The boy had a fever, his little face flushed red, and his eyes were red from crying. Lu Huai always couldn’t help but feel soft towards him, unable to muster any anger, only heartache.
“Why wouldn’t I pick you up? Brother was there with you.” Lu Huai wiped away his tears, coaxing him softly, “Stop crying! Didn’t you say your head hurt?”
After much coaxing and persuasion, he finally calmed down. Lu Huai didn’t even dare let him walk, wrapping him up tightly and carrying him out.
They took a taxi to the nearby hospital. It was mostly influenza, so they needed a blood test first.
There were many parents with children nearby. No children weren’t afraid of having blood drawn, and cries echoed around.
The kitten’s face turned pale, clutching Lu Huai’s clothes tightly, his voice trembling, “Brother, let’s go home.”
Lu Huai patted his back, “It’s okay, brother will cover your eyes later, you won’t feel pain if you can’t see it.”
The kitten sobbed, “Isn’t that like trying to deceive oneself?”
Lu Huai was both angry and amused, “So you’ve used those two idioms on me?”
There was no escaping it, and soon it was Niannian’s turn. The kitten had never had blood drawn before, and seeing the rows of blood collection tubes, his mind went blank, and he almost wanted to faint.
Lu Huai helped him roll up his sleeve. The nurse saw his red eyes and smiled, “Why are you so scared at your age? The other kids aren’t crying.”
The kitten was proud, and upon hearing this, he held back his tears, only his eyelashes trembling constantly.
Lu Huai reached out to cover his eyes, “My brother is sensitive to pain, so he’s extra afraid.”
The kitten’s back was straight with tension, feeling the flutter of eyelashes against his palm, it was itchy, making Lu Huai’s heart melt.
The blood was drawn quickly, and Lu Huai quickly pressed the cotton ball to stop the bleeding, holding the kitten up with one hand.
The kitten’s eyes were bloodshot, but he still stubbornly said, “Don’t hold me, I’m not a child.”
Lu Huai chuckled softly, “That’s right, our Niannian didn’t even cry, you’re so amazing.”
The kitten, perhaps feeling embarrassed, or perhaps really hurting, pursed his lips and buried his head in Lu Huai’s shoulder.
The test results would take another hour, and then they could get an IV drip. Lu Huai found an empty seat, sat down holding the kitten, and took his temperature again.
Thirty-eight point seven degrees Celsius.
When Lu Huai was sick before, even with a forty-degree fever, he could take a pill and continue to work, but this wouldn’t work for Niannian. If the kitten was even slightly uncomfortable, Lu Huai felt so heartbroken that he wished he could be the one who was sick.
He lowered his head, pressing against the kitten’s forehead, his voice low, “It’s all brother’s fault, I should have stayed home with you today.”
Niannian felt extremely guilty.
He didn’t dare to tell him about sneaking out for a walk in the wind, only vaguely saying, “It’s okay, brother, I feel better after having blood drawn, or should we go home?”
Lu Huai patted his back, “Don’t talk nonsense.”
The two of them had been busy until now and hadn’t eaten dinner yet. Lu Huai told Niannian to wait for him and went to buy food.
The kitten clung tightly to his sleeve, “Don’t leave me here.”
Lu Huai had no choice but to take him, Niannian, who had just said he wasn’t a child, now wanted to be attached to Lu Huai.
On the way to buy food, he received a call from Zhou Le, asking why he didn’t come over today.
Lu Huai only then remembered the tutoring session. He was completely focused on the sick Niannian and had completely forgotten about it.
He said sorry to the phone, “My brother is sick, I’m at the hospital, I won’t come over tonight, I’ll make up for this lesson on the weekend.”
In the study, Zhou Le clenched his phone, his face gloomy, but his words were gentle, “Your brother is sick? Which hospital, I’ll go and see.”
“No…”
Lu Huai had just refused on the phone when a childish, aggrieved voice came from far away, “You’re talking to someone else while I’m sick, who are you talking to? I want to listen too.”
The next second, the phone hung up.
Zhou Le stared at the dark screen, gritting his teeth, and angrily threw the phone away.
“Look, he hung up.”
Lu Huai showed Niannian the phone, coaxing him, “It’s the parent I tutor, I didn’t go today, I have to tell them.”
Niannian hugged his neck, wiping tears on his clothes, “I heard you, you have to go on the weekend too, you’re not going to accompany me, are you? Then I’ll get sick again.”
Lu Huai patted his butt lightly, “Don’t talk nonsense, what sick and not sick.”
Niannian looked up at him, “Then take me with you.”
Lu Huai pretended to hug him tighter, “Okay, I’ll find a rope to tie you to me, I’ll even take you to the bathroom.”
The kitten mumbled, “That would be great.”

Niannian: Secretly, Brother, I’m planning a 3000 yuan illness
He got porridge and two light dishes from the downstairs cafeteria. Niannian didn’t have much of an appetite because he was sick, and only ate a couple of bites after being coaxed by Lu Huai.
He nestled in Lu Huai’s arms, listless.
Lu Huai touched his head with heartache, “Brother will get you a cup of milk tea.”
Niannian shook his head, “I already drank two cups today, I don’t want any more.”
As soon as he said that, both of them fell silent.
The kitten realized he had spoken out of turn and froze, not daring to make a sound.
After a while, he heard Lu Huai’s faint voice, “Hmm? You went out today?”
The kitten mumbled, “I, I went out to buy milk tea.” He didn’t dare to mention watching a movie.
Even so, he was too timid to look at Lu Huai’s face.
Seeing him like this, Lu Huai couldn’t get angry, so he pinched the kitten’s nape, “I’ll deal with you when you’re better.”
The leftover porridge and vegetables were eaten by Lu Huai. After he finished eating quickly, he took Niannian to get the test results.
After a lot of trouble, they finally got the medicine, and the nurse came with the medicine bottle to give Niannian an injection.
The kitten was unwilling at first, hugging Lu Huai’s neck, begging him to take him home.
Lu Huai pressed him down to sit, leaning close to his ear and whispering a threat, “Don’t force me to take off your pants and beat you here.”
It was a vulgar remark, but it scared the kitten into not daring to move.
His mouth flattened, looking like he wanted to cry but didn’t dare, his lips moved, only daring to whisper, “Brother, don’t hit me.”
“It depends on your performance.”
Niannian was really afraid that Lu Huai would beat him right there. Pain was one thing, but losing face was the main thing.
The kitten had a strong sense of self-esteem.
So when the nurse came to give him the injection, his eyes were filled with tears, and he mumbled softly, “It won’t hurt, don’t cry.”
He was comforting himself.
Lu Huai was both heartbroken and amused. After the nurse left, he couldn’t help but pinch the kitten’s face, “So good, does it hurt? Brother will blow on it for you.”
Niannian’s personality was like a child’s. He could have endured it himself, but hearing Lu Huai’s coaxing, he immediately felt wronged and sad, nodding with tears, “It still hurts a little.”
Lu Huai lowered his head and gently blew on the injection site, not daring to blow too hard, blowing for a full minute or two. As soon as Lu Huai stopped, he heard the kitten’s unhappy hum, “Blow again.”
“…Wait, I’m a little short of breath.”
The flu was very serious recently, and the hospital had no empty beds. It was already late, and the kitten’s eyelids were drooping, so Lu Huai simply took off his jacket and put it on the kitten, letting him sleep in his arms.
“You sleep, brother will watch your medicine.”
The kitten’s eyes were closed, still muttering, “Brother, I want to eat fish.”
“Eat, when our Niannian is better tomorrow, brother will make you a table full of fish, sweetheart, go to sleep.”
The two of them were undoubtedly the most eye-catching in the infusion hall. Others were usually parents holding their children, but this pair was two seventeen or eighteen-year-old boys. The one in the arms had a childish face, looking younger, naturally nestled in the other’s arms and sleeping soundly.
The other one, holding him tightly, occasionally reaching out to check his temperature, or pulling up his jacket that had slipped down, showing no impatience, but occasionally when he lowered his head to look at the person in his arms, his expression was full of heartache.
Niannian slept soundly, and the medicine was changed twice in the middle, he didn’t wake up until dawn, when the last injection was finished, and his temperature was taken again, and the fever had subsided.
Lu Huai then woke him up.
The kitten was still a little dazed, looking around, as if wondering why he wasn’t at home.
Lu Huai whispered, “Wait for brother here, I’ll get some medicine, then we’ll go home.”
The kitten was still wearing Lu Huai’s jacket, and nodded sleepily.
Lu Huai stood up, his foot stumbled and he almost fell, half his body was numb.
But he just frowned, pressed his shoulder, and then went upstairs.
After Lu Huai left, the aunt next to him seemed to finally couldn’t help but speak, “I’ve never seen such a good brother, he held you all night last night.”
The kitten yawned and nodded naturally, “My brother is just very good.”
The aunt’s gossip heart surged, “Aren’t your parents at home? Why is your brother taking care of you?”
The kitten blinked, swinging his legs, “My brother has been taking care of me.”
The aunt sighed, imagining a family drama in her mind, “Then you must remember your brother’s kindness, even parents can’t do this now.”
The kitten seemed to understand, and the aunt talked to him for a long time.
When Lu Huai came back with a bag, he saw the kitten with tears in his eyes. He was startled, quickly went over, and softened his voice, “What’s wrong, baby? Still uncomfortable somewhere?”
Niannian sniffed, “Brother, you’re too good to me, I’ll definitely repay you.”
