When Yu Sen woke up, it was already the next evening. The afterglow of the setting sun shone through the gap in the curtain, casting a reddish-orange hue on the snow-white quilt.
He opened his eyes and stared blankly at the light for a few seconds. He turned his head slightly and saw Si Xuanyang sitting on the sofa next to the hospital bed.
The latter had probably just woken up from his drunken stupor not long ago. He hadn’t changed his clothes, and the faint scent of alcohol still lingered around him. His face, shrouded in shadows, looked gloomy and annoyed.
Seeing that Yu Sen was awake, Si Xuanyang quickly stood up, took a few steps over, and bent down, his eyes downcast, his voice soft, “How do you feel? Do you feel like throwing up?”
Yu Sen wanted to shake his head but suddenly realized his head was wrapped in thick bandages. He had to remain still and said in a low voice, “I don’t feel like throwing up, just a bit dizzy.”
“Well, the doctor said you have a mild concussion, and since you haven’t eaten all day, your hypoglycemia might be pretty severe. Would you like some porridge? Or maybe some soup?”
Yu Sen glanced at the bedside, where four thermos containers were lined up, as if he was recovering after childbirth.
“No, I’m afraid it’ll make me nauseous.”
Si Xuanyang pressed his lips together, a hint of guilt and pain flashing in his eyes. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you to come over so late. I was drunk and lost control…”
“It’s okay, it’s just a cut. My body is still pretty strong, and I recover quickly.”
Yu Sen had a guilty conscience, thinking he could use this as a bitter trick, so he didn’t dare speak too harshly.
However, seeing that he wasn’t getting angry, Si Xuanyang actually felt even more remorseful. “I’m sorry, I really wasn’t thinking straight. The alcohol got to my head, and I just didn’t care about anything…”
“Did you see Si Nan with Luo Yu yesterday?” Yu Sen quickly interrupted his self-blame.
Si Xuanyang’s face stiffened, his expression becoming extremely ugly. “You found out?”
“I could guess a bit.” Yu Sen shifted awkwardly, but Si Xuanyang held him down.
“Don’t move, do you want your wound to tear open?”
Yu Sen cautiously glanced at him. Si Xuanyang didn’t seem to notice anything wrong, gently pulling the blanket up for him. After a few seconds, as if making a decision, he said, “Now that you know, what do you want to do? No matter what, I’ll help you.”
“…”
Yu Sen was stunned. He’d help no matter what?
So if he wanted to cut Si Nan into pieces, would Si Xuanyang really help him dismember the body?
But Si Xuanyang’s gaze was too determined, too clear, solely focused on him. Yu Sen, as if under a spell, inexplicably believed in the possibility.
“…No matter what I do, you’ll help me?”
“Yes,” Si Xuanyang answered, looking straight at him.
“Then can you promise… not to hit me later? In my current state, one punch from you might kill me.”
“How could I hit you?” Si Xuanyang frowned in confusion, but seeing Yu Sen’s sincere eyes, he solemnly nodded.
Maybe…this request was just a side effect of the concussion, causing his thoughts to become jumbled. Si Xuanyang thought it made sense.
“Don’t worry, no matter what you do, I won’t hit you.”
“Alright, I believe you.” Yu Sen exhaled deeply, staring at the ceiling, not daring to meet Si Xuanyang’s eyes, and quickly blurted out his words like he was rapping.
“I’m not your in-law, I’m not even Si Nan’s boyfriend!”
The air froze for a long time, so long that Yu Sen could hear his own heartbeat. He couldn’t resist sneaking a glance at Si Xuanyang’s expression, but Si Xuanyang hesitantly spoke at that moment.
“Are you…breaking up with him?”
“…”
What kind of logic is that?
Yu Sen felt like he was on a roller coaster, his emotions rising and falling, caught between laughter and tears.
The courage he had mustered was disrupted, and he no longer had the resolve to cut things off quickly.
He glanced at Si Xuanyang pitifully, thinking that whether it’s sooner or later, it’s all the same—he’s doomed. Sincerely, he said, “What I meant was, I’ve never dated your brother. Ever since we met in school until now, we’ve always had a purely platonic—friendship relationship!”
Face-to-face conversation left no room for retreat.
This was the first time Yu Sen experienced a cold, bone-chilling atmosphere. His body felt cold, and so did his heart.
After a long while, before Yu Sen completely froze into an ice pop, Si Xuanyang finally broke out of his ice statue-like state.
However, his tone was as cold as air conditioning: “You’re saying you two were never together?”
Yu Sen swallowed nervously. “Yes.”
“Never kissed or slept together like a couple?”
!!! Could Si Xuanyang actually say something like that? Yu Sen looked at him in shock. “My God! Of course not! How can you be so young and yet have such dirty thoughts in your head!?”
“This isn’t just your concussion making you talk nonsense?”
“…I’m completely sober.”
“So you’ve been lying to me all along? Playing with me?”
Yu Sen’s arrogant tone instantly weakened, his gaze evasive, not daring to look at him. “…I don’t recall ever explicitly saying…I was your brother’s boyfriend. So, it’s not really lying to you…”
Si Xuanyang let out an icy laugh, his voice sharp as if laced with shards of ice: “You’ve got some nerve, Yu Sen. You really know how to play, leading me around in circles, and in the end, you’re completely clean, huh? So it’s all my fault?”
“No, no, no…you’re not at fault, you’re absolutely not at fault! You’re the best!”
Si Xuanyang’s expression twisted, his mouth twitching as he suddenly got up, turning to leave.
Yu Sen immediately panicked: He’s really furious! He’s going to cut ties with me! He’s going to treat me like a stranger! He’s going to take the high road while I’m stuck on a narrow path!
That can’t happen!
“Oh no, I’m dying! You’re going to abandon me, aren’t you?”
“My head is spinning…I’m about to pass out…Oh no, my head’s wet again, the wound must have reopened…Just go, I can stitch the wound myself. It’s my fault, I won’t bother you anymore…”
Si Xuanyang’s hand on the doorknob froze, unable to bear it anymore. He turned back, his ragged breathing and heaving chest showing how furious he was, ready to explode.
Yu Sen trembled in fear, feeling like that doorknob might be crushed in Si Xuanyang’s grip at any moment.
Si Xuanyang glared at him furiously. “Yu Sen, are you pretending again? Dizzy like that, but you can still shout clearly and argue logically? You can stitch yourself up? Why don’t you stitch a flower on while you’re at it?!”
Yu Sen weakly watched him lose his temper, then suddenly had a thought. Trembling, he reached his hand out from under the blanket, nervously waving it towards him.
“Yang Yang, it’s really split open this time… I yelled too hard just now, and instead of hurting my throat, I split my wound… Oh my God…”
“…I really want to kill you…”
“Quick, call the doctor first. I’m not lying this time, stitch me up first, then you can kill me later.” Yu Sen didn’t dare to move at all.
Seeing that he wasn’t faking it, Si Xuanyang’s face darkened even more. He quickly walked to the bedside and pressed the call button, then held Yu Sen’s head in place. “Don’t move.”
“Calm down, or you might just tear my head off.”
“…Shut up!”
…
After the doctor re-treated the wound, Yu Sen finally started to feel a bit hungry despite his dizziness. He looked pitifully at Si Xuanyang and said, “I’m hungry.”
Si Xuanyang glanced at him coldly. “Don’t look at me.”
“…Don’t be like that. What kind of soup is that? Is it yam and pork rib soup? I can smell it. I want some.”
Si Xuanyang was so frustrated that he didn’t even know what to say. The way things were developing wasn’t how it should go, but Yu Sen was so shameless that after confessing just half an hour ago, he could already pester him for soup. What a heartless guy.
He couldn’t beat him, and scolding wouldn’t hit the mark either. Si Xuanyang wanted to throw something, but this was a hospital, and causing a scene would probably get recorded and posted online as a medical dispute.
So, all his anger was bottled up, bouncing around inside him with no way to release it.
With a cold face, he called Xiao Chen, who had been waiting outside the door, to come in and watch Yu Sen. Then he left the room, gloomily.
Yu Sen quickly called after him, “Hey, where are you going!?”
“None of your damn business!” Si Xuanyang immediately regretted responding. If it’s none of his business, why even answer? He should have just walked out!
Pathetic!
“Are you going back to take a shower? Are you coming back tonight?” Yu Sen nagged like nothing had happened. “It’s okay if you don’t come back. I’m not scared. But tomorrow, I want to eat spicy chicken with fish fillets and braised crayfish. Remember to bring them when you come…”
The door to the ward slammed shut with a loud bang.
Listening to the faint scolding from outside, Yu Sen sighed and earnestly told Xiao Chen, “His parents and siblings need to teach him better emotional management. How can he treat a patient like this? He almost scared my wound open again.”
Xiao Chen awkwardly laughed. Last night, when he met them, he never imagined that this suspected official boyfriend of the first young master would have this kind of personality.
“Ahem… Second Young Master has always had a bad temper, but I think he treats you pretty well,” Xiao Chen said sincerely.
With how angry he was, and he didn’t really hit or scold you, isn’t that good?
Recalling what happened at the bar, Xiao Chen couldn’t help but think that the handsome man before him not only had something going on with the elder brother but maybe with the younger brother too!
Tsk tsk tsk… Shocking gossip, secrets of the wealthy!
Exciting!
Trying to contain his excitement, Xiao Chen asked in a shaky voice, “Mr. Yu, you’re so badly injured, should we inform the first young master to come and check on you?”
Yu Sen glared at him. “Are you trying to make things worse? No need!”
Xiao Chen took a deep breath: The gossip is confirmed!
