After hanging up the video call, Yu Ning opened the wardrobe door.
All she saw was a furry figure, turned away from her.
“Are you mad?” Yu Ning reached out to pet his head.
The black cat slid sideways, stubbornly keeping its back to her.
He was being locked up because of that freeloader pretty boy? No way he was letting this go!
Seeing that the black cat was truly angry, Yu Ning couldn’t help but laugh.
How could she have such a cute cat that even had a temper?
She grabbed him by the neck and pulled him into her arms.
“Don’t be mad, it was a special situation. Third Brother has a bit of a temper, and it would be a hassle if I upset him.”
“Meow!!!” That flashy boy? What kind of man makes a girl bend over backward for him?
“Once this is all done, I’ll take you to meet the Third Brother. He’s got a special connection with animals, you’ll like him.”
“Meow!” Like that freeloader? Ha! His fists would like him more, after he gave that guy a bloody face!
The black cat gave a bloodthirsty grin.
His fists were itching for a fight. Once he got back into his body, the first thing he’d do was beat that pretty boy senseless.
He already thought of Yu Ning as his little sister, and this punk dared to con his sister out of her money and affection—unforgivable.
However, to Yu Ning, that fierce grin just looked adorable.
“I feel like you’re especially spiritual, not like a normal animal. When we meet the Third Brother, I’ll have his spirit guides check you out to see if you have any lingering energy.”
Spirit guides? The black cat froze for a moment.
“Meow?” So that flashy boy toy… is a *Shaman*?
The Lin family’s housekeeper, Mrs. Wu, believed in this stuff, so Lin Zheng knew a bit about it.
Shamanism originated from northern China, but most of the shamans around these days were frauds.
Great, the flashy boy just added ‘scam artist’ to his list of crimes. Fine, let him wait—he’d get a good beating. The black cat licked his back teeth, plotting revenge.
The next day, Yu Ning was woken by a phone call. Groggy, she answered it.
“Morning, Officer Xia.”
“It’s already almost 1 p.m.! Hardly morning!”
Xia An’s voice sounded excited.
“Daoist Yu, your prediction was spot on! It really was him!”
“I’m not a Daoist yet, just call me Yu Ning. Did you catch him?”
“Absolutely! Hahaha!”
Xi’an was in high spirits, completely different from yesterday.
“How did you manage to steal Young Master Zhao’s DNA?”
“How did you know I stole it?! You even predicted that?”
“I guessed.” Such a small matter didn’t require wasting spiritual energy—she could figure it out with logic.
“You guessed right! I disguised myself as a car washer early this morning and collected some of his hair from his car. It was him! The arrest warrant’s already been issued, you’ve done a great service!”
“You caught him, not me. It has nothing to do with me.”
“I was up all night drinking five espressos, so while I’m still buzzing, hurry up and meet me so we can settle what we agreed on yesterday.”
Ten minutes later, Yu Ning arrived at the police station on time.
Xi’an was waiting for her at the door, his enthusiasm making him seem like a different person from yesterday.
“Yu Ning, the moment I saw you, I felt like we were family—just like my little sister! Do you need an older brother?”
Yu Ning glanced at him and replied flatly, “You’re trying to get me to help you fix your marriage crisis, aren’t you?”
“It’s mainly for solving the case!” Xia An replied righteously, then awkwardly laughed. “Of course, a little help with my marriage wouldn’t hurt.”
When he was disguised as a car washer waiting for Young Master Zhao, he had taken a break to call his wife and ask why she wanted a divorce.
In response, his wife cursed him out, telling him to die with his mistress and stop bothering her.
Xia An had been utterly shocked, realizing that Yu Ning had been right! His wife really thought he was cheating!
After hearing this, Yu Ning asked curiously, “So what did you say to her?”
“I was just about to explain when Young Master Zhao showed up, so I told her I was busy and hung up—Sis Ning, how do I explain this to her?”
Xia An, thick-skinned as ever, shamelessly clung to Yu Ning, now firmly determined to make her his “sister” after realizing how accurate her predictions were.
“Uh…” Yu Ning was stunned into silence by his clumsy behavior, unsure how to respond.
The black cat, peeking from Yu Ning’s pocket, gave Xia An a scornful look. Is this guy dumb?!
Hanging up when your wife suspects you of cheating is practically an admission of guilt!
“Well, say something,” Xia An urged.
“Maybe… you should just stop bothering her. Perhaps you’re more suited to spending your life with your work?”
“!!!” Xia An clutched his heart in mock pain. Sis Ning, that’s too harsh! And that cat in your arms—what kind of look is that? Is it mocking me?
“You said you’d help save my marriage!”
“Well, I didn’t know you’d make things so difficult for yourself. Now your marriage palace is emitting black energy. It wasn’t like this yesterday. Looks like you really upset your wife.”
“What do I do? I don’t even know why she’s so mad—I’ve always been busy with work, and it’s not like she didn’t know that.”
Yu Ning remained silent.
Some people are truly single by sheer skill.
They soon arrived at a meeting room, where Xia An closed the door and hung up a “Do Not Disturb” sign.
Once inside, he switched to business mode, dropping all talk of his personal life, ready for Yu Ning to calculate the murderer from yesterday.
Watching him, Yu Ning felt a surge of admiration.
He was undoubtedly a good cop, full of righteousness.
But being a dedicated policeman didn’t necessarily make him a good husband. It must be tough to be married to him.
Xia An opened his laptop and pulled up the information on the man Yu Ning had flagged in the surveillance photo.
“I figured you might need his birth details, so I pulled his file from the database. He has no prior criminal record.”
“Thanks. Give me a moment.”
Yu Ning took out some paper and began calculating the man’s birth chart.
It had taken a lot of effort to find Young Master Zhao because she had so little information, forcing her to rely on divination. But this time, she could calculate everything directly from the birth chart and face reading—it was much easier.
Once she finished calculating the culprit’s birth chart, Yu Ning asked Xia An for the birth details of all the detectives in the serious crimes unit. He willingly handed them over.
This morning, the bureau chief had briefed Xia An on Yu Ning’s background, explaining that her master was a deeply patriotic figure, and their whole sect had pure intentions. There was no need to worry about her using any dark magic to deceive them.
After calculating the detectives’ charts, Yu Ning looked up at Xia An.
“I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”
“The good news?”
“The person who catches him… is still you.”
After comparing all the birth charts, it turned out that Xia An was the one destined to catch the killer.
Despite his low emotional intelligence, Xia An was clearly an excellent policeman—a nemesis to criminals, filled with righteousness.
“Hahaha! It’s me! I’m going to investigate him right away!”
Hearing that he was destined to catch the bad guy, Xia An’s spirits soared again.
“Aren’t you going to ask what the bad news is?”
“Oh, right! What’s the bad news?” Xia An had already been thinking about how to catch the criminal, forgetting that there was bad news too.
*In the last chapter, we learned that Third Brother is a shaman. Yu Ning sought his help to bribe an underworld agent, and all the things he requested were actually paper effigies to be burned. Meanwhile, Blackie completely misunderstood everything—oops, haha!*
