Godfather of Culinary | Chapter 2 – A Spoonful Moment

“Dad, I’m so full!”

Nannan rubbed her round little belly, her face brimming with happiness.

“Take a break! I’ll send you to school later.”

Seeing her satisfied and happy smile, Qin Feng felt a sense of comfort in his heart. It wasn’t just about making his daughter happy as a father, but also as a chef—there was no greater accomplishment than bringing joy through his cooking.

Half an hour later, Qin Feng drove Nannan to kindergarten.

When they arrived at the entrance, he saw that many parents were already gathered to drop off their children. This school was one of Jianghai City’s famous “celebrity” kindergartens, where the students were either the children of officials or the daughters of wealthy elites.

“Alright, sweetheart, off you go!”

Qin Feng crouched down and helped Nannan put on her backpack.

“Dad, how about you make something delicious for dinner tonight? Your cooking is so yummy!”

Nannan tilted her head, her big watery eyes gleaming, and even licked her lips, clearly still reminiscing about the sweet and sour cabbage from breakfast.

“Don’t worry. Study well, and I’ll make ‘Coke Chicken Wings’ for you tonight.”

Qin Feng playfully pinched her chubby cheeks—so soft and irresistible.

The moment she heard “Coke Chicken Wings,” Nannan’s eyes widened with excitement. She didn’t know what it was, but the name alone sounded absolutely delicious.

Watching his daughter hop and skip her way into school, Qin Feng felt the weight on his shoulders grow heavier. He not only had to take good care of his daughter but also win back his wife and turn her heart around. At the same time, he had to focus on his restaurant plans. The pressure was definitely piling up!

As he stood there, he noticed that several people nearby were whispering and casting glances his way.

“So that’s the guy who lives off his wife, huh? Doesn’t really look the part though.”

“You can’t judge a book by its cover. He hasn’t worked in over a year and relies entirely on his wife to support him.”

“Isn’t his wife that big-time celebrity, Xu Fei? Tch, nothing clean ever comes out of showbiz. She’s probably been with plenty of men behind his back. And he just spends her money without a care—what a useless man.”

“Exactly! I mean, Xu Fei is drop-dead gorgeous. How did she even end up marrying such a loser?”

Hearing these comments, Qin Feng felt a surge of anger. However, he knew this was the impression the previous “Qin Feng” had left on others. His job now was to change everyone’s opinion of him.

He drove to the city center, where he had found an available storefront for rent online. He decided to check it out.

Following the address, Qin Feng arrived at the location. The shop was tucked away in a narrow alley, with a large restaurant right at the alley’s entrance. The spot didn’t seem ideal, but since he was already here, he decided to take a look.

The shop itself was even more disappointing. It was tiny—barely over sixty square meters, just enough to squeeze in five or six tables. The floor was littered with trash and old takeout containers, evidence that the previous tenant had also run a restaurant.

“Xiao Qin, right? Hi, just call me Sister Zhang,” said a plump woman in her thirties as she approached, introducing herself.

“Sister Zhang, how much is the rent for this place?” Qin Feng asked casually.

Zhang Lanfang responded straightforwardly, “Xiao Qin, if you’re serious about renting, it’s 10,000 yuan a month. You can ask around—this is Jianghai City’s most bustling area. My rate is already the lowest. The restaurant next door? Their rent is nearly double!”

“Sister Zhang, it’s true this area is busy, but your shop is tucked deep in this alley. It’s inconvenient for any kind of business, and even for living, the noise here would make it hard to rent out.”

Qin Feng wasn’t about to fall for her sales pitch. Xu Fei gave him and Nannan a monthly allowance of 50,000 yuan, most of which was spent on Nannan. At the end of each month, he barely had any savings. After a year, he’d managed to scrape together just 20,000 yuan, his entire budget for starting the restaurant. Every penny counted.

Zhang Lanfang had planned to swindle this bookish-looking young man, but his sharp remarks left her momentarily stunned. She knew this shop was tough to rent out. The last tenant had broken their lease early, unwilling to stay even a day longer.

She sighed and asked, “Alright, how much are you willing to pay per month?”

“1,000 yuan,” Qin Feng said firmly. That would leave him enough to cover kitchenware, ingredients, and refurbishing the shop.

“1,000? Forget it!” Zhang Lanfang turned to leave but hesitated. On second thought, she realized it was better to earn something than nothing. Even scraps were meat, after all. She finally agreed.

They signed a one-year lease, and Qin Feng handed over 12,000 yuan in rent. With the keys in hand, he surveyed the mess inside and took a deep breath before rolling up his sleeves.

By evening, the shop looked completely transformed. Qin Feng had bought some basic tables, chairs, and utensils, giving the place a proper restaurant vibe.

*Ding-ling-ling*

His phone suddenly rang. Without checking the caller ID, he answered, only to hear an angry voice.

“Qin Feng! Do you know what time it is? Have you forgotten to pick up your daughter?”

“I’m heading there now.”

Seeing that the caller was Xu Fei, Qin Feng realized it was already 5 PM—time to pick up Nannan from school. Caught up in his work, he had completely lost track of time.

“Don’t bother. I’ve already picked her up. She’ll stay with me for two days. Come get her on Sunday night,” Xu Fei said.

Before he could respond, Nannan’s voice chimed in from the background, “Daddy! I’m at Mommy’s today. You have to miss me, okay?”

“Of course, sweetheart. Be good and listen to Mommy, alright? No mischief!”

“I will! Nannan promises to be good!”

Hearing her daughter’s obedient tone, Xu Fei felt a flicker of comfort. Despite her almost non-existent marriage with Qin Feng, having such an adorable daughter made it all worthwhile.

That night, Qin Feng returned home and ordered a batch of seasonings online, set to arrive the next morning. With some fresh ingredients, he planned to open the restaurant for lunch.

Before going to bed, he mulled over a name for the restaurant. As a world-class chef in his previous life, it had to be something high-end—not a generic name like “Xiao Qin’s Diner.” It needed class and sophistication.

“‘A Spoonful Moment’—it’ll be called ‘A Spoonful Moment’. Life’s flavors are all in the heart, and culinary flavors lie within a single spoon.”

The phrase echoed in his mind, and he knew he had found the perfect name.
