Chapter 35: My Real Brother!
A meeting was in progress when a knock echoed through the conference room.
The door swung open, revealing a figure silhouetted against the light.
The man was clad in a long black suit, his tall, lean frame exuding an aura of authority. His sharp features, sculpted with a striking combination of angles and depth, made him look like a movie star.
From the crowd below, a voice exclaimed, “Damn!” This sparked a flurry of excited whispers.
“Holy crap! He’s so handsome!”
“Swoon! My heart is racing!”
“Three minutes, I need all the information about this man!”
Amidst the stares, the man strode towards the front, taking a seat beside Qiao Shuyi.
Meeting Sheng Tang’s gaze, he twitched his lips, “Continue, don’t mind me.”
Sheng Tang nodded and resumed speaking, outlining her vision for Shengxing’s future development.
Qiao Shuyi looked at the man beside her, offering a small smile and a quiet greeting, “Brother Sheng Yu.”
He acknowledged her with a polite, distant nod, his demeanor formal and businesslike.
The meeting continued.
Some time later, Qiao Shuyi felt a hand gently grasp hers under the table, the fingers beginning to play with her hand.
She jolted, staring at the man beside her in disbelief.
He, however, seemed oblivious, listening intently to Sheng Tang’s speech, his expression devoid of any emotion.
As if the hand holding hers wasn’t his.
She tried to pull her hand away, but the man, as if sensing her intentions, tightened his grip.
Fearing that Sheng Tang might notice, Qiao Shuyi didn’t dare struggle too much and could only let him hold her hand.
He curled his lips into a “scheme successful” smile, which only fueled her anger.
Sheng Tang, engrossed in the meeting, remained oblivious to everything happening, but some of the staff noticed something amiss.
Fang Yuxin: “Sister Qiao… I mean, CEO Qiao, why does your face seem a little red?”
Zhao Jiajia: “Duh! Such a handsome guy sitting next to you, wouldn’t you blush?”
Fang Yuxin: “True… But who is this man anyway? Why didn’t Mr. Sheng introduce him?”
Chen Yue: “Don’t you think he looks a bit like Mr. Sheng? Especially the nose, both are so sharp.”
Zhao Jiajia: “Now that you mention it, there is a resemblance. Could it be… the legendary couple’s look?!”
Chen Yue: “…”
Is there a possibility that she’s talking about family?
…
The meeting finally concluded around five o’clock.
As soon as it ended, the man finally released her hand. Qiao Shuyi, relieved, took advantage of the distraction to give him a withering glare.
After the meeting, Qiao Shuyi accompanied Sheng Tang and Sheng Yu back to the office.
“Brother, what are your thoughts on what I just presented?” Sheng Tang asked with a smile, her eyes fixed on the man seated on the sofa.
He frowned, flipping through the project proposal in his hand, “What’s this short drama department you mentioned?”
“You mean this?” Sheng Tang chuckled, “It’s Qiao Qiao’s idea.”
The man’s gaze instinctively fell upon Qiao Shuyi on the opposite sofa.
Meeting his gaze, Qiao Shuyi quickly nodded, “Yes, it’s my idea.”
“You see, Shengxing has always focused on self-media, primarily cultivating anchors and influencers. But this market is becoming saturated, making it difficult to achieve significant growth.
So, Tangtang and I decided to develop new businesses, ideally building upon Shengxing’s existing foundation. Tangtang’s initial thought was to venture into the film and television industry, but that requires substantial investment and carries high risk. Shengxing doesn’t have enough funds to launch such an endeavor, so I wanted something more secure.”
“So, your idea is to do these short dramas?” Sheng Yu nodded thoughtfully, “Can you explain what you mean by ‘short drama’?”
“Short dramas are different from regular TV series. Each episode is only a few minutes long, with a fast-paced plot and quick-witted dialogue, perfect for today’s fast-paced lifestyle. Plus, they have lower production costs, shorter production times, and faster returns on investment.”
In Qiao Shuyi’s memory, short dramas had already started appearing in the market this year, but they were limited in number and quality, with no one really believing in their potential.
Many considered them cheesy and cringeworthy, not even comparable to TV series.
Little did they know, this was just the beginning.
In the years to come, the short drama industry would flourish, with numerous media and film companies raking in huge profits from this format.
“How do you plan to monetize it?”
“Primarily through audience paid subscriptions. Later, we can also incorporate advertising like regular TV series to generate revenue.”
After Qiao Shuyi finished speaking, Sheng Yu remained silent for a while.
Finally, he chuckled, “You’re quite the thinker.”
“Brother, from your investment perspective, what do you think of Qiao Qiao’s idea? Do you think it’s viable?”
“I don’t know much about the film and television industry. You can ask Ji Xingchuan, he’s more familiar with this area.”
Sheng Tang rolled her eyes, “I don’t want to bother him.”
Sheng Yu closed the project proposal and stood up, “If you want to try it, go ahead.”
“So, will Mr. Sheng invest in us? We’ll share the profits with you once we make money.” Sheng Tang asked with a mischievous grin.
Sheng Yu glanced at her, “You two haven’t even started making money yet, and you’re already promising me a piece of the pie?”
Qiao Shuyi blushed, feeling embarrassed.
“How much do you need?”
“Not much.” Sheng Tang grinned, holding up two fingers, “Twenty million.”
Sheng Yu gave her a sidelong glance, “Send the company account details to my phone, I’ll transfer the money later.”
“Alright!” Sheng Tang was instantly overjoyed, “Brother, you’re my real brother!”
“It’s getting late, I have things to attend to at Shengshi, I’m leaving.”
“Okay, okay, go, go.” Sheng Tang waved her hand, showing no signs of wanting him to stay.
“Aren’t you going to see me off?”
“You know the way, go ahead. I have a lot to do, no time.”
“Since that’s the case…”
Sheng Yu paused, his gaze falling on someone on the sofa, “Qiao Qiao, you go send me off. I want to talk to you about the short drama.”
“Me…? ” Qiao Shuyi raised her head abruptly, her eyes filled with surprise.
“Yes.”
Qiao Shuyi didn’t say anything, staring intently into his eyes.
She couldn’t help but feel that he was up to something.
“Alright, Qiao Qiao, go send him off.” Sheng Tang was busy with her work and didn’t even look up.
“…Okay.”
Qiao Shuyi reluctantly stood up, “Mr. Sheng, this way please.”
Sheng Yu noticed her displeasure and a smile played on his lips.
