Chapter 6: Next Month’s Allowance Cut in Half
Sheng Yu is the only person in the world who can subdue Sheng Tang.
As the old saying goes: “An elder brother is like a father.”
These four words are perfectly embodied in the relationship between the Sheng siblings.
Eight years ago, a car accident took the lives of Sheng Yu and Sheng Tang’s parents, leaving the Shengshi Group in a precarious state, becoming a prey for the Sheng family’s side branches to seize.
In this situation, Sheng Yu, who was only twenty years old, overcame all obstacles and ascended to the position of CEO of Shengshi, suppressing those who were eyeing the company with his decisive actions.
Initially, no one had faith in him. Some even made bold pronouncements: “Shengshi Group will be finished within three years.”
However, eight years have passed, and Shengshi not only hasn’t collapsed, but has flourished, becoming an unattainable goal for others.
Sheng Yu has gradually become a legendary figure, praised by everyone, with countless young ladies vying for his attention.
As the only daughter of Shengshi Group, Sheng Tang has always been a force to be reckoned with in the capital city, feared by all.
Anyone who displeases this young lady will face dire consequences.
But thankfully, there are two people who can keep her in check.
One is Qiao Shuyi.
As a longtime best friend, her position in Sheng Tang’s heart is unmatched. Sheng Tang naturally listens to her words.
The other is her elder brother, Sheng Yu, who is six years older than her.
With just a glance from Sheng Yu, Sheng Tang can instantly transform into a well-behaved and obedient little sister.
She wouldn’t dare to hit anyone, or even utter a single swear word.
Once Sheng Yu is out of the capital, it’s “the monkey becomes king when the tiger is away.”
This time, Sheng Yu went on a business trip abroad, originally scheduled to return today.
That’s why Sheng Tang dared to be so reckless last night, dragging Qiao Shuyi to the bar for a night of indulgence, ending up completely drunk.
But unexpectedly, Sheng Yu returned a day earlier!
Oh, crap!
Sheng Tang hurriedly changed her clothes. She suddenly turned to Qiao Shuyi, thinking of something: “Qiao Qiao, did my brother see me last night?”
“Of course, how else do you think I got you back to your room last night?” Qiao Shuyi replied calmly as she applied makeup.
“…”
Sheng Tang’s heart sank instantly.
“By the way, what time is it?”
“It’s ten thirty.”
Hearing this, Sheng Tang secretly sighed in relief, comforting herself: “Ten thirty? According to my brother’s workaholic nature, he should be at the company by now.”
It was almost eleven o’clock when the two, dressed neatly, slowly descended the stairs.
Seeing the quiet and empty scene downstairs, Sheng Tang yawned and said with a smile: “I knew it, at this time, my brother…”
Before Sheng Tang could finish her sentence, Qiao Shuyi pulled her sleeve, gesturing towards the living room.
Sheng Tang, confused, looked in that direction, and immediately put on a quick performance of changing her expression, “Brother…”
The man sitting on the sofa, flipping through a financial magazine, was none other than Sheng Yu.
Sheng Tang squeezed out a forced smile: “Brother, why aren’t you at the company?”
Sheng Yu closed the magazine, stood up, and said in a calm voice: “I just got back from a business trip late last night. Even a horse needs to rest.”
As he spoke, his gaze swept past Sheng Tang, landing on the person behind her.
The moment their eyes met, Qiao Shuyi’s mind was flooded with images of the previous night.
The late night, the fine wine, the dim lights, and… the cautious exploration and pulling between a man and a woman.
Her cheeks flushed slightly.
After a while, she spoke softly: “Sheng Yu, good morning.”
“Good morning.”
Sheng Yu nodded slightly, his gaze sweeping across her face before he walked towards the dining room.
“Dinner is ready.”
A series of exquisite dishes were brought to the table by the servants. Sheng Tang quickly pulled Qiao Shuyi to sit opposite Sheng Yu.
“Where did you go drinking last night?”
While eating, Sheng Yu suddenly asked, out of the blue.
Hearing this, Sheng Tang, who was sipping soup, widened her eyes, almost choking on the food. She coughed violently.
“Cough… No…”
Sheng Yu shot her a sharp look, scaring Sheng Tang into changing her words: “Brother, listen to my defense… I mean, listen to my explanation.”
Sheng Yu remained silent, calmly watching her, his eyes seeming to say: “You’re at your wit’s end.”
Qiao Shuyi lowered her head, eating much slower, trying to minimize her presence.
As expected of the head of the Sheng family, his aura was intimidating…
“It’s like this, last night was Qiao Qiao’s engagement party, right? As her best friend, I had to attend, of course! I was also representing our Sheng family!”
Qiao Shuyi: “…”
She had finally managed to lower her presence!
“And then?” Sheng Yu raised his eyes to look at her, his tone unwavering.
“Speaking of which, I’m so angry!”
Sheng Tang slammed her hand on the table, looking indignant: “You should have heard about Qiao Qiao’s fiancé, the heir of the Gu family. He actually ran away from the engagement!”
“What a loser! Qiao Qiao is lucky to have him, but he’s so ungrateful, he even dared to run away…”
Sheng Tang became increasingly agitated. Seeing that she was about to “let loose,” Qiao Shuyi quickly tugged at her sleeve from under the table.
Sheng Tang’s loud voice abruptly stopped. She coughed lightly, and her voice softened: “That’s basically what happened. The engagement was canceled, but it’s actually a good thing for Qiao Qiao. She recognized a scumbag, isn’t that worth celebrating?”
Hearing this, the man opposite her raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement flashing in his dark eyes.
“So, that’s your reason for getting drunk last night?”
“Well, not exactly drunk… Okay, I was wrong, brother.”
She was basically the queen of admitting defeat.
“Your allowance for next month will be cut in half.”
“No!”
Sheng Yu ignored her cries and calmly continued eating.
Qiao Shuyi felt a pang of sympathy: “Sheng Yu, I was the one who suggested celebrating.”
Sheng Tang was almost moved to tears: “My dear Qiao Qiao…”
“Then why weren’t you drunk?”
“Uh…”
Qiao Shuyi gave Sheng Tang a helpless look: “Dear, I tried my best.”
Sheng Tang: ╥﹏╥
Sheng Yu pursed his lips, a flicker of a smile crossing his eyes.
As they neared the end of their meal, Qiao Shuyi’s phone on the table suddenly rang.
She picked up the phone and saw that it was a call from her mother, Tang Jingwan.
Qiao Shuyi instantly guessed what it was about and answered the phone calmly: “Mom?”
