Lu Huai woke up, first frying an egg, then boiling clear soup noodles in a small pot, adding a few boiled greens, and finally topping it with the egg. The yolk was perfectly cooked, still runny, Niannian’s favorite.
Because he had secretly played a puzzle game on his phone under the covers last night and was caught by Lu Huai, he was only patted twice through the blanket, but acted as if he had suffered a great grievance, turning his head and sleeping with his back to Lu Huai, deliberately not getting up in the morning.
Lu Huai made breakfast before going to call him.
Niannian was about to reach for his phone when he heard the sound, his hand quickly retreating under the covers, his eyes tightly closed.
Lu Huai pretended not to see his trembling eyelashes.
He walked over, his hand reaching into the covers, accurately finding the fluffy tail. He rubbed the tip of the tail, and sure enough, the boy on the bed couldn’t help but open his round eyes and glare at him.
Lu Huai nonchalantly withdrew his hand, “Get up and eat.”
Niannian was clumsy with words. Having been human for half a month, his speech was still disjointed and awkward, “Who let you touch my tail?”
He looked sulky.
Lu Huai said calmly, “My cat, why can’t I touch it?”
Niannian was angry, but he felt he was right. He always positioned himself as “Lu Huai’s cat,” as if Lu Huai could do anything to him.
Lu Huai repeated, “Get up and eat.”
The boy hugged his tail and approached, “Do you know you’re wrong?”
This was a common question Lu Huai asked him.
He had learned it.
Lu Huai raised an eyebrow, “I’m wrong?”
The boy said aggrievedly, “You hit me.”
“Playing on your phone secretly at night, don’t you want your eyes anymore? I think I hit you too lightly.”
Lu Huai didn’t bother arguing. If he dragged it out any longer, he would be late for school, so he simply picked him up and carried him to the bathroom.
Lu Huai was always a cold person, it’s hard to imagine that such a person would be so adept at taking care of others.
He even put toothpaste on the toothbrush and handed it to Niannian’s mouth.
Niannian wasn’t wearing shoes, his white feet stepping on Lu Huai’s slippers. He clung to Lu Huai’s chest, restless and rubbing against him.
Lu Huai knew what he meant but still refused, “You can’t go out like that.”
Niannian’s eyebrows drooped in grievance, “I’ve been home for several days, I want to go find Qiuqiu.”
Qiuqiu was the Teddy bear owned by the old lady next door.
Notoriously mischievous.
His mouth was still full of foam, and several bubbles popped out as he spoke.
Lu Huai handed him the rinse cup and patted his butt after he finished brushing his teeth, “When you can put your tail away, then you can go out.”
Niannian was aggrieved.
Why?
Doesn’t he like his tail?
But he touches it several times every night.
After washing up, Lu Huai dressed him.
Niannian was wearing a large bathrobe, his tail could hang down naturally, but it was inconvenient to change clothes. Lu Huai was taller, so he put on his own shirt, so he didn’t need pants.
“How are you going to go out like this?” Lu Huai buttoned his shirt while lecturing him, “Are you going to go out with bare legs? Let everyone see your tail, and then they’ll catch you.”
Lu Huai had tried to put pants on Niannian, but with the tail tucked in, Niannian said it was uncomfortable. If it was curled up, a large lump would be visible on his butt, like a little pervert.
He couldn’t cut a hole in the pants for the tail.
Niannian didn’t speak again, after a few seconds he whispered, “I’ll try my best.”
It’s his first time being human.
The boy’s low spirits lasted until dinner. Lu Huai was running out of time, so he didn’t eat with him, just turned on the TV and found a cartoon for him to watch.
It was Big Ear Tu Tu.
Niannian was immediately captivated, ignoring Lu Huai’s instructions, only giving perfunctory “uh-huhs”.
Lu Huai frowned, but he really didn’t have time, so he didn’t say much and hurried out with his keys.
Various breakfast carts crowded the entrance of Jin City No. 1 Middle School. Lu Huai hadn’t had time to eat breakfast in the morning, but he only glanced at them, with no intention of buying breakfast.
Since Niannian became human, the expenses have been high for the past half month.
Lu Huai mentally calculated his remaining savings and projected expenses.
He needed to buy new clothes for Niannian, buy some milk and snacks and fruits, maybe a phone, Niannian only had a second-hand phone watch he bought a few days ago, he always looked pitiful waiting for Lu Huai to come back so he could play games on his phone for a while.
Most importantly, he needed to arrange an identity for Niannian.
“Lu Huai!”
As soon as he arrived in class, Chen Fei from the back seat came over with a bag, “I bought cat sticks and canned food for Niannian, can I go see him tonight?”
If this were a novel, Lu Huai would definitely be a cold and aloof academic overachiever, consistently ranking first in his grade, with a cold personality and almost no friends.
Chen Fei was an exception. His family ran a pet hospital, and Lu Huai met him when he took Niannian for a shot.
Chen Fei was very surprised, that someone as cold as Lu Huai would actually keep a pet. Looking at the cat in Lu Huai’s arms, its body round and plump, a fluffy ball from afar, its two paws clinging to Lu Huai’s clothes, its paw pads pink and plump.
Obviously well-cared for.
Chen Fei approached to greet him, “Wow, this is your calico pig, so cute.”
Then he was scratched by Niannian.
It was a case of fighting and becoming friends. Although Niannian always disliked Chen Fei, Chen Fei always bought him snacks and toys, and Chen Fei was also skilled in caring for pets, so Lu Huai added him on WeChat and sometimes consulted him on some issues.
“It’s not convenient lately.”
Chen Fei widened his eyes, “What’s inconvenient? Niannian was so clingy to me last time.”
He was referring to Niannian deliberately rubbing his fur all over his coat.
Lu Huai couldn’t say.
He frowned, “It’s really inconvenient.”
Chen Fei wanted to ask more, but the teacher had already walked in, so he didn’t dare to stay any longer, put the bag on the desk and quickly returned to his seat.
