Hearing Lin Anbang say he would send her to the police station, a crack finally appeared on Yu Ning’s calm face.
“Send me to the police station?”
“Are you scared now? Too late! Why didn’t you restrain yourself when you released the snake?”
“Before you convict someone, don’t you need to provide evidence? On what grounds do you say the snake was released by me?”
“What more evidence do you need? Qingqing is the evidence!”
“Miss Yu, it’s no use arguing at this point. Obediently go to the police station; you might receive a lenient treatment,” Jia Qingqing said smugly.
She felt she had the upper hand, a guaranteed victory!
“She says I did it, and I say she did it!” Yu Ning remained unhurried, calmly petting her cat.
“The snake was found in her room. Would Qingqing scare herself?”
“If the snake wasn’t released by me, what will you do? Bark like a dog around Mount Sanqing?”
Yu Ning looked at Lin Anbang with eyes sparkling with expectation.
Lin Anbang, provoked by her gaze, almost agreed in a fit of anger.
“Miss Yu, I believe I’ve treated you with respect. How could you do this to Qingqing? Kids squabbling is one thing, but releasing a venomous snake?”
Mrs. Lin wiped her eyes, trying to steer the conversation away from the bet.
Yu Ning shifted her gaze to her.
“So, if the snake wasn’t released by me, would you be willing to bark around Mount Sanqing with Comrade Lin Anbang?”
Mrs. Lin was at a loss for words.
The black cat watched with interest, finding the girl’s straightforwardness a perfect counter to Mrs. Lin.
“You ill-mannered wild girl! I’m your elder, and you dare call me by name!”
“Comrade Lin Anbang, you’re overthinking. I address all unfamiliar people this way; it’s not disrespect or a slight.”
The black cat couldn’t help but smirk. Her explanation only made it worse; the old man’s face turned green.
Yu Ning earnestly answered Lin Anbang’s questions, but her serious demeanor was even more infuriating.
“Stop wasting words! Seize her!”
“Mr. Lin, actually—” Aunt Wu tried to speak up.
“When did it become your place to speak, servant! Stand down!” Lin Anbang ordered Aunt Wu.
“Comrade Lin Anbang, I think it would be better to solve internal issues internally. If this blows up, it might not be good for you,” Yu Ning said.
Each time she called him “Comrade Lin Anbang,” Lin Anbang’s anger grew.
“Call the police immediately! I’ve had enough of you!”
“Oh, alright.” Yu Ning made a gesture of invitation.
Lin Anbang ordered someone to call the police and had the bodyguards block the door, fearing Yu Ning might try to escape.
Yu Ning asked Aunt Wu for a piece of boiled beef. When it was brought over, she fed it to her cat, completely at ease, treating Lin Anbang and the others as if they were air.
Jia Qingqing could hardly contain her joy. She was finally going to get rid of this country bumpkin! Brother Lin would be hers alone!
Lin Anbang felt confident in his victory.
Once the police took this annoying girl away, he’d see who would end up barking around Mount Sanqing!
Unlike their certainty, Mrs. Lin looked at Yu Ning with worry.
The girl was too calm. Was she ignorant due to her youth, or did she have a backup plan?
Soon, the police arrived.
Jia Qingqing rushed over, tearfully recounting how Yu Ning released the snake to bite her, exaggerating the details, and pointed proudly at Yu Ning when she finished.
“Miss Yu, don’t think you can escape the law just because the Lin family doesn’t have surveillance. I’m a witness. Releasing a snake is attempted murder; you could be imprisoned for ten years or more!”
Jia Qingqing looked at her with triumph.
Yu Ning slowly raised her head and said something that shattered Jia Qingqing’s confidence.
“Who told you the Lin family doesn’t have surveillance?”
“What?!” Jia Qingqing was panicked.
Lin Anbang and Mrs. Lin were also stunned, looking at Aunt Wu in unison.
“The young master’s floor has always had surveillance. I wanted to mention it earlier, but Mr. Lin didn’t give me a chance to speak.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about the surveillance?” Lin Anbang felt a bit humiliated.
As the head of the household, he felt that the servants didn’t respect him and would make him a laughingstock in front of outsiders.
These disrespectful servants only recognized his son, not him!
However, Lin Anbang was only concerned about his pride. He didn’t think the surveillance would affect the case.
“So, there is surveillance! Yu Ning, you wretch! You did it on purpose!” Jia Qingqing forgot her delicate act, lunging at Yu Ning to scratch her face.
Yu Ning grabbed her wrist and flipped her over her shoulder.
The police officers were stunned; this girl had some serious skills.
“You wretch! You’re trying to ruin me!” Jia Qingqing screamed from the floor.
“You’re the one not thinking—same goes for you two.” Yu Ning’s gaze fell on Lin Anbang and his wife.
“President Lin’s corridor shelves are filled with priceless antiques. How could there not be surveillance? He has managed the Lin family so well, certainly better than Comrade Lin Anbang. Comrade Lin Anbang, I’m not saying you’re brainless, just that President Lin is more capable.”
Yu Ning’s polite explanation only made things worse, leaving Lin Anbang fuming.
“Since there is surveillance, please bring it out for us to view,” a police officer said.
“No! You can’t!” Jia Qingqing, now panicked, climbed off the floor.
Yu Ning pulled out her phone. “I recorded the screen yesterday.”
Seeing all the antiques on the shelves, Yu Ning had guessed there would be hidden surveillance. She asked Aunt Wu to retrieve it and recorded it just in case.
It was a simple matter to figure out, yet so many people failed to use their brains.
Jia Qingqing tried to snatch the phone, but it was too late.
Yu Ning had only recorded a few seconds, but it was enough to clearly show Jia Qingqing releasing the snake.
“Miss, you need to come with us to the station for further investigation,” the police officer said to Jia Qingqing after viewing the footage.
“I won’t go! It’s her! She made me do it! Uncle Lin, save me!” Jia Qingqing pleaded with Lin Anbang.
“Well, this… ahem, it’s just kids fooling around, let it go,” Lin Anbang said, trying to plead on her behalf.
“The green pit viper is a protected species. Capturing or keeping one without permission is illegal. Releasing a venomous snake, while it may not result in a ten-year sentence as she claimed, constitutes a crime of endangering public safety and the release of dangerous substances.”
Yu Ning’s professional explanation earned approving looks from the police.
“Miss Yu, are you studying law?”
“Yes, I majored in political science for my bachelor’s and also have a law degree, and my master’s is in the same field.” That’s how she became a political science teacher, a perfect match for her professional background.
“She’s lying! She’s just a charlatan! How could she have graduated from university at 20? She’s a fraud, and the video is fake too!”
Jia Qingqing screamed hysterically.
Suddenly, a police officer pointed at Yu Ning.
“I thought you looked familiar—aren’t you that…!!”
