Daily Life of Raising Cubs Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Come and See

Yu Wei then looked up at her, recognising her as the woman who had injured her son’s head yesterday.

Before Yu Wei could say anything, Yuan Guifang spoke up, “Yanyan, what are you doing? Yu Wei is about to leave; don’t block the way.”

Yuan Guifang, thinking Yu Wei was going to try to win back Director Luo, was excited and hoped she would manage to change Luo Dongshen’s mind.

But why was Fang Yanyan now so arrogant, when she used to be so obsequious to Yu Wei? Seeing that the Luo family was no longer backing them, she was immediately getting uppity?

As expected, the guesses were correct. Fang Yanyan snorted and didn’t even look at Yuan Guifang. “What’s this? I haven’t come to settle the score for injuring my son yesterday, and you, Aunt Yu, have this attitude?”

She had heard that morning that Yu Wei, the alluring woman, had angered the director of Lu Cheng Clothing Factory, and in a fit of rage, he had kicked her out of the office.

Seeing her downfall, Fang Yanyan was thrilled and had come early to pick a fight with Yu Wei, bringing Da Niu along to stir trouble.

Most of the neighbours had already gone to work, leaving only the women at home. They had nothing to do and came out to watch the commotion.

Fang Yanyan seemed to have accumulated a lot of resentment towards Yu Wei, and today she was eager to mock her while she was down.

After all, Director Luo had kicked her out. Why should she still be afraid?

Yu Wei, who had no one to support her, was isolated and helpless. Fang Yanyan felt confident with her backing.

Yuan Guifang’s expression changed immediately upon hearing this, but without Luo Dongshen’s support, her aura diminished.

Thinking of how the neighbours used to envy them, now that Yu Wei was kicked out, they all wanted to kick her while she was down?

Yuan Guifang was furious, while Yu Wei remained calm and didn’t give her a glance.

She turned to Yu Hui and asked softly, “Tell Mommy, did you hit Da Niu while playing yesterday?”

The little guy understood the situation and shook his head firmly, “No.”

His little mouth moved, “I didn’t hit Da Niu.”

Yu Wei smiled, and her smile finally calmed Yu Hui’s anxious little heart. She smiled and patted his little head. “Our Huihui is so good!”

Yu Wei turned and faced Fang Yanyan, coldly saying, “Did you hear? Our Huihui didn’t hit your Da Niu.”

Fang Yanyan arrogantly responded, “Just because you say he didn’t hit him doesn’t mean he didn’t!”

“Then on what basis are you saying my Huihui hit someone?”

Anyone with eyes could see who was being bullied.

Wasn’t this woman just looking for trouble? How long had she been harbouring such resentment?

“Mom,” during the standoff, Da Niu rolled his eyes and whispered, “Yu Hui didn’t hit me…”

Fang Yanyan immediately got agitated, pulling her son’s arm and shouting, “Da Niu, what nonsense are you talking? I’m here; don’t be afraid of Yu Wei!”

Yu Wei: “…”

Her own son had said Yu Hui hadn’t hit him. Was this woman suffering from paranoid delusions?

“Do you have something to say?” Yu Wei was speechless.

Fang Yanyan didn’t realise Yu Wei was mocking her with the ‘you’ address. She was baffled by the ‘you’ and thought Yu Wei was trying to flatter her out of fear.

“I’m fine. It’s my son who has a problem!” She lifted Da Niu’s shirt to show Yu Wei.

“Look, my son has a scratch on his stomach, which he discovered after playing with your son yesterday. He didn’t have it before! Don’t try to fool me!”

Yu Wei was truly speechless now, looking at the white mark on Da Niu’s stomach that seemed to be a scratch made by nails. She thought of the word ‘liar’ to describe the situation.

Where would her little Huihui get nails from? How ridiculous.

But her words seemed to be the spark that ignited Fang Yanyan’s fury. She rushed to grab Yu Hui, who was caught off guard and pulled roughly. He lost his balance and fell onto the cement floor.

He cried from the pain and was bewildered as to why Fang Yanyan suddenly grabbed him, his little body trembling.

Yu Wei’s pupils contracted, her anger rising. She stepped forward and slapped Fang Yanyan’s face!

The onlookers gasped, and Fang Yanyan screamed in rage.

“Ah—Yu Wei!”

“Shut your filthy mouth!” Yu Wei pulled her son into her arms, her maternal instinct flaring up.

Yu Wei channeled the fierceness from her childhood fights and caught Fang Yanyan’s arm as she tried to hit her.

Despite appearing soft and weak, Yu Wei’s strength was not less than Fang Yanyan’s. During their confrontation, Fang Yanyan did not gain the upper hand and started flailing her arms and kicking.

Fortunately, Yuan Guifang, who had been stunned, finally reacted and rushed to help her daughter subdue the madwoman.

Yu Wei seized the opportunity and kicked Fang Yanyan’s calf hard, causing her to double over in pain. Yu Wei then carried her child and left without looking back.

Fang Yanyan went crazy behind them. She tried to break free from Yuan Guifang’s grip to chase Yu Wei but was held back by Yuan Guifang’s strong grasp. The two women started arguing and cursing in the small courtyard, with every word filled with malice.

Even though Yu Wei had slapped the woman a few times, after walking a considerable distance, she looked at her son’s pale face with the marks from the cement ground and felt a pang of pain.

“Does it hurt, Huihui?”

It would be impossible to say it didn’t hurt. The delicate skin on a child’s face was very tender. He sniffled, shook his head, and buried his face into Yu Wei’s neck, rubbing against her as if it could relieve some of the sting.

Yu Wei gently patted her son’s thin, frail back, patiently soothing his hurt little heart from Fang Yanyan’s attack.

Fortunately, the little guy was well-behaved, understanding, and not prone to crying. After walking around the street for a while, both mother and son had calmed down.

Finding Luo Dongshen was impossible now. That man was just an excuse. What Yu Wei needed was to find a new place to live and move out. She didn’t want to stay in that house for another second.

With this in mind, her desire to move grew stronger, and soon they found themselves outside a park with a sign reading ‘Yingshan Park’.

Parks were generally free these days, especially small-town parks like this one. After a few steps, Yu Wei led Huihui inside.

The park was quite large, with mountains, water, and trees. The scenery was quite nice, with endless green stretching out.

They ended up in a secluded corner of the park, where Yu Wei and Huihui sat on the grass. Yu Wei then took out the leftover biscuits and bread from her pocket.

“Here, have some.”

Yu Wei handed the remaining fruit cake to Huihui, who took a small bite. The sweet taste spread across his lips. He looked at Yu Wei with a puzzled expression.

He extended the cake to Yu Wei, indicating that she should also eat.

Yu Wei hesitated, then gently pushed his small hand away, saying, “I’m not eating; you eat.”

There was so little food, it was enough for his small appetite. As an adult, she wouldn’t starve from skipping breakfast.

Huihui slowly withdrew his hand and continued eating in small bites, his big eyes watching Yu Wei. With the cheerful chirping of birds in the background, his nervous heart gradually relaxed, and the pain on his little face subsided.

Curiously, he took in the surroundings, marvelling at the new and strange experience. This was his first time here, seeing mountains, lakes, and so many trees, all the greenery blending into his heart.

Yu Wei, meanwhile, was considering whether to start a live stream to earn some money. However, what could she stream? She used to be a food blogger, but resources for food content were scarce. Even if they existed, they would require money to buy, and she couldn’t even afford breakfast.

In this special era, nothing seemed reliable. The most stable job was working in a factory, with steady wages and good benefits, and then finding a good family to marry into afterward.

Individual businesses were recognised by the state as early as 1981, but initially, no one dared to take the risk openly. Most were conservative and hesitant to boldly pursue it.

It wasn’t until recent years that the situation started to improve.

Yu Wei considered herself someone who could endure, but seeing the situation with her little one and the bare living conditions, she felt that stability was no longer feasible.

Could it be stable?

Not to mention high standards for food and clothing, she couldn’t even have basic necessities, like soap for bathing, without sharing with others.

It might be normal for people of this era, but such small things made Yu Wei feel powerless.

With this thought, her fingers unconsciously landed on the ‘JiuMi Live’ app on her phone, and she clicked to enter. She saw that her account had only 1,600 followers, which made her feel immense pressure.

After some hesitation, she finally typed a line and named the live stream cover.

“Come and see! Your Little Fish Tail Streamer has traveled to the 1980s!”
