My Mr. Prosecutor
pp 14.1

Qiao Anchen fell silent.

He followed Chu Yi quietly, dutifully keeping pace with her steps.

Once they arrived at the mall, Chu Yi was like a fish in water or a bird in the sky, freely soaring in the world of shopping.

The first stop was a brand she often bought from. This women’s clothing store was budget-friendly, offering good value for money. It operated on a self-service basis, so customers could pick out items to try on. As a result, it was quite crowded.

The first thing Qiao Anchen did upon entering was to scan the surroundings. He soon realized in despair that the store had no seating available for customers…

He glanced again at the store’s clothing brand and confirmed he would not be returning.

Chu Yi eagerly moved through rows of clothes, picking up this item and that, holding them up to herself, and asking for Qiao Anchen’s opinion.

Qiao Anchen examined the shirts and sweaters she held, contemplated for a few seconds, and then pointed to the right.

“How about this one?”

“Hmm? Why?” Chu Yi looked at the sweater he pointed to, curious.

Qiao Anchen replied seriously.

“The sweater is warmer.”

“…I meant which one looks better!!”

Qiao Anchen paused, “These two types are completely different.”

“……” Chu Yi no longer expected any constructive advice from him. After pondering for a while, she eventually chose the shirt.

After all, her wardrobe was already full of sweaters.

Qiao Anchen didn’t say anything when he saw Chu Yi’s choice and continued to silently follow her.

Having not shopped for a while, the store was filled with new arrivals. Chu Yi finished her first round of selections with a full armful of clothes and went to queue for the fitting rooms.

Qiao Anchen patiently waited with her, enduring the glances from passing women, and diligently watched the fitting room door where Chu Yi had entered.

After some time, the familiar figure finally appeared. Chu Yi had changed into a shirt and casual pants, tucking in the shirt loosely. Her waist was slim, and her legs were long.

She walked over, twirled around, and excitedly asked Qiao Anchen.

“How does it look? Is it good-looking?”

Qiao Anchen examined her seriously for a few seconds and nodded.

“It looks good.”

Chu Yi, pleased, went to change into the next outfit.

When she came out again, she was wearing a pair of overalls with large pockets in the front. She had paired it with a thin sweatshirt. Qiao Anchen looked at it and commented.

“Not bad.”

Chu Yi, after hearing this, turned around in front of the mirror. She also thought it looked good and proceeded to try on the next piece.

This time, it was a dress, a comfortable homewear piece. Chu Yi planned to wear it at home. Qiao Anchen nodded slightly.

“Okay.”

Afterwards, Qiao Anchen’s evaluations of Chu Yi’s outfits were all similar.

“Can be.”

“Quite good.”

“Not bad.”

Chu Yi went from being enthusiastic at the start to expressionless as time went on.

“Can’t you say a bit more?”

— After Qiao Anchen once again said “okay” for the third time, she couldn’t hold back any longer.

“Where exactly is it ‘okay’?!”

She pressed for details, looking as if she was seeking trouble.

Qiao Anchen was taken aback, then looked at her carefully, furrowing his brows as if engaged in some sort of academic research.

Finally, with a serious expression, he slowly spoke.

“Everything is ‘okay.'”

“………”

Chu Yi gave up.

She finished trying on everything, changed back into her own clothes, and walked out, holding the pile of tried-on clothes, looking displeased.

Qiao Anchen followed behind, asking in his usual manner.

“Shall we buy these? I’ll go pay.”

“No need.” Chu Yi said firmly, “I’ll do it myself.”

She queued at the checkout counter, with four or five customers in front of her. Qiao Anchen waited beside her, looking somewhat at a loss.

The atmosphere was dead silent. Chu Yi pressed her lips together, not wanting to speak, while Qiao Anchen wasn’t sure what to say. After a while, it was finally their turn. The cashier held the barcode scanner and politely asked.

“Do you have a membership card?”

“Yes.” Chu Yi provided her phone number.

She swiped her card, paid, and collected the bags. As they approached the door, Qiao Anchen tentatively spoke and extended his hand.

“Let me carry it.”

Although it was a simple request, Chu Yi felt it came across as cautious and appeasing. She wondered if Qiao Anchen’s behavior had made her nerves go haywire.

Chu Yi glanced at him. With Qiao Anchen’s hand still extended, his lips slightly pursed, he seemed nervous.

Without saying a word, she handed him the bags.

The two continued shopping. Since they were already out, Chu Yi wasn’t going to let a small issue spoil her mood. There were too many beautiful clothes to distract her quickly.

This time, Qiao Anchen seemed to have learned a bit, even though he wasn’t good with words, he tried his best.

“Well… it suits you.”

“Fits well.”

“This color seems a bit dark.”

Chu Yi was satisfied. She felt that Qiao Anchen’s level of effort was already the best she could expect. She didn’t have many other demands.

Truly a humble wife.

She thought to herself, with a hint of sadness welling up in her heart.

They shopped from morning until noon, and Chu Yi had already collected a lot of treasures. She was still full of energy and excitement, while Qiao Anchen, on the other hand, had already stifled several yawns.

He watched as Chu Yi immediately walked into the next store, feeling a bit desperate.

“Wow, their clothes are just too beautiful!”

“Waaah, I haven’t shopped in so long.”

“I love this whole row!”

Chu Yi was unable to decide as she loved everything. Instinctively, she asked Qiao Anchen for his opinion.

“Which of these do you think is better?”

Hearing her call, Qiao Anchen snapped out of his daze, perked up, and carefully looked at the options.

“They all look quite good. Just buy them all,” he said without hesitation and with a sense of urgency.

“After buying, we can go home, right?”

Chu Yi: “………”

“Forget it,” she thought. She decided to spare him and herself from further torment.

“You can go back first. I’ll call Cheng Li to accompany me.”

Qiao Anchen hesitated for a moment but didn’t consider for long.

“Alright then. I’ll take these back for you.”

“Okay.” Chu Yi nodded.

As he prepared to leave, he remembered something and said.

“Be careful on your way back.”

“You too. Drive safely.”

The couple said their polite and courteous goodbyes, and then Qiao Anchen disappeared through the door, and they parted ways.
