Catastrophe Descends: I Scavenge in the Dungeon Chapter 6: The Farm Is Busy 2

Ji He looked around. Surrounding her was a vast stretch of chicken coops, extending beyond what the eye could see. In front of each coop stood a person.

Everyone’s face was covered with a thin veil, obscuring their features, but it was clear they had all come straight from bed. Many were barefoot and dressed in sleepwear, just like her.

Each person was glancing around curiously, but none had stepped forward to enter the coops.

Before long, the first brave soul made a move—a tall, burly man who seemed to have grown impatient. With a strong push, he shoved open the door and walked into a coop.

One after another, the rest of the people followed suit. Ji He also stepped inside.

However, she couldn’t help but question the task at hand—processing 100 chickens in 8 hours. It wasn’t that she doubted herself, but back on M-Star, skilled butchers could slit the throats of more than a dozen chickens in a single minute.

And she was one of the best.

To secure a job once, she had slaughtered over a hundred chickens in an hour.

But here? Just plucking and gutting 100 chickens—how could that possibly take 8 whole hours?

The moment Ji He stepped into the coop, she was stunned.

Hundreds of chickens roamed freely inside. Their feathers were completely black, and their heads were topped with green crests. At the moment, they were strolling about leisurely on the ground.

As soon as they noticed Ji He entering, they all stopped.

A wave of hostile gazes locked onto her instantly.

Some even spread their wings in an intimidating display, as if warning her that if she dared to take another step forward, they would attack!

And it wasn’t just their color that was unusual.

These chickens were huge—every single one stood as tall as Ji He’s thighs.

Their sharp beaks gleamed with a metallic sheen, looking anything but harmless. She had no doubt that if one of them pecked her, it would leave a deep, bloody wound.

And their feet weren’t any less dangerous. Their talons were razor-sharp, scratching deep marks into the ground as they moved. She was certain that a single swipe would break skin.

Were these even chickens? No, these were chickens plus!

Ji He hesitated, but when she glanced up at the clock above, she saw that five minutes had already passed since the task began.

If she didn’t start slaughtering soon, she would fall behind.

She no longer aimed to kill a hundred chickens within an hour, but in all her years of working, she had never backed down from a challenge!

Ji He scanned the area and immediately spotted a set of overalls, an apron, and a large cleaver hanging on the nearby wall. The clothes were stained with old bloodstains—though whether they belonged to chickens or something else, she couldn’t be sure.

After putting on the protective gear, she tightened the straps to ensure nothing would hinder her movements. Then, gripping the cleaver firmly, she looked for her first target.

The chickens grew restless as soon as she dressed. It was as if they knew what was about to happen.

Ignoring them, Ji He searched the coop and locked eyes with the most aggressive-looking rooster.

Good. She would take down the toughest one first.

Once the big one was dealt with, the rest would be easier.

Raising the cleaver high, Ji He lunged at the rooster.

The moment she unleashed the aura of a seasoned butcher who had ended the lives of thousands of chickens, the once-intimidating flock scattered like frightened birds.

Several even let out panicked cries.

But, as always, there were a few troublemakers.

Instead of fleeing, several chickens charged at her, flapping their massive wings as they took to the air, ready to fight her head-on.

Ji He sighed internally. Flying, huh?

Swiftly, she tucked the cleaver into the belt at her waist.

Rather than retreating, she dashed forward to meet the attack.

Dodging a sharp beak, she grabbed one of the chicken’s legs midair.

In the process, another chicken managed to peck her arm, tearing out a chunk of flesh and leaving a deep, bloody wound.

Blood streamed from the wound, but Ji He didn’t even spare it a glance.

Without a moment’s hesitation, she swung the chicken by its legs in a full 360-degree arc.

The airborne chickens surrounding her were sent flying, crashing into the rest of the flock.

Three went down in a single move.

A clean triple kill.

If she weren’t pressed for time, Ji He would have whistled in satisfaction. Her reflexes were still as sharp as ever.

Drawing her cleaver again, she rushed toward the fallen chickens.

With precise, practiced motions, she swiftly slit the throats of three before they could get back on their feet.

Blood sprayed high into the air, drenching her face and making her appear even more terrifying to the remaining chickens.

The last surviving one scrambled to its feet, terrified.

It let out frantic, high-pitched cries and attempted to flee into the flock.

However, as soon as it ran toward the others, the chickens scattered, leaving an empty space around it.

With nowhere to hide, it met its end under Ji He’s cleaver.

With the troublemakers dealt with, the rest of the chickens were much easier to handle.

Of course, some still struggled fiercely in the face of death, leaving Ji He with a few more cuts and scratches.

But as long as she protected her vital areas, nothing was life-threatening.

After an hour of relentless slaughter, exhaustion finally caught up to her.

Holding the cleaver, Ji He found a random spot to sit down, breathing heavily as she observed her surroundings.

In the corner of the coop, she spotted a massive water basin.

Next to it lay a smaller knife, a large tub, and a conveyor belt.

Ji He stood up and walked over, inspecting the setup.

She quickly figured it out—this was the processing station. The chickens needed to be plucked, cleaned, and placed onto the conveyor belt, where they would likely be transported away.

She dipped her fingers into the water—ice cold, nothing unusual.

Nearby, a trash bin was half-hidden behind the basin. She hadn’t noticed it earlier, but it was probably meant for feathers and other waste.

With everything clear, she turned back to retrieve the chickens she had slaughtered.

The remaining chickens, seeing that she wasn’t paying attention to them anymore, lazily resumed wandering around.

Alien chickens or not, they had the same memory span as M-Star chickens—they only remembered food, not danger.

Ignoring them, Ji He focused on her task.

Back on M-Star, chickens were scalded in hot water before plucking. But there was no hot water here.

She would have to do it by brute force.

And that was when everything suddenly changed.
