Clock Trap
Clock Trap chapter 98

Yuan Fei’s ice sculpture-like corpse was quite conspicuous in the backyard, visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows from a distance.

But seeing it was one thing, and most people didn’t have any additional thoughts. They might guess who did it if they saw Si Xuanyang handling Yuan Fei that day, but for them, the biggest thought was to stay away from Si Xuanyang.

Such people are best avoided if possible.

As for Yuan Fei, well, he was dead, so that was that.

Compared to this, their little circle of four was now the quietest and most comfortable.

Some who had obtained pass cards didn’t even dare to come down to eat when there were many people.

But Yu Sen thought that once someone has targeted you, the number of people doesn’t make a difference. When he was captured by Yuan Fei, he thought there was no one around.

At times like this, it’s all about luck.

Thinking about Yuan Fei made his heart feel cold again.

He had set the requirement for Si Xuanyang not to act personally. He had thought Si Xuanyang planned to leave Yuan Fei in this wretched place, letting him die passively by not completing the task, but it turned out that Yuan Fei’s death was indeed directly related to him.

“Was it the little ghost who got four candies last night?” Yu Sen asked quietly while sitting at the dining table.

Si Xuanyang nodded and placed a cup of hot milk in front of Yu Sen. “Yes, I asked her to do it.”

“Wow, Si Xuanyang, you even made deals with evil ghosts. After the mission, are you planning to stay here as the head of the evil ghosts or something?”

“If it were possible to become the head of evil ghosts, why would I need to exchange things for labor?” Si Xuanyang said with a smile as he cut the sandwich on Yu Sen’s plate into small pieces. “Let’s not stay in this world for too long. Otherwise, later, I might find you have already found another ghost.”

“Not that quickly…” Yu Sen mumbled with a sandwich in his mouth.

He had recovered from his fever but had used too much energy, leaving him feeling weak and unusually hungry. Eating made him feel satisfied and even improved his mood, which had been down because of Yuan Fei.

“Eat slowly,” Si Xuanyang said, propping his head with one hand and slowly pushing various snacks and breakfast items in front of Yu Sen with the other. “Everyone else is busy today, so no one will be competing with you.”

A player came rushing down from upstairs, tightly holding a small bag, not even taking a single piece of bread. With a gloomy face, he headed out the door.

On the last day, those without cards but with a few candies or pumpkins left would desperately try one last time.

Si Xuanyang raised an eyebrow at him: I was right, wasn’t I?

Yu Sen hugged his milk cup, blinking innocently. He suddenly thought that their little group of leisurely people seemed rather heartless.

“……I’m full. Let’s go upstairs.” He put down his cup.

“Really? I don’t believe it.” Si Xuanyang narrowed his eyes, reached over to feel his stomach, “It’s not even a bit full. Eat a little more.”

“… It’s not like I’m pregnant; how could it possibly be sticking out? I can eat a little more, but could you move your hand away?” Yu Sen’s gaze was fixed on the palm that was rubbing in circles on his lower abdomen, his expression hard to describe.

Opposite him, Si Nan muttered, “Tsk!”

Too embarrassing to look at.

Si Xuanyang cleared his throat, withdrew his hand, and calmly explained, “The fabric of this clothes feels really nice, soft, skin-friendly, and good-looking.”

“Then why don’t you buy it for me, and I’ll wear it for you every day,” Yu Sen said nonchalantly, kicking at the scattered delicate dress hem.

Si Nan was stunned for two seconds, then tried to dissuade him, “… It wouldn’t be appropriate. If my mom saw it, she’d probably be shocked.”

“Don’t exaggerate. Aunt Shu’s acceptance level is much higher than yours.”

“…”

Si Nan thought carefully. His mother had given birth to two sons but had no daughters-in-law. With his father, there were five men in the family and only one woman. It must be very boring for her. If Yu Sen went shopping for dresses with her, she might actually welcome it!

Thinking of that bizarre scenario, Si Nan nearly dropped his ham slice onto the floor.

After dinner, the four of them went out to see the current state of the town.

The town’s locals were preparing for the Halloween parade, decorating everywhere with lights and lanterns. Bushes and lamp posts were adorned with ornaments and pumpkin lanterns.

Young swordsmen and ninjas at the corner were handing out flyers and commemorative cookies.

Yu Sen took a flyer. It was covered in colorful graffiti, with the words ‘Halloween Frenzy Night’ written in big letters. Below, it listed the parade schedule and main streets, as well as the location of the Halloween cake they were most interested in—the central fountain square.

At this time, it was impossible to tell who was human and who was a ghost with the Western-style glasses. Children and adults came and went, and any passerby could be a corpse or ghost from the underworld.

The surroundings felt like a freezer to Yu Sen. It wasn’t long before his hands and feet were almost frostbitten.

After quickly confirming all the information, they returned to the room to wait for the final moments of the night.

If it weren’t for Yuan Fei’s interruption, this would have been their easiest otherworldly adventure yet.

Back in the room, to prevent Yu Sen from catching a cold due to fluctuating temperatures, Si Xuanyang prepared a large basin of hot water for him. Yu Sen soaked his feet, feeling drowsy and weak, sweating a little, and his body gradually relaxed.

Si Xuanyang helplessly held him, placed him back on the bed, and kissed his shoulder, “I see you’ve gotten so used to me that you can’t be away for even a second.”

“Bullshit! Stop being so self-absorbed,” Yu Sen, feeling dizzy, endured the gentle kisses on his face and retorted, “Once I’m feeling better, I’ll ditch you and hit the clubs.”

“Sure, give it a try then,” Si Xuanyang bit his earlobe, “Let’s see who has more tricks up their sleeve.”

“Stop it… I’m so dizzy, I have no energy…”

“Alright, stop fooling around. Go to sleep,” Si Xuanyang touched his lips to Yu Sen’s, covered him with a blanket, and stood by the bed, looking at Yu Sen’s peaceful sleeping face, chuckling and saying, “When have you ever had energy…”

At seven in the evening, they finished their last meal in the downstairs dining room, and the town’s bells rang in the distance.

Yu Sen took a deep breath. When he received the dark golden pass from Si Xuanyang, the card instantly turned into a golden mist at his fingertips, as if it had life, circling around the cardholder and casting a faint golden glow over their entire bodies.

“Wow, holy light blessing!” Yu Sen exclaimed excitedly.

Turning to look at his exceptionally handsome demon boyfriend, who looked even more distinguished under the holy light, he said, “My boyfriend is really good-looking, I have great taste!”

“Are you complimenting me or yourself?” Si Xuanyang laughed, placing a devoted kiss on Yu Sen’s brows, took his hand, and said, “Make sure you don’t let go of my hand, okay?”

“Don’t worry! I’m very cautious about my life now.”

“If you can’t handle the cold, you must tell me. I can carry you,” he thought for a moment and added, “Or I could just carry you directly; I’m a bit worried.”

“Do you think we’re not conspicuous enough? Want the ghosts to give us a special salute?”

“…”

Outside, the street was bustling with lively laughter and voices. The group inside exchanged glances for a while. Several people with the pass glowing with golden light led the way out, and Yu Sen and his group looked at each other and followed them out.

Just before stepping out, Yu Sen suddenly remembered something and said to those without passes, who were anxiously pacing around, “If you don’t have the protective layer and are afraid of encountering the parade’s evil spirits, you might try to bypass the main parade streets and head straight to the fountain square. The flyer from today marked the route; you should have seen it when you were out.”

Then he faced the cold wind and followed the three out the door.

Although this method was risky and might not work, staying in the room was a dead end. Even the smallest chance was better than nothing.

If it were him facing this situation, he would definitely choose to go out and take the risk.

The intersection was filled with noise and commotion, with a swarm of “things” carrying pumpkin lanterns and various weapons like swords and axes, grinning and laughing with a chilling aura, moving towards their street.

As they got closer, it became clear that nearly 60% of the “people” in the parade were the real evil spirits they had seen last night.

Not just children, but adults as well.

Those emaciated, disemboweled figures could hardly be mistaken for Halloween costumes. Anyone who believed otherwise would be a fool.

Yu Sen felt Si Xuanyang’s hand gripping even tighter.

The demons and monsters in the parade seemed to have noticed them and immediately showed terrifying, snarling smiles. A few evil spirits charged at them, trying to drag them away, but before they could get close, a faint golden glow pushed them back from two or three meters away.

The evil spirits, gritting their teeth in frustration, howled a few times and dragged their bloodied and battered bodies back into the parade.

The parade participants cast dozens of malicious glances, their eyes glowing with a crimson, bloody aura. After a sweep of their bloodshot eyes, the parade team did not attack them further. Reluctantly, they resumed their screeching as they moved forward.

“Damn it! With this kind of parade… I think those without passes are definitely screwed,” Si Nan exhaled deeply, patting his racing heart.

“Let’s see their luck and courage,” Si Xuanyang rubbed Yu Sen’s cold hand. “Let’s run; the sooner we get there, the sooner we’ll be free. Baby, can you hold on?”

“Let’s run first,” Yu Sen shivered and said uncertainly, “If I can’t run anymore, you’ll have to carry me.”

“Okay.”

The four of them, along with a few people protected by the golden glow who had run out with them, headed towards the central fountain square.
