Celibate Monk Prince? Then who’s the clingy little crybaby in her arms?
Chapter 24: The Curtain Rises at Last

Everyone who recognized the arriving guests was stunned.
The retired chancellor of Jing University and the director of the Jing City Public Security Bureau—what were they doing here?

Though the Han family was indeed one of the top-tier families, they’d always kept a low profile, never mingling much in society circles.

The old chancellor had served for nearly forty years, an educator whose legacy spanned generations. Even those who hadn’t studied at Jing University had heard of his reputation.
But no one in the Luo family—aside from the patriarch himself—had ever attended Jing University. All the Luo sons had graduated from other elite institutions. So how had the Luo family managed to invite him?

Luo Yunyan caught sight of the two men and let out a soft, helpless chuckle.
With a swift stride, she headed toward them.

She moved so quickly that the people nearby didn’t have time to stop her.
Only Gu Shilin remained still, his eyes locked on her retreating figure.

The other guests looked at her as if she were insane.
What the hell is she doing?
Even if you’re trying to show off, this isn’t the time. That’s the police commissioner standing next to him!
You think you can just barge in like that? Do you even know them?

Commissioner Han (to himself): Thanks for asking; I wouldn’t dare. She’s basically my ancestor.

And then their jaws hit the floor.

Instead of stopping her, Commissioner Han stepped aside—and Luo Yunyan naturally slipped her arm around the old chancellor’s other arm.
The three of them walked together, chatting and laughing like old friends.

“Why’d you really come in person?” Luo Yunyan asked with a feigned glare at the old chancellor.

Chancellor Han snorted. “If I hadn’t come, when would I ever get to see you again? You gave that rascal an invitation and didn’t give me one?”

Commissioner Han: So what you’re saying is, she’s your real kid, huh? ^_^

“I prepared one for you too,” Luo Yunyan replied helplessly. “Didn’t I tell you not to come? You’ll get mobbed by your students the second they recognize you.”

“Hmph. He was the one who gave it to me. No sincerity at all!” The old man huffed.
“What? You don’t want me here that badly? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re planning!”

Luo Yunyan sighed. “Then if you know, why…”

“Because I came to back you up!” Chancellor Han said firmly. “If the Luo family blames you for anything, just come home with me. Be my granddaughter! Our Han family might not be as rich as the Luo family, but I swear you’ll be treated like royalty. I’ve got students in every industry—who’s going to dare touch you?”

Commissioner Han: YES! Super Jackpot!

Luo Yunyan: …Excuse me, sir? My entire family tree is going to collapse at this rate.

“Well then,” Luo Yunyan said dryly, jerking her chin toward the fast-approaching Old Master Luo, “Why don’t you go talk to my grandfather?”

Chancellor Han slapped Commissioner Han on the back. “Hah! Like I’d be afraid!”

“Grandpa, slow down, he’s not going to run away,” Luo Yunyan said gently as her grandfather approached.

Old Master Luo lightly tapped her forehead. “Mind your manners.”

Chancellor Han waved it off with a grin. “No worries, no worries. She’s always been like this with me.”

Which sounded suspiciously like he was bragging.

Old Master Luo shook hands with him. “Han Chancellor, my granddaughter can be a bit unruly. I hope you don’t mind.”

“On the contrary. I love her spirit. I came today because I was worried and wanted to back her up.”
Chancellor Han looked him in the eye.

Old Master Luo met his gaze, unwavering. “There’s no need to worry. Every member of our family treasures her more than anything. We’ll always stand behind her.”

The two elders stared at each other for a long moment.

Then, as if reaching a mutual understanding, they both chuckled and released their handshake.

“In that case, I’m honored to impose on your hospitality.”

“Not at all. Let me take you over—some of my old friends are here.”
Old Master Luo gave Luo Yunyan a reassuring look as he gestured.

Chancellor Han nodded. “Wonderful. Yunyan, I’ll be off for now.”

“Sure, go ahead,” Luo Yunyan said with a wry smile.
These two old foxes had nearly come to blows just moments ago, and now they were thick as thieves?

As they walked away, Commissioner Han sidled up to her sneakily.
“I’ve got the arrest warrants in my pocket. Plainclothes officers are stationed outside. When do we move?”

Luo Yunyan shot him a sideways look. “For a police chief, you’re way too shady. Calm down. Call them in to eat first.”

“What? No need, we’re on duty—”

“Tch. It’s Saturday. And you’ve got no shame about making people work overtime?” she scoffed.
“Let them in. They’re in plainclothes anyway—who’s going to notice?”

Commissioner Han rolled his eyes and pulled out his phone.
“You really are my ancestor.”

“I’d like to be,” she muttered. “But I doubt your dad would approve. Anyway, you go enjoy yourself. The real show’s just about to start.”

With a glance toward the crowd, she caught Jiang Yining’s eye. They exchanged a meaningful look.

Then she turned and walked back toward Luo Yunzhe and Gu Shilin.

“Hey!” Commissioner Han called after her, but she was already gone.
He turned away with a sigh and went to coordinate with his team.

The plainclothes officers entered, glancing at one another.
“…Boss said we’re here to arrest people, right? Why does it feel like we’re crashing a party?”

“Who cares? Let’s eat first.”

“I’d happily do overtime like this every week.”

Just earlier, the Luo brothers had been about to follow Luo Yunyan, but seeing that she was fine, they relaxed and dispersed.
Only Luo Yunzhe and Gu Shilin remained in place, chatting.

But when Luo Yunyan returned, both of their expressions softened at once.

“Since when did our Yunyan get so chummy with Jing University’s former chancellor?”
Luo Yunzhe reached out and gently patted her head.

Luo Yunyan shrugged. “I helped Commissioner Han with something abroad. Ended up bonding with his dad instead. He even tried to recruit me to teach at Jing University.”

Across the room, Jiang Yining nudged Aiweisi. He nodded and moved to a more visible spot in the crowd.

Song Hao spotted him immediately—and his eyes lit up.

What luck, running into Aiweisi here!

Maybe there was still a chance to salvage their business deal.

Before heading over, he turned to Song Huanhuan.
“Luo Missy’s alone. Go make your move.”

“Got it, Dad.”
She lowered her gaze, masking the hatred in her eyes.

That bitch. How does she get everything? Status, connections—even all the top heirs follow her around like lovesick puppies.
If I were the real Luo heiress, all of this would be mine.

No matter. As long as I win over the Luo family’s eldest son, I’ll own the Luo family from the inside out.

With her expression once again soft and sweet—an innocent little white flower—Song Huanhuan walked gracefully toward Luo Yunyan.

Seeing her approach, Luo Yunyan’s lips curved into a cold smile.

The curtain was finally rising. The actress had arrived.
