When Qin Feng woke up, he found himself sitting in a lavishly decorated, high-end restaurant. In front of him sat a little girl with a round face and big, sparkling eyes. She looked about four or five years old and was so adorable that he couldn’t help but want to pinch her cheeks.
At this moment, his heart was filled with shock and confusion. He clearly remembered just winning the championship of the Olympic Culinary Competition and getting into a car accident on his way home. How did he end up here when he woke up? And who was this little girl in front of him?
“Daddy, eat up! Once we’re done, we’ll head home to rest. I have school tomorrow!”
The little girl, with her big, watery eyes blinking at him, urged him sweetly.
“Daddy?”
Hearing this term, Qin Feng suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head. Then, an overwhelming flood of memories surged into his mind, leaving him utterly stunned. Now he understood—after the car accident, he had somehow transmigrated into another world! This place was a parallel world similar to Earth. The little girl in front of him was none other than his daughter, Qin Nan.
Taking a deep breath, Qin Feng calmed himself. Heaven had granted him a second chance at life, and he was determined to live it to the fullest.
He picked up his chopsticks, ready to eat. But when he looked at the dish before him—an oddly colorful concoction with bits of tomato and potato—he couldn’t help but wonder what kind of dish this was. ‘Tomato with potato?’ He mentally cringed. And the knife work! The potato slices were as thick as fingers, hacked unevenly as if someone had used a cleaver without any skill.
Qin Feng took a bite of the potato piece with some hesitation. It wasn’t outright bad, but it was definitely strange—like something out of a culinary nightmare.
As someone who had been a champion of the world’s four top culinary competitions—the Olympic Culinary Competition, the Bocuse d’Or in France, the Chinese World Culinary Championship, and the Oriental International Gourmet Contest—Qin Feng simply couldn’t tolerate such a dish appearing in a restaurant of this level.
Calling over a waiter, he said sternly, “I’m very dissatisfied with this dish. Potatoes and tomatoes? Seriously? This isn’t some roadside stall. And the knife work—just awful.”
“Sir, this dish is actually one of our most authentic creations, exactly like how Chef King Xue Jian made it!” The waiter explained proudly. The head chef of their restaurant was a disciple of the renowned Chef King Xue Jian, and his dishes were supposedly flawless recreations of the master’s recipes.
Still adapting to this strange new world, Qin Feng chose not to argue further. Instead, he decided to order something else. “Fine, then. Get me some ‘Sweet and Sour Cabbage’ and ‘Twice-Cooked Pork.’ Hurry it up.”
“Apologies, sir. We don’t have those dishes.”
“What? Those are basic dishes! How could you not have them?”
At this point, Qin Feng began to sense that something was off.
The waiter continued apologetically, “I’m sorry, sir, but we really don’t have those dishes. In fact, I’ve never even heard of them before.”
Hearing this, Qin Feng waved the waiter away and fell into deep thought. Slowly, he absorbed the memories of this world, piecing things together.
Soon, he understood the situation—this world had no established culinary traditions. The dishes from his past life simply didn’t exist here.
Realizing this, a spark of excitement lit up in Qin Feng’s eyes. In his previous life, he was a world-class chef, an expert in the eight major Chinese cuisines like Zhejiang, Fujian, and Hunan, as well as the specialties of countless other countries. If he opened a restaurant here, it would undoubtedly become a sensation, revolutionizing the food scene!
“Daddy, eat up! I still want to go home and watch cartoons.”
Seeing her dad zoning out, Qin Nan hurriedly urged him again.
“Alright, alright. My precious girl is so well-behaved.”
Qin Feng looked at his daughter, happiness filling his heart as he gently patted her head.
“Daddy, stop it! You’re messing up my hair!”
Qin Nan pouted, puffing up her cheeks as she tidied her hair with her tiny hands. She was unbelievably cute.
After their meal, Qin Feng carried his daughter back to their home in the heart of Jianghai City. Unlocking the door to their villa, he stepped inside to find a wedding photo hanging on the wall. The woman in the photo was stunningly beautiful, like a goddess. This was his wife, Xu Fei.
After tucking Qin Nan into her bedroom, Qin Feng wandered around the house. The interior was luxuriously decorated, featuring a panoramic skylight, Rococo-style furnishings, a study lined with bookshelves holding over a thousand volumes, and even a wine cellar filled with vintage wines.
Looking around, Qin Feng couldn’t help but marvel. Based on his newfound memories, the original Qin Feng and Xu Fei had been college sweethearts who married after graduation. Xu Fei later entered the entertainment industry and became a star, while Qin Feng faced career setbacks and became a stay-at-home dad to care for their daughter. Over time, their relationship had grown distant, almost to the point of estrangement. Xu Fei rarely came home now, and when she did, it was usually just to pick up Qin Nan for outings.
Shaking his head, Qin Feng muttered to himself, “Qin Feng, oh Qin Feng, you’ve really failed as a man, huh? From now on, I’ll take back the dignity of love and career for both of us.”
Determined, he went to his room, sat in front of the computer, and began researching this world. He also looked for rental properties, planning to open a restaurant.
After working late into the night, Qin Feng finally finalized his plans and fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Qin Feng woke up early to prepare breakfast for Qin Nan. He decided to make ‘Sweet and Sour Cabbage’ to test her taste and gauge the preferences of this world’s people.
Washing a head of cabbage, he skillfully heated the pan, poured in the oil, and stir-fried with practiced ease. For a world-class chef, making ‘Sweet and Sour Cabbage’ was child’s play.
“Daddy, it smells so good!”
Not long after, Qin Nan woke up. Catching a whiff of the sweet and tangy aroma, she exclaimed in delight and ran to the kitchen.
“Go wash your hands and eat.”
Qin Feng brought the dish to the table along with a bowl of rice.
After washing her hands, Qin Nan sat at the table, staring curiously at the black-and-white contrast of the dish before her. She took a bite and immediately widened her eyes in excitement.
“Daddy, Daddy! It’s so delicious! This is amazing!”
“If it’s good, eat more. Didn’t Daddy’s cooking always taste good?”
Qin Feng smiled and ruffled her hair.
“Daddy’s cooking was always tasty, but this is the best! Sweet and sour, it’s perfect!”
Qin Nan happily gobbled up the dish, finishing her bowl of rice in no time.
Watching her eat so enthusiastically, Qin Feng knew—his grand plan was already in motion.
