Just as Ji He took the chicken out of the water tank, the drainage valve at the bottom of the tank automatically opened, causing the slightly feathered water to drain away in no time.
As soon as the drainage valve closed, the faucet above began to gush water again, quickly refilling the tank.
Amazing!
Ji He widened her eyes. Was it really this advanced?
She reached into the water, instinctively wanting to test if she could store it in her space. In an instant, the entire tank of water disappeared right before her eyes.
Ji He: “…”
If she said she didn’t mean to do that, would anyone believe her?
She was just curious and wanted to try it out—how did it vanish just like that?
Now what?
Luckily, the faucet quickly started refilling the tank again, easing Ji He’s worries.
This time, she didn’t dare to mess with the water anymore. Instead, she sat on a stool and got to work.
Although these chickens were huge, the basic steps remained the same.
She was already an experienced worker, so it didn’t take long for her to get into a rhythm.
No exaggeration—among all the recruits here, few could match her skills. After all, she had spent two entire school breaks working at a poultry farm.
If it weren’t for the bird flu outbreak that shut the farm down, she wouldn’t have wanted to leave.
Ji He quickly plucked feathers, gutted the chickens, rinsed them clean, and placed the meat onto the conveyor belt. However, instead of moving, the belt emitted a mechanical voice:
“Incomplete processing. Please ensure the chicken is properly prepared.”
Ji He: “???”
Wait, how was it not clean enough?
There was nothing left—just meat and bones!
With no other choice, she took the chicken off the belt and reworked it. She removed the bones and placed it back on the conveyor.
Still unqualified.
She chopped off the head, neck, and tail before trying again.
Still no good.
Frustrated, she ruthlessly hacked off the wings and put it back. If this didn’t work, she’d have to start chopping drumsticks next.
This time, the machine finally approved it, and the chicken meat was transported away.
Ji He wasn’t sure whether she felt more relieved or regretful—her chicken drumsticks were gone.
Sighing, she waved her hand and stored all the discarded chicken heads, necks, wings, and guts into her space.
After some thought, she even collected the feathers. Properly cleaned, they could be used to make feather dusters.
Since others didn’t want these parts, she would gladly take them. The more, the better.
Meat was expensive, and she hadn’t been willing to buy much. If she could “harvest” resources from the farm, that would be perfect!
Her Level 3 storage space was huge—about 1,000 cubic meters, including height. The items she had purchased barely took up any room.
She hadn’t had time to organize it, so everything was scattered messily inside. While she had a lot of supplies, she realized she didn’t have any basins. For now, the meat could only be stacked on the storage space floor. Fortunately, the blood wouldn’t spread inside.
Ji He made a mental note to buy basins later, then refocused on her work.
She stepped on a chicken to keep it from moving and used both hands to pluck feathers at double speed.
She moved so fast that her hands nearly left afterimages in the air. Gritting her teeth, she yanked out feathers furiously, determined to work twice as hard. Even the lingering pain from earlier seemed to disappear.
Her mindset had shifted.
At first, she was working for the farm—as a dedicated employee, she was just doing her job.
Now, she was working for herself—going all out as if her life depended on it!
All those chicken scraps and wings belonged to her now. Even the tails wouldn’t be wasted—they could be fed to the little crayfish and crabs in the water!
Her motto: “If I won’t die from it, I’ll work myself to death!”
This time, she processed a chicken in half the time as before. Without hesitation, she quickly chopped off the head, neck, wings, and guts, rinsed them clean, and placed the chicken on the conveyor belt.
As expected, it was approved, and the meat was transported away.
Satisfied, Ji He moved on to the next one.
And so, for the next few hours, she repeatedly slaughtered and processed chickens in a continuous cycle.
When she ran out of chickens to process, she grabbed her knife and became an unstoppable poultry executioner, slaughtering her way through the coop.
When her arms got sore, she switched to plucking and deboning instead.
Gradually, she figured out a trick—since only the meat mattered, why waste time scraping every last bit off the bones?
Chickens varied in fat content, and each one yielded different amounts of meat.
The machine never specified how much meat had to be left on the bones, so she deliberately left more behind, testing the limits.
Sure enough, it still passed.
Pleased with herself, she started leaving thicker layers of meat on the bones. This not only sped up her deboning process but also added a little extra to her personal stash.
A win-win situation.
By the time Ji He finished processing the last chicken, she picked up her cleaver, ready to continue.
But when she looked around, the coop was completely empty—not a single chicken left.
Ji He: “…”
That was it? They ran out of chickens this fast?
She didn’t even feel like she’d had her fill of slaughtering yet.
Despite her lingering enthusiasm, she had no choice but to stop. Slowly, she walked toward the door and removed her work uniform, hanging it up.
While she had been too busy plucking feathers to notice before, now that she had stopped, every step she took made her whole body ache.
Looking down, she saw multiple bloody gashes on her arms and thighs. The holes pecked through her pajama pants revealed gruesome wounds underneath.
Though they had stopped bleeding heavily, each movement still caused fresh trickles of blood to seep out.
It was a miserable sight.
She had no medicine in her storage space, and there was no way to treat her injuries. All she could do was grit her teeth and endure it. But the more she tried to ignore the pain, the worse it seemed to get.
Now, even her bones ached.
At that moment, Ji He desperately wished for a healing ability in this game.
If she could awaken a healing power, she wouldn’t have to suffer through injuries like this!
Trying to find humor in her situation, she let out a weak laugh before shifting her focus elsewhere.
Above her, the clock on the wall wasn’t an actual clock—it was a countdown timer.
Fifteen minutes remained.
Ji He pushed against the coop door, but it wouldn’t budge.
It seemed she’d have to wait until the time was up.
Would they be automatically teleported out, or would something else happen?
Since she still had time, she might as well make use of it. Wandering around the now-empty chicken coop, she examined every corner, hoping to find something useful.
Though it was called a “coop,” it was actually a large open yard with no buildings inside. All the chickens had been free-range.
Now that they were gone, the space looked incredibly empty.
She slowly walked across the yard, not overlooking a single spot, secretly hoping to find something valuable.
Then, her eyes suddenly lit up.
