Chapter 24: Want to join?

Lu Jiaoyang raised an eyebrow.

They were waiting for him?

He was a high-ranking officer.

His schedule, aside from driver Old Zhang, was strictly confidential.

Yet they were able to precisely wait for him on this road.

What did that mean?

It meant that driver Old Zhang had betrayed him!

No!

Impossible!

Lu Jiaoyang immediately dismissed the thought.

Before becoming a driver, Old Zhang was a staunch combat hero in the army. He had faced various tortures from the enemy and had always gritted his teeth, never revealing any secrets.

Old Zhang had only become a driver after being injured and unable to perform those difficult tasks.

He would absolutely not betray him.

Thinking back to the flat tire, and considering that Old Zhang had been driving for many years and was experienced, he would definitely have thoroughly checked the car before setting off. Even if Gu Qingshan had tampered with it, he would have noticed.

After the flat tire, he had volunteered to find someone to repair the car.

Lu Jiaoyang’s mind was clear.

He looked up at the leader, whose build, height, and mannerisms were very much like Gu Qingshan.

Lu Jiaoyang suddenly understood.

The military was trying to help him quickly resolve his personal problems, even resorting to a hero-saves-the-damsel-in-distress tactic.

“Hey, are you deaf? Didn’t you hear what I said?” Seeing Lu Jiaoyang ignoring him, Gu Qingshan anxiously pointed to the mountain and said, “This mountain is mine, these trees were planted by me. If you want to pass, leave the toll!”

“Is that so?”

Lu Jiaoyang curled his lips.

Since they wanted him to play the hero-saves-the-damsel-in-distress act, he wouldn’t be merciful.

He walked towards them step by step.

“Hey, who told you to come over? Go back!” Gu Qingshan pretended to shout loudly as he saw him approaching.

But Lu Jiaoyang wouldn’t listen.

He took out money from his pocket and said provocatively to Gu Qingshan, “Didn’t you want money? Aren’t I sending you some now?”

Gu Qingshan knew from his smile that he had been discovered.

He pressed the knife against Shen Hongxing’s neck and shouted, “Don’t move, I’ll have someone get…”

(A hissing sound)

Before he could finish, the man restraining Shen Hongxing from behind was thrown to the ground by her with an over-the-shoulder throw.

The man lay on the ground, clutching his stomach in pain.

“Boss, she knows martial arts!”

One of them shouted to Gu Qingshan.

Gu Qingshan immediately signaled to his men, and they all rushed towards Shen Hongxing!

“Old San, if you dare to hurt her, I’ll take your lives!” Seeing them rush towards Shen Hongxing, Lu Jiaoyang stepped forward, grabbed Old San, and stopped them.

Old San, in order to make it more realistic, started fighting with him.

Of course, they just wanted their beloved Chief to perform a hero-saves-the-damsel act in front of Shen Hongxing.

However, they never expected that as soon as they got close to Shen Hongxing,

She punched each of them.

Several men were instantly knocked to the ground.

“My goodness…”

Gu Qingshan was so shocked he didn’t dare to open his eyes, fearing it was a hallucination.

Lu Jiaoyang and Old San were stunned on the spot.

Earlier, he had been shocked enough to see Shen Hongxing carrying a mannequin in each hand.

Now, she had taken on six men.

Those who were knocked down were Gu Qingshan’s most capable subordinates, men who had undergone years of training in the army!

What other skills was she hiding from him?

Lu Jiaoyang reacted; Old San was already grabbed by Shen Hongxing.

A man weighing over 180 jin (approximately 237 lbs) was lifted up by her.

“Stop, they’re our own people!”

Lu Jiaoyang tried to stop her, but it was too late. Old San was thrown.

“Ah…” A scream tore through the air.

Shen Hongxing looked at Old San lying on the ground, incredulous, “You said they’re your own people?”

Lu Jiaoyang rebuked Gu Qingshan, “Take off your mask!”

Gu Qingshan obediently took off his mask.

Shen Hongxing couldn’t believe it. She had actually beaten a group of officers?

She laughed and cried, “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were…”

“It’s not your fault!” Lu Jiaoyang angrily kicked Gu Qingshan, “It’s all your doing!”

Gu Qingshan was extremely wronged.

He had clearly been trying to complete the task assigned by his grandfather, to allow Lu Jiaoyang to perform a heroic rescue, but he had been counter-attacked by a little girl.

If this got out, wouldn’t the commanders of other units laugh him to death?

Just then, Old Zhang returned, bringing the repairman.

Several people were injured to varying degrees. Lu Jiaoyang was worried, so he sent Old Zhang directly to the military hospital.

After an examination, the doctor said, “Chief Lu, their injuries aren’t serious. A few days of rest and they’ll be fine!”

Shen Hongxing breathed a sigh of relief.  She patted her chest…

She patted her chest to comfort herself. Thankfully, nothing serious happened; otherwise, she would have been in big trouble.

Taking advantage of Lu Jiaoyang’s inattention, she left the examination room.

As soon as she reached the door, she ran into Shen Jianguo and his wife.

“You dead girl, what are you doing at the hospital?” Seeing Shen Hongxing, Shen Jianguo looked at her defensively and warned her in a harsh voice, “You wouldn’t have come to the hospital to see Ping’an after hearing he was injured, would you? I’m telling you, you’ve already broken off your engagement with Ping’an. Stay away from him. Your sister is the one who should marry into the Lu family!”

“Lu Ping’an is injured?” Shen Hongxing frowned.

Shen Jianguo sneered disdainfully, “Pretending? If you didn’t know, would you have rushed to the military hospital to see him?”

“Who told you I came here to see him!” Shen Hongxing retorted directly.

Worried that Shen Hongxing would ignore their objections and go to the ward to see Lu Ping’an, Mother Shen immediately grabbed Shen Hongxing’s wrist and dragged her out, “I’m telling you, your sister is taking care of Ping’an, you’re not allowed to disturb them!”

They had seen Lu Ping’an’s distraught state in the ward just now.

They absolutely couldn’t let Shen Hongxing go to Lu Ping’an; they couldn’t let them get back together.

Whatever Jiaojiao wants, she gets.

Only what Jiaojiao doesn’t want can go to Shen Hongxing.

Shen Hongxing shook her off, “Let go!”

They had no relationship anymore; why did they still want to control her?

“You dead girl, why are you always disobedient!” Mother Shen pounced on Shen Hongxing and started pinching her.

A stern shout.

It was Lu Jiaoyang.

Finding that Shen Hongxing had left, he immediately chased after her, unexpectedly witnessing this scene.

He angrily stepped forward, shielding Shen Hongxing behind him.

His face tight, he questioned Shen Jianguo and his wife, “Why are you here?”

“It’s Chief Lu!” Father Shen immediately became obsequious, a stark contrast to his attitude towards Shen Hongxing just now. “Chief Lu is here to see Ping’an, right? Chief Lu, don’t worry, Ping’an just has a slight concussion. Jiaojiao is taking care of him in the ward!”

Lu Ping’an?

Lu Jiaoyang casually asked, “What happened to Ping’an?”

Regardless, Lu Ping’an was his older brother’s son. He was only three years older than Lu Ping’an, and they had grown up together.

Apart from this recent incident, Lu Ping’an had always listened to him.

They still had feelings for each other.

“What? Chief Lu doesn’t know?” Shen Jianguo sized up Lu Jiaoyang’s expression, paused, and said, “Ping’an accidentally slipped and fell and hit his head today!”

Hearing this, Lu Jiaoyang went to Shen Hongxing and asked her, “I’ll go see him, will you…”
