
This was the Dream Research Institute.
It gathered the world’s top scientists, with inventions that surpassed the times. Every time they released a new product, it either gave people a sense of temporal confusion or made people feel like magic really existed.
Relieved, Ms. Shibasawa finally pressed her chest, “Your brother must love you very much. He’s worried about your safety, so he got you a product from the Dream Research Institute. You must protect yourself and not be like me, almost poisoned without even realizing it.”
Edogawa Conan leaned forward, “Why did that uncle try to poison the aunt? The aunt seems like a good person; she doesn’t seem like someone who would have grudges with others.”
Ms. Shibasawa was also angry and confused, “My only connection with him is that we’re both in the chicken farming business. He’s always wanted to become a supplier for Totsuki, but my farm won the bid. He just talked to me; he said he also received an order from Totsuki. I even congratulated him. I never expected…”
Involving Totsuki Academy, Todoroki Gin solemnly assured everyone present that he would thoroughly investigate and seriously deal with this matter.
He said, “We’ve already checked. Mr. Miyashita’s farm hasn’t reached any cooperation with Totsuki because the quality of their eggs doesn’t meet Totsuki’s purchasing standards. Totsuki will publish a list of all its real suppliers on the school’s homepage, and we will update the list in real-time. Everyone can check it anytime if needed.”
Today’s exam topic was “eggs”; each person had eggs on their table.
Aruchi Yuzu picked up an egg and asked, “Are these eggs supplied by Ms. Shibasawa’s farm?”
Ms. Shibasawa looked gently at the egg in Aruchi Yuzu’s hand and nodded, “Yes.”
Aruchi Yuzu smiled and praised, “They’re indeed high-quality eggs. It’s clear that Ms. Shibasawa raises her chickens well.”
A mechanical electronic voice interrupted everyone.
“Data collected.”
“Comparison starting.”
Aruchi Yuzu: “Kusuo, did you remember to make all the places cognitively confused? Seriously, when eating desserts, you always like to use female bodies. Why are you unwilling to transform when we go shopping together?”
Saiki Kusuo: “…I have no problem.”
“Comparison complete.”
Aruchi Yuzu walked back to the refrigerator door to check the results, her back to the crowd; no one could see her expression.
Her hands moved rapidly on the projection, and she only turned around after removing the projector from the refrigerator.
Her gaze seemed to casually pass over Edogawa Conan, who had somehow returned to her counter, then stopped on Todoroki Gin, “Chef Todoroki, I’ve sent you the results.”
Todoroki Gin looked at his phone screen, which was still downloading, and nodded, “I received it; it’s downloading…”
“The results show that everyone present has no problems. For safety reasons, our staff will carefully review this report, and we will also give it to the police when they arrive. Everyone doesn’t need to worry about questioning.”
Todoroki Gin lowered his voice and asked Nakiri Senzaemon through his earpiece, “Should we let the students continue the exam?”
After receiving an affirmative answer, he raised his voice and loudly announced:
“Ten seconds later, the exam will resume!”
The students quickly returned to their previous anxious state.
Whether it was poisoned or not, if they failed the exam, they were truly doomed!
