Chapter 24capture: Isn’t Captain Chen Just Showing Off His Love?
Chen Mo washed the stains thoroughly three times with cold water, ensuring they were completely clean, before hanging the small piece of clothing to dry.
Song Zhiyi’s bedroom door was tightly shut. It was only 9:30, but after some thought, Chen Mo picked up his phone and searched, “What to do if your wife has period pain and can’t eat?”
After browsing through a few pages, he headed to the kitchen and made some brown sugar water with boiled eggs.
While the brown sugar water was still hot, he brought it to Song Zhiyi’s room.
Knock, knock, knock.
“…”
No response came from inside.
“Can I come in?”
“…Yes.”
So, she wasn’t sleeping. Was she just sulking earlier?
Chen Mo pushed open the bedroom door to see Song Zhiyi lying on the bed with a hot water bottle pressed to her abdomen, playing on her phone, deliberately avoiding eye contact with him.
“I made you some brown sugar water. Drink it before you sleep.” Chen Mo stood by the bed, holding the bowl, noticing she was still playing that “Sheep a Sheep” game.
“Oh.”
Song Zhiyi sat up reluctantly, still holding the hot water bottle. When she saw the bowl in his hand, she hesitated.
“There’s an egg in it…” She wasn’t a big fan of boiled eggs.
“I read online it can help with period pain,” Chen Mo said earnestly. He had noticed that brown sugar water and eggs were the most frequently mentioned remedies in the replies he read.
Seeing her reluctance, Chen Mo sat directly on the edge of her bed, holding the bowl. “If it’s hard for you to eat on your own, I can feed you.”
“I can eat it myself.” Song Zhiyi quickly took the bowl from his hands, stirred it a few times with the spoon, and began sipping it in small gulps.
Chen Mo sat by the bed, watching her drink.
“…”
The pressure was immense!
Song Zhiyi struggled to finish the egg, almost choking in the process.
“Did you… finish the laundry?” She tried to find a topic to distract him from staring.
“Mm.” Chen Mo nodded. “Washed it very thoroughly.”
Her toes curled as she dug them into the bedsheet. Quickly, she gulped down the rest of the brown sugar water and handed the empty bowl back to him.
“Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. Don’t forget to brush your teeth before bed.”
Chen Mo left the room with the empty bowl. Since she’d eaten so little at dinner, getting her to eat even this much was already an improvement.
The warm brown sugar water spread heat through her abdomen, making her feel cozy and comfortable.
Song Zhiyi put down her phone, closed the game app, and let out a sigh…
She felt like she’d troubled him again.
The next morning.
Chen Mo woke up early, kept breakfast warm in the pot for Song Zhiyi, and quietly opened her bedroom door before leaving. Seeing her curled up around a pillow, sleeping soundly, he guessed her pain had eased. Feeling reassured, he headed out.
At the police station, Sun Yang was jogging on the training field. When he saw Chen Mo, he waved. “Captain Chen! Join me for a run!”
“No, thanks.” Chen Mo declined Sun Yang’s invitation and went straight to his office.
When he arrived, he saw Gao Yue and two female officers returning with breakfast. He called out to Gao Yue.
“Gao Yue.”
“???”
Was Captain Chen calling her?
He actually called her!
“Yes, Captain! At your service!” Gao Yue quickly set down her steamed buns and soy milk, standing straight and at attention.
“Do you get period pain?” Chen Mo asked bluntly.
“…”
What?
Gao Yue was utterly bewildered and stunned.
“Uh… I’ve exercised a lot since I was a kid, so I don’t really have period pain…” She scratched her nose awkwardly. “Captain, why are you asking this?”
“Oh, my wife seems to have pretty bad period pain.”
Just reading stuff online wasn’t very reliable; he figured it was better to ask the women around him.
Gao Yue: “…”
She felt like crying!
Captain, you’re asking for your wife?! Could you spare a thought for your admirer’s feelings?
“I don’t experience it much, but I’ve heard brown sugar water works wonders.” Despite feeling heartbroken, she earnestly gave her suggestion.
“Tried that. Got anything else?” He had already used brown sugar water the night before.
“Um… oh, right! Use a hot water bottle to warm the abdomen.”
“Already did that.” He’d given one to Song Zhiyi to hold all night.
“…”
Sorry, that’s all I’ve got!
“If nothing else works, she could try medication. Ibuprofen is pretty effective.”
Chen Mo nodded slightly, mentally noting the name of the medicine.
When Sun Yang and his group returned from their morning run, they noticed Gao Yue looking downcast, barely touching her steamed buns.
“What’s wrong, Sister Yue?” Sun Yang asked boldly. “If you can’t finish your food, I’ll help!”
“Take it, all of it.” Gao Yue shoved the buns into his hands.
Hmph!
All he cares about is food!
“Wow, thanks, Sister Yue!” Sun Yang happily grabbed the buns, stuffing them into his mouth until his cheeks were bulging. “Why are you so upset?”
“I’m just… heartbroken.” Gao Yue propped her chin on her hand.
Now she believed it—Captain Chen was really married.
“Huh?”
Who could possibly break the spirit of the mighty “Queen of Thorns”?
“Captain Chen just asked me how to help his wife with period pain…”
“Pfft—” Sun Yang couldn’t hold it in, spraying bits of bun everywhere. “Sorry, sorry…”
The fierce and stoic Captain Chen doing something like that?
Isn’t this just shamelessly showing off his love?
And honestly… doesn’t it just make everyone even more curious about what his wife must be like?
