Clueless and Overthinker
Clueless and Overthinker Chapter 1

The Gong[1]Attacker, Top, Seme (Gu Nanfeng) is a high-ranking Sentinel.

He serves in the Federation’s Third Legion, specializing in ambushes and surprise attacks. His spirit animal is a cougar. He has exceptional personal abilities, excels in solo missions, and has leadership skills in team operations, earning A+ ratings on all his missions.

However, he has a foul mouth and doesn’t care whether his target is male or female—he just says whatever comes to mind. Yet, because he’s good-looking, even doing something as simple as pull-ups in the training ground exudes so much masculine charm that it drives the cute little guides from the adjacent area wild with admiration. He also has a mischievous personality, constantly flirting and showing off, which only adds to his allure. His fan club of guides thinks he’s irresistibly charismatic, and over time, he turns his sharp tongue and quick wit into part of his charm.

Then, the shou[2]Bottom, Uke (Qiao Si Yu) appears.

The guide, Qiao Si Yu was born with a physical defect—he can’t speak—but is brought to the frontlines due to mission requirements. He’s kind and possesses strong mental power, helping to calm the mental storms of frontline Sentinels. When Qao Si Yu first helps the Gu Nanfeng with a mental debrief, Gu Nanfeng sees how quiet and calm he is and assumes he’s the type to blush easily when teased. So, he starts flirting with him.

Si Yu ignores him.

Gu Nanfeng takes it further, getting more carried away with his jokes.

Si Yu suddenly stops the debrief.

Although he can’t speak, the guide’s mental strength is incredibly powerful. He directly breaks through Gu Nanfeng’s mental barriers and speaks into his mind: “Say one more word, and you’ll see what happens.”

Gu Nanfeng not knowing when to quit, replies, “What could happen? Want to continue this in bed? I don’t mind.”

He even scans the himnup and down, as if evaluating his face and body.

And then Si Yu hit him.

Slapped.

Qiao Si Yu controlling his mental tendrils, slaps Gu Nanfeng dozens of times, leaving him dizzy and disoriented.

When the higher-ups notice that Gu Nanfeng has been inside the debrief room for too long, they open the door to check what’s going on.

Qiao Si Yu while continuing to slap Gu Nanfeng with his mental tendrils, gently signs with his hands, “I’m just helping him with his mental debrief.”

From that moment on, the grudge is set. He avoids Qiao Si Yu’s gaze whenever they cross paths.

Meanwhile, all the other Sentinels on the frontlines have an excellent impression of Qiao Si Yu. Everyone who’s been debriefed by him praises his mental stability, expert technique, and his looks—he’s especially gentle when he smiles. Hearing this makes Gu Nanfeng’s face darken. He thinks Qiao Si Yu isn’t as kind and caring as everyone claims—he only cracked a joke and got slapped for it! In his mind, Si Yu is way too petty.

But Gu Nanfeng can’t tell anyone he was mentally suppressed by the guide and helplessly endured dozens of slaps. After all, it’s his own fault for being mouthy.

He’s got no way to explain it.

On the other hand, Qiao Si Yu is also frustrated. The little guides are always chattering like reporters about Gu Nanfeng’s latest accomplishments, how difficult his missions are, and how impressive his cougar spirit animal is, as if he’s some sort of boss-level character. They hype him up endlessly.

One day, after guide training, an adorable junior guide shyly confides in the him: “Today, I saw Gu Nanfeng. He even cornered me against the wall! I felt so shy—what should I do?” Qiao Si Yu thinks to himself, “Are you blind?”

Si Yu absolutely loathes shameless soldiers like Gu Nanfeng who have no boundaries. Every time he hears news about him, he keeps a polite smile while internally thinking “MMP”[3]a Chinese internet slang term expressing extreme frustration or anger.

Eventually, the two are assigned to work together on a mission.

The ratio of Sentinels to guides is 10:1. A guide of Qiao Si Yu’s caliber wouldn’t usually be deployed to the frontlines unless absolutely necessary. High-ranking guides are treated like rare treasures within the Federation and are usually protected and pampered. As a result, most guides don’t have any combat abilities.

Guides use their brains, and Sentinels use their muscles. Initially, Gu Nanfeng thinks this as well and is already planning how to humiliate Qiao Si Yu once he slows down the team. But Si Yu exceeds everyone’s expectations. He can hold off a quantum cannon with one hand, take on ordinary soldiers with both, and not only protect himself while on missions but also assist in team combat. While the Sentinels charge forward, Si Yu supports them from the back, protecting their mental barriers from enemy guide attacks.

Si Yu’s reliability and strength earn the respect of the haughty high-ranking Sentinels.

Gu Nanfeng is no exception, though he refuses to admit it. He’s still bitter about the time Si Yu slapped him, feeling deeply humiliated. Since sign language is inconvenient during combat, Si Yu communicates directly with the Sentinels through mental clouds, simultaneously providing guidance and debriefing, which benefits everyone.

Everyone accepts this gladly—except Gu Nanfeng. Every pore on his body resists Si Yu’s mental power, and his cougar spirit animal bares its teeth constantly.

Qiao Si Yu doesn’t care. Over several debriefs, all the other Sentinels in the special operations group grow to love Si Yu and he does his best to soothe their spirit animals, scratching one’s chin here and patting another’s ass there. The only one left out is Gu Nanfeng’s lonely cougar, left to sulk while Gu Nanfeng opens another can of food. The poor big cat also wishes for a gentle hand to pet its sleek fur.

Gu Nanfeng, unwilling to let the Si Yu debrief him, grows increasingly volatile during missions, to the point where his mouth runs wild, constantly provoking Si Yu.

It’s completely unreasonable.

In front of others, Si Yu ignores him, but behind the scenes, he finds ways to aggravate Gu Nanfeng to the point of jumping in frustration. Gu Nanfeng’s teammates can’t stand it anymore and advise him, saying, “Qiao Si Yu is such a good person—why are you always fighting with him?” Gu Nanfeng has no way to explain. Every time Si Yu secretly gets his revenge, no one else notices. He plays innocent in front of others, and Gu Nanfeng dares not speak out. Last time, his mental barrier was nearly shattered by Si Yu, but afterward, Si Yu instantly calmed his cougar down, even clearing away the mental scarring. His mental strength is immeasurably deep.

Gu Nanfeng aware of the power gap, knows he can’t win in a mental battle. But even if he can’t win, he still feels the need to fight back. Being slapped in the face is something he just can’t tolerate. Despite his disdain for Si Yu, when they fall into an ambush during a mission and Si Yu is injured and suffers mental damage, Gu Nanfeng immediately prioritizes Si Yu’s safety and arranges for a retreat.
