Catastrophe Descends: I Scavenge in the Dungeon
Catastrophe Descends: I Scavenge in the Dungeon Chapter 20: The Farm is Busy 8

The stones on the outermost layer began to slide down continuously.

Ji He stood up straight again with a serious expression, gripping the spiked club in her hand tightly.

Since the stone wall had been built in a hurry, it was merely a pile of rocks rather than a properly secured structure, with small gaps in between.

Adding to her concern was the intelligence of the geese—she feared they might simply ram the wall apart with brute force.

If that happened, she would have to keep running.

If she got swallowed up by the flock, her fate would be much worse than last time with the chickens.

These geese had incredibly sharp beaks—getting bitten wasn’t just a matter of bruises and a little blood; they could strip the flesh right off her bones.

With so many geese, if each took just one bite, she wouldn’t have anything left.

Ji He leaned against the wall behind her while the stone barrier still held, quickly taking out a bar of chocolate and eating it. She stuffed the large piece into her mouth, finishing it in just two or three bites.

It had been hours since she last ate, and if she didn’t replenish her energy, she wouldn’t last much longer.

After finishing the chocolate, she took a few gulps of water, finally feeling a bit better.

Meanwhile, the stone wall in front of her continued to shed rocks.

These geese were relentless.

Ji He knew the weakest part of the wall probably only had one layer left. A few more pecks, and she’d be exposed.

She raised her guard, gripping her spiked club with her right hand while reaching back with her left to tend to the still-bleeding wound on her lower back.

She didn’t need to heal completely—just stop the bleeding and ensure it wouldn’t hinder her movements.

Earlier, while running from the geese, she had slipped up and lost a few chunks of flesh to their bites. Blood was still flowing from the wounds.

As she hurriedly stopped the bleeding, she kept her eyes locked on the stone wall in front of her. It was getting thinner by the second, and through the gaps, she could clearly see the massive heads of the geese.

Unexpectedly, she locked eyes with one of them—a cross-species stare-down.

From its eyes, Ji He could see naked rage and disdain.

Was this really a goose? It felt more like a small tank.

Ji He was fully prepared to charge out at any moment.

Just then, a hole suddenly opened in the stone wall. The first goose, too impatient to wait for the whole wall to collapse, stretched its absurdly long neck through the opening.

It actually stuck its head in?

Ji He’s eyes lit up—what was she hesitating for?

Hesitating for even a second would be an insult to the twenty-plus years she had spent eating duck necks.

She immediately grabbed the goose’s neck with her left hand, preventing it from struggling, while her right hand wielded a knife. With precision and speed, she delivered a fatal cut to its throat.

Goose blood sprayed across her face.

She didn’t even have time to wipe it off. After killing the first goose, she shoved its twitching body out of the hole.

Then came the second, the third, the fourth…

Goose heads kept poking through, one after another.

Ji He’s hands never stopped—she killed each goose as soon as it appeared, her movements shockingly fast.

Even so, the stone wall continued to crumble under the force of the attacking geese, developing a second hole, then a third…

Ji He only had two hands—no matter how fast she worked, she couldn’t keep up.

Dodging frantically in the tight space, she barely evaded the snapping beaks while reaching out to grab the wildly thrashing goose heads, slicing their throats as quickly as possible.

She had no idea how long she kept at it. Her hands trembled from exhaustion, her grip weakening.

At last, the stone wall completely collapsed.

And the geese were still not all dead.

Ji He reacted instantly, leaping to the side to escape.

Even so, she failed to dodge an attack from one of the geese waiting outside.

A large goose clamped its beak down on her butt, tearing away a sizable chunk of flesh.

The pain made her suck in a sharp breath.

But she ran even faster. She couldn’t afford to stop—not for a second. If she stopped, she’d lose more than just a chunk of meat.

After sprinting a few steps, she glanced back.

Good. After hours of fighting, the number of geese had significantly decreased compared to the start.

If she just held on a little longer, victory would be hers.

Determination flashed in Ji He’s eyes. She quickly stuffed another piece of chocolate into her mouth for energy, picked up her spiked club, and charged back into battle.

She had no idea how much time passed.

When the last goose finally fell, Ji He’s tense body relaxed.

Her legs gave out beneath her, and she stumbled to the ground.

The pain almost made her scream.

Her backside was riddled with bloody holes from the geese’s relentless bites.

These geese were despicable—completely lacking in sportsmanship, targeting her back and butt specifically.

Ji He’s trembling hands reached out to treat the most painful areas first, stopping the bleeding before moving on to the next wound.

Only after treating all her injuries and ensuring the bleeding had stopped did she finally get up and walk to the door to check the time.

There were just over seven hours left on the countdown.

Two hundred geese. That meant she needed to process at least thirty per hour—one every two minutes?

Ji He looked down at the massive geese sprawled across the ground.

Without a second of hesitation, she grabbed one and ran.

There was no time to waste—if she didn’t finish in time, she’d be fired!

Getting fired was absolutely not an option. If she got kicked out of the aid program, she’d be plunged into extreme poverty.

Fueled by fear of losing her job, Ji He dropped to her knees atop a goose carcass and began plucking feathers like a madwoman.

Her arms no longer had the luxury of feeling sore. Both hands worked together, ripping out feathers with ruthless efficiency.

Her eyes gleamed with a savage light—she had become a soulless feather-plucking machine.

Since she knew the farm didn’t need the heads, necks, or wings, she skipped plucking those parts entirely. Instead, she cut them off and stored them away, planning to process them later at home.

And so, working at an insane pace, she finally finished processing all the geese just before the deadline.

After handing over the last batch of goose meat, Ji He collapsed onto the ground in a spread-eagle position.

Her arms twitched painfully at the slightest movement—she couldn’t even lift them.

Now she understood why the aid program didn’t run every single day. If it did, everyone would end up getting fired.

What kind of superhuman body could endure this kind of workload?

After lying there for a moment, Ji He struggled to get up.

Now wasn’t the time to rest—she still had more important goals to accomplish.

She walked to the door and checked the countdown. Two minutes remained.

She stripped off her bloodstained clothes and hung them up, then sat by the water basin, storing the remaining water in her spatial inventory while recovering her stamina.

Estimating that about twenty seconds remained, she stood up and slowly walked to the door.

Preparing to dash out the moment it opened.

She stared at the countdown above.

Silently counting down in her mind while making her final preparations.

First, she ensured her face mask was secure. Then, she pinned the scavenger badge onto her chest.

5… 4… 3… 2… 1…
