“Wow, that’s amazing! You’ve really put on a show for us, Arrow Saint!” Si Nan whistled.
“Enough with the show-off! Let’s get moving!” Si Xuanyang said in a cold voice, glancing down and meeting a zombie’s dead fish-eye. Annoyed, he hit the wall with an axe a couple of times, wishing he could throw a bucket of oil down to burn all those disgusting things.
“What am I showing off… Hey, be careful!”
The corridor was dimly lit, and occasionally, a bloodied zombie would spring out from the stairwell, catching Yu Sen off guard. Fortunately, his body’s reflexes were always faster than his brain, and he reflexively slapped the zombie against the wall.
Looking at his hands covered in bits of flesh, which looked like unbroken sauce, Yu Sen’s eyes gleamed slightly: “I shouldn’t get infected, right? Who knows, its head was like tofu.”
“Why do I feel like you’re a bit excited?” Si Xuanyang glanced disgustedly at the pieces of flesh on his hands and urged, “Stop playing with tofu brains and hurry up!”
Yu Sen had already noticed that the zombies here weren’t very fast; the problem was their sheer number. As long as they could shake them off and not get surrounded, they’d be fine.
But…
He suddenly had a chilling thought as if cold air was poured over his head—what if the rooftop door was locked?
That would force them into a dead end! There would be no way to retreat!
“Is that really possible? I mean, in game scenarios, cities don’t usually have locked doors…”
“What are you rambling on about? Watch out!” Si Xuanyang, following behind Yu Sen, was irritated as he saw Yu Sen narrowly avoid a suddenly appearing zombie at the stairway. He was so angry he felt like smacking Yu Sen’s ever-rambling mouth.
But since Yu Sen was his in-law, he couldn’t just hit him, a point he still kept firmly in mind.
Yu Sen chuckled dryly, speaking as if telling a ghost story: “What if… the rooftop door is locked?”
Si Xuanyang choked up, his eyes nearly shooting fire: “There’s no ‘what if.’ If it’s locked, I’ll kick it open!”
“Wow! So cool!” Yu Sen laughed casually. “I checked before entering the convenience store. The neighboring building is very close and slightly shorter. We can jump over.”
Si Nan shivered in fear. “What are you talking about? Is this a movie? We’re jumping buildings now?”
“Look at those restless Pikachu downstairs. Do you think staying in this building gives us any chance of survival?” Yu Sen said.
Si Nan looked down from the railing, and the swarm of zombies below, like a flood, made his scalp tingle. Some zombies were pushed off the building, turning into a pile of flesh, while others were crushed into mush, their brains and entrails sticking to the walls, the foul smell rising with the wind.
“…Comparing it to Pikachu like that, how can I ever look at Pikachu the same way? Pikachu is innocent.”
Yu Sen sneered, his eyes gleaming with a trace of malice in the dim corridor.
He adjusted his breathing, mentally counting the floors; they should be about two floors away from the top.
After running up more than twenty floors, his hands and feet were starting to weaken, and his lungs felt like they might explode. He couldn’t afford to stop; if he did, he would probably collapse immediately.
“Shit, why are these zombies so persistent? Are we some kind of energy syrup they keep chasing… Hey! We’re almost there! Look at that iron door!” Si Nan shouted.
Yu Sen spotted the rusty lock on the rooftop iron door at a glance. The latch was thin and very easy to break.
He raised an eyebrow and pulled back his arm: “Xuanyang, you look like you’ve got some strength to spare. Now’s the time to use it!”
“Why are you poking me?” Si Xuanyang was caught off guard by Yu Sen’s clawing at his neck, his hair standing on end. Seeing those delicate white fingers in the dim light made him feel annoyed and almost impulsive to break them.
“Hurry up, stop being a brat, and open the door for me!” Yu Sen stepped aside.
“Fuck you!” Si Xuanyang was furious. With a yell of “Shit,” he kicked the already flimsy iron door on the rooftop, causing it to fall to the ground.
The door crashed to the ground with a “bang,” and blinding sunlight immediately poured in.
Yu Sen: “…”
Well, it’s open now, and it won’t close again. The zombies below also can’t be blocked anymore. Most importantly… they don’t get to rest now; they have to jump!
What a dramatic day, Yu Sen sighed.
“Great job, little brother,” Si Nan said excitedly, “Looks like all those years of Taekwondo and close combat training weren’t in vain!”
Si Xuanyang felt like he was losing it over these absurd comments from the two guys.
As they spoke, they had already reached the edge of the rooftop. Under the scorching sun, the rooftop had no shelter, and the view was a blinding expanse of light. The heat rose from the ground to the top of their heads, and the screams from the corridor grew louder, with the vibrations from the erratic footsteps felt even from several meters away.
This would soon be a zombie paradise.
Looking over, the neighboring rooftop was also very spacious, the edge slightly lower, with a gap of about two meters between the two buildings.
Yu Sen smiled mysteriously: “I really love this Shited city planning office.”
Without a moment’s pause, while Si Nan and Si Xuanyang were still reacting, Yu Sen took a few steps back and flew off like an arrow.
“Yu Sen!”
He heard Si Nan and Si Xuanyang’s urgent shouts. In mid-air, his heart tightened, and before he could think, his feet landed on the concrete below with a memory-like precision. He rolled to dissipate the impact and lay flat on the ground.
A layer of dust rose around him.
His hands and feet were a bit weak, and his clothes were soaked with sweat. Yu Sen looked up at the blue sky, exhaled, and muttered, “Seems like building the house tightly isn’t without its advantages…”
“Are you okay!” An anxious voice came from the opposite side.
Yu Sen slowly turned and got up, taking a few steps back, and waved at the two people on the other side: “I’m fine, jump!”
“I can’t do it!” Si Nan said, almost in tears.
“Men shouldn’t say they can’t do it!” Yu Sen sneered, “If you can’t, then go have a night with the zombies!”
He pointed behind them.
The woman in the green dress who had been chased by zombies had desperately managed to reach the 24th floor. At this moment, her face was pale, her eyes wide with terror, and her features twisted. Her dress was torn and tattered, and the exposed skin was already spreading with red and purple veins, as if about to burst out.
Yu Sen watched her mouth open, her expression desperately trying to say something. Blood-red tears flowed from her eyes, but whether it was from exhaustion or something else, she could no longer form complete syllables.
When she appeared at the rooftop door, Yu Sen had already seen the zombies closing in behind her.
Two seconds later, she was grabbed by a zombie around the neck and bitten on the jaw.
Blood spurted out.
“Ahhhhhhh——!”
More and more zombies were catching up, and Si Nan took a deep breath, no longer concerned about the issue of splattering brains. If he didn’t jump soon, he feared that even his brains might be eaten clean.
“Heavenly spirits and earthly spirits, even if I must die, don’t let it be today! Ah——!”
He quickly took a few steps back, ran, accelerated, leaped, and made a comical arc in mid-air before landing in front of Yu Sen with a “thud.”
“Your majesty, no need for courtesy. Stand up.” Yu Sen lightly raised his hand.
“Go to hell!”
Yu Sen looked at the opposite side again. Some of the zombies had not gotten a taste of the woman in the green dress and had turned towards Si Xuanyang, who was not far from them.
“Yang Yang, don’t look!” Yu Sen said coldly.
Si Xuanyang seemed to wake up suddenly, turning his gaze away from the woman’s horrific fate and looking at him. Under the scorching sun, his clear eyes still showed some lingering shock and reluctance.
“Don’t look, come over here.” Yu Sen’s voice was surprisingly calm.
Si Xuanyang glanced at him, bit his lip, estimated the distance to the zombies, and quickly retreated a few steps, accelerating just a meter away from the nearest zombie.
Yu Sen tilted his head slightly, watching him as he darted across the clear sky like a bright white streak of lightning, landing beside him.
“Nice!”
Si Xuanyang took a breath and smiled up at him: “Thank you for the compliment.”
Yu Sen looked over to the other side. The zombies here didn’t have the jumping ability of humans and couldn’t leap the more than two-meter gap. They wandered around the steps at the edge of the rooftop for a while before turning back towards the woman in the green dress.
From Yu Sen’s perspective, the woman was motionless, surrounded by layers of zombies, devouring her wildly.
The sound of flesh being torn was not very clear at this distance, but the bright red blood spreading from the center was fully visible in the sunlight.
Si Xuanyang stood beside him, watching in that direction, and asked softly, “What do you think… will happen to her after her death is confirmed? Will the real her also die?”
Yu Sen sneered and tilted his head to look at him: “What? Do you still think this is just a virtual game? Then what do you think your body is? A string of data?”
Si Xuanyang lowered his head and bit his lip, not speaking.
“Then let’s test whether this is real or virtual.”
As soon as Yu Sen finished speaking, before Si Xuanyang could react, he quickly grabbed Si Xuanyang’s wrist and lightly scraped his forearm with an arrowhead.
“Hiss—! What are you doing!?”
The sharp arrowhead left a cut on the skin, with tiny beads of blood slowly seeping out.
