Chapter 73: Baby, I Like You So Much
“Hey, it’s broad daylight, and there are people everywhere. Why don’t you two wait until you get home before hugging?” Ji Xingchuan chuckled, his voice full of teasing and banter.
Sheng Tang glared at him and nudged him with her elbow. Ji Xingchuan hissed in pain and clutched his waist.
“Bro, I just saw them dragging a reporter out. What happened?”
Sheng Yu pressed his lips together, his voice cold. “Nothing, just a couple of rotten fish. We’ve taken care of it.”
“That’s good.” Sheng Tang nodded. “It’s getting late, I’ll take Ranran home. Bro, Qiao Qiao is yours. Remember to send her back later!”
She winked at Qiao Shuyi, her eyes seeming to say: See, how considerate I am.
Qiao Shuyi: “…”
“Okay.”
After Sheng Tang and Qiao Shuran left, Ji Xingchuan and his group also said their goodbyes.
Zhou Yi had been waiting at the hotel entrance in his car. Seeing Qiao Shuyi and Sheng Yu come out, he quickly got out and opened the car door for them.
Once they got in, the car didn’t start.
Sheng Yu leaned back in his seat, his posture relaxed and casual. Half of his face was hidden in the shadows, making it impossible to tell what he was thinking.
“Did you find out who that person was?”
Zhou Yi turned around and said respectfully, “Mr. Sheng, the person is a reporter from Xinyu Magazine. He’s been with Xinyu for almost ten years and is a veteran employee. He was also the one who conducted the previous interviews with Sheng Shi.”
He paused and added, “Regarding tonight’s incident, the person in charge at Xinyu claims to be unaware of it and is willing to cooperate with our investigation into the mastermind behind it. I’ve already sent people to investigate, but it will take some time to get results.”
Sheng Yu remained silent for a moment. “Check if he has any contact with my siblings.”
“Yes, sir.”
Zhou Yi responded and then asked, “Mr. Sheng, where to next?”
Sheng Yu paused for a moment, glanced at Qiao Shuyi who was silent beside him, and suddenly said, “You can go down. I’ll drive myself.”
“Okay.”
Zhou Yi didn’t ask any further questions and quickly got out of the car.
As soon as the door closed, only Qiao Shuyi and Sheng Yu were left in the car.
“Qiao Qiao.”
Sheng Yu’s voice suddenly rang out in the quiet car, his tone unusually serious.
“What’s wrong?”
The man suddenly turned to her, propping himself up with his arm, and stared at her without moving. “Do you know something?”
“…What?” Qiao Shuyi was taken aback, a sense of panic rising in her heart.
“You asked me for the list of reporters and media outlets the other day. Did you already know someone was problematic?”
Before Qiao Shuyi could answer, the man continued, “You took the initiative to suggest coming with me for the interview tonight. Did you know something too? And Zhou Yi, you also told him beforehand to bring people and wait nearby in case of any emergencies.”
After the man finished speaking, the car fell into a long silence.
He just stared at Qiao Shuyi, his black eyes cold and still, revealing no emotion.
Qiao Shuyi looked at him quietly, her mind racing with excuses and justifications.
But when the words reached her lips, she swallowed them back.
None of them would work.
Sheng Yu was so sharp and intelligent, he would definitely see through any loopholes.
“Sheng Yu, what if I told you I saw this in a dream, would you believe me?”
“A dream?”
“Yeah, after I agreed to accompany you to the annual meeting, I had a dream. I dreamt that a reporter said a lot of terrible things to you at the annual meeting. You lost your temper and hit the reporter with the microphone, and Tangtang was also affected by his words and felt very sad and heartbroken.”
“What did he say?”
Qiao Shuyi glanced at his expression and whispered, “About your parents, he said really nasty and vicious things…”
The man pursed his lips, his expression turning even colder.
“Sheng Yu.” Qiao Shuyi reached out and tugged at his sleeve. “I know what I’m saying is a bit ridiculous…”
“I believe you.”
Sheng Yu suddenly spoke, his voice firm.
Qiao Shuyi’s eyes widened in surprise, she was a little incredulous. “You really believe…”
“Of course.” Sheng Yu reached out and cupped her face, his gaze gentle. “Thank you, Qiao Qiao.”
Qiao Shuyi reached out and hugged his waist. “Sheng Yu, even though I’m not very capable, I will do my best to protect you and Tangtang.”
It was as if she was speaking to him, but also to herself.
“Don’t say such silly things. It’s me who protects you.” Sheng Yu reached out and stroked her hair, his voice carrying a faint smile. “Next time if you encounter something like this, remember to tell me, I’ll handle it.”
Qiao Shuyi raised her head from his embrace. “But what if you don’t believe me?”
“I won’t. I believe everything you say.”
The man’s voice was gentle and low, the twinkle of laughter in his eyes made Qiao Shuyi stunned, her ears involuntarily turned a shade of crimson.
“You’re saying all these nice things now, who knows if you’ll actually believe me later…”
Sheng Tang always said, “Men’s mouths are for deceiving ghosts,” and there’s some truth to it.
When a man likes you, he can say all sorts of sweet nothings. When he doesn’t like you, he can say all sorts of hurtful things.
“If I don’t do what I say, let me be alone and have nothing…”
Before Sheng Yu could finish his words, he was interrupted by a sudden kiss on his lips.
Two seconds later, Qiao Shuyi pulled away from his lips, lowered her eyes, and said with a hint of reproach, “Don’t talk nonsense.”
“Okay, I won’t.”
The man’s eyes darkened, he reached out and stroked the back of her neck, and lowered his head to kiss her lips.
Time passed by minute by minute, and the atmosphere in the car gradually became ambiguous.
At some point, Qiao Shuyi was sitting on his lap, her coat pulled down, revealing her delicate, white collarbone and shoulders.
The man’s hot breath sprayed against her shoulder, accompanied by a faint dampness.
“Baby, I like you so much…”
The man’s voice was hoarse, with a clear sense of restraint and suppression.
Qiao Shuyi’s fair little face turned red, even the skin on her body had a faint pink hue.
What did he call her?
He was Sheng Yu, how could he call her that…
She couldn’t take it.
Suddenly, a phone ringtone rang out in the car, breaking the ambiguous atmosphere.
Qiao Shuyi recognized it, it was her phone ringtone.
She wanted to reach for her bag, but Sheng Yu held her down.
“Ignore it.”
Qiao Shuyi could only withdraw her hand.
But the phone kept ringing, sounding out of place and noisy in the quiet car.
Qiao Shuyi reached out and pressed her hand between their bodies. “I’ll still answer it, what if it’s something urgent.”
Sheng Yu took a deep breath, took her bag and handed it to her, while he continued to hold her body, burying his face in her neck.
Qiao Shuyi took out her phone and saw that it was an unknown number.
She was puzzled for a moment, then answered the call. “Hello?”
“I miss you…”
On the other end of the line, a slurred male voice, as if he was drunk, and quite drunk at that.
The voice sounded familiar.
