The Goal Is to Become the Strongest Card Master
The Goal Is to Become the Strongest Card Master | Chapter 53: The Deal

After leaving Ning Yishi’s place, Gu Nianye dropped Su Liqian off back at the Sixth Star District.

This time, the car ride was noticeably slower. Su Liqian turned to Gu Nianye and thanked him.

“Here, take this.”

Gu Nianye handed her a card.

Su Liqian reached out to take the card. It was an A-level function card: a Sensor Card.

“What’s this for?”

“It’s a special kind of sensor. If you’re ever in danger, just inject your spiritual strength into it, and the twin card will instantly pinpoint your location.”

This was probably the longest thing he had said to her since they met.

Su Liqian nodded.

“Thank you. I’ll keep it then.”

After saying goodbye, she headed home. The moment she opened the door, she saw an unexpected guest in the living room.

“Oh, Xiao Qian’s back! Come, sit down, sit down!”

Bai Yu’s sharp voice made Su Liqian instinctively frown. When she saw her mother’s slightly awkward and helpless expression, she immediately understood what was going on.

This aunt was never this enthusiastic, and ever since her mother married into Sixth Star District, Bai Yu hadn’t even bothered visiting them once.

So why the sudden enthusiasm and even showing up uninvited?

Something was definitely up.

She glanced over at her uncle and cousin, Hao Lin, who had tagged along. A vague suspicion crept into her mind.

“You little girl, your cousin sent you messages, but you didn’t reply. I said I’d invite your family for a meal, and your mom said you’re busy with the competition.”

Bai Yu pretended to be a bit annoyed.

“Xiao Qian’s been training a lot lately. I didn’t want to bother her,” her mom chimed in with an awkward smile, glancing at Su Mingyang.

“Yeah, exactly, Sister. She’s been exhausted from training. She was out again first thing this morning. We just didn’t want to distract her.”

“Oh come on, I’m not really upset. I just thought—hey, why not bring the whole family to visit? Sister, ever since you got married, we barely talk anymore, and I’ve never even seen your new place. I finally had time, so I thought I’d drop by.”

Then Bai Yu turned her eyes toward her son and Su Liqian.

“And look at these two—both so talented! They both made it to the district finals. They really should be spending more time together, helping each other out. Who knows? If they both make it to the Star Realm Tournament, our family will be famous!”

She patted the seat next to her, gesturing for Su Liqian to sit down.

“Auntie, I actually need to head back to school for training, so I won’t be able to stay.”

Su Liqian smiled politely and was just about to make her escape—when, of course, Bai Yu stopped her.

“Hey now, don’t rush off. Just a few minutes, come on. It’s been so long! And your cousin wanted to talk to you about the competition too.”

She pulled her over to the couch, not giving her much choice.

“Actually, why don’t you two train together this afternoon? Your cousin’s one of the favorites to move on to the Star Realm Tournament too.”

“I don’t think that’ll work. I’ve already made plans with my classmates to train at the school facility. Outsiders aren’t allowed in.”

Bai Yu’s eyes flickered. “Oh… I see. Well then, how about this? I’ll rent a training center for you guys. You can invite your classmates too! Those private places are way better than the school ones anyway.”

Su Liqian went quiet for a second.

It was clear—they were set on getting something out of her today.

“Auntie, if you have something to say, just be straight with me. I’ve got training soon, and I really don’t need my cousin tagging along.”

Su Liqian didn’t want to play around with them anymore and directly addressed the issue

Bai Yu let out an awkward laugh, then leaned in with a grin. “Oh come on, what could I possibly want from you? We just came to see how you’re doing. It’s just that, well, Hao Lin has a match tomorrow…”

Su Liqian glanced over at Hao Lin, who was still looking down at his communicator, seemingly uninterested.

“By the way, Xiao Qian, what was that Illusion World card you used in the last match?”

“Journey to the West.”

Su Liqian’s voice was neither cold nor warm, and she snorted inwardly.

Finally getting to the point, huh?

“Oh right, Journey to the West. Sister, you’re so lucky. Your kid’s a Dream Caster already, and she even made her own Illusion World card!”

Bai Yu nudged Hao Lin with her elbow, and he finally looked up, picking up the conversation.

“She’s talking about the card you used to beat Ji Yanxi’s Falxius.”

“Yeah, that one!”

At this point, Su Liqian had figured out their purpose for coming, but she pretended not to understand and asked, “Oh, I do have a card like that. What’s the matter?”

“Well, the opponent Hao Lin is up against tomorrow mainly uses cards from Beastborne Chronicles. He’s been stressing about it. But if he had your card, it’d be a game changer!”

Su Liqian frowned and pretended to be confused.

“But that’s an original Illusion World. Even if I gave you the card, wouldn’t it be useless if you don’t understand the world behind it?”

“Just explain the basics to me. I’ll see if I can make it work.”

Although in general, to use a card effectively, one needs to thoroughly understand the Illusion World it corresponds to. The level of understanding of the Illusion World directly impacts how well the card can be used.

Therefore, without a simulation sphere to explore the Illusion World, using the card would be very difficult.

There were rare cases where someone managed to pull it off, but they were usually very simple Illusion Worlds. Complex ones were nearly impossible to use effectively without full immersion.

But Hao Lin was very confident in his own talent.

He was the “Heaven’s Chosen One” after all—everything had gone his way since he became a card master. Surrounded by praise and admiration, he came to truly believe he was extraordinary.

So, things others saw as difficult didn’t faze him. In fact, the challenge just made him more eager to try.

What others couldn’t do… maybe he could.

After all, this wouldn’t be the first time.

Of course, he’s confident, but he also has his own judgment.

If it were some extremely complicated Illusion World, he might hesitate a bit. But he had taken a quick glance at the few scenes Su Liqian showed from the Journey to the West card.

A gourd, a mirror, and a fan. Although they seemed a little strange, none of them were anything out of the ordinary. In fact, they were pretty common, almost like everyday items—not exactly weapons with massive destructive power.

From that, he figured that the mysterious Illusion World probably wasn’t anything too deep or complex.

Combined with the name, Hao Lin clapped his hands and decided it was probably just some kind of “travel journal” type of story.

It shouldn’t be that hard.

Hao Lin gave a confident smile, then casually looked away, as if he didn’t even think Su Liqian would refuse his request.

“No.”

Su Liqian’s expression turned cold.

She had already been polite enough with these people, but when it came to ridiculous requests like this, she didn’t want to waste time. So she straight-up turned him down.

She clearly saw Bai Yu and Hao Lin freeze for a moment, and Hao Lin immediately furrowed his brows, glaring at Su Liqian with a sour look.

“No?”

“Come on, Xiao Qian, this is where you’re wrong. It’s just a card. Your cousin is about to compete, and if you two could both make it to the Star Realm, you could have each other’s backs.”

Although Bai Yu said that, she secretly felt that Su Liqian probably wouldn’t make it that far.

“I’ll trade you an A-level card for it.”

Hao Lin hadn’t planned on doing that, but seeing Su Liqian’s attitude, he had no choice but to offer it. He figured he could just toss her a useless card to get her to cooperate.

“You do know that forcibly using a card can lead to spiritual strength going out of control, right?”

Seeing that she wasn’t unwilling to lend it, Hao Lin’s expression softened, and he raised an eyebrow with a smile. “Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”

“Still no. What if something happens and you come blaming me?”

After being rejected again and again, Hao Lin’s patience was starting to wear thin.

“It’s just a card. What could happen? You’re making a big deal out of nothing.”

Hao Lin mumbled under his breath, then, seeing Su Liqian’s firm stance, he reluctantly said, “Fine, fine. Just lend me the card. If anything goes wrong, it won’t be on you, I’ll take full responsibility. Deal?”

“Yeah, yeah, your cousin knows what he’s doing. Just give us the card. I’m not the kind of unreasonable aunt who would blame a kid if something went wrong.”

Bai Yu chuckled, clearly thinking Su Liqian was overreacting.

“Alright, but we need to write up an agreement.”

Su Liqian projected a screen from her communicator. Once both of them signed and added their spiritual strength, the contract would take effect immediately and be protected by interstellar law.

“What’s with the formalities?”

Hao Lin muttered but still signed the contract with Su Liqian, holding back his frustration.

“A transaction agreement?”

Hao Lin glanced at the terms, and the air around him grew even colder.

“Of course. Even if I’m lending it to you, the price still needs to be stated clearly. This card of mine is a unique creation—its value is normally much higher than that of a regular A-level card. But since we’re family, I won’t charge that much—just the price of a normal card.”

Su Liqian’s “look at how generous I’m being” expression made Hao Lin want to explode.

Su Liqian had left herself a safety net. The contract clearly stated that if the card was used without fully understanding the Illusion World, and an accident happened due to violating the rules, the seller would not be held responsible.

Hao Lin and Bai Yu exchanged glances. Bai Yu looked slightly awkward and was about to try bargaining, but Hao Lin cut her off.

“Alright, is this good now?”
