Chapter 45

“Captain Luo, thank you for Hongxia.”

Shen Hongxing bowed deeply.

Captain Luo’s words were cold, but his actions were warm.

Knowing that the past would affect Cao Hongxia’s life, he had everyone leave during Dai Chunhua’s confession.

Only he, she, and Dai Chunhua were in the interrogation room.

He personally sealed the confession and submitted it.

He preserved Hongxia’s dignity.

She was grateful.

“Miss Shen, Cao is lucky to have you as a friend,” Captain Luo’s eyes showed admiration.

He didn’t expect such a strong friendship to exist outside of the military.

“It’s my luck to know her,” Shen Hongxing said softly.

If Cao Hongxia and the others hadn’t taken her in, she wouldn’t have a place to stay.

She wouldn’t have experienced such sincere friendship.

It showed her life could be beautiful.

Knowing Shen Hongxing wanted to go to Haicheng, Gu Qingshan sent her there by car.

Haicheng Military Region General Hospital.

“Chief! Chief!”

Lu Jiaoyang was outside the emergency room.

Cao Hongxia had another crisis.  The experts were about to give up, but Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi begged them to try one last time.

If this failed, they would give up completely.

Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi hugged each other, finding comfort in their embrace.

Hearing the guard, Lu Jiaoyang came over, “What is it?”

“Miss Shen is here!”

Shen Hongxing?

Lu Jiaoyang didn’t expect her so soon. He ran towards the hospital entrance.

Shen Hongxing was stopped outside.

She saw Lu Jiaoyang running towards her.

She wanted to run and hug him, but she stopped herself.

Lu Jiaoyang was outstanding, the pride of the Lu family and the army.

How could she dare to think of him?

Besides, he was her elder.  It couldn’t happen.

She stood there.

Lu Jiaoyang stopped before her.

It felt like a century had passed, even though it had only been two days.

Shen Hongxing was most concerned about Cao Hongxia, “Chief Lu, how is Hongxia?”

He desperately wanted to hug her and tell her how much he missed her, but he didn’t.

He knew Shen Hongxing wanted to see Cao Hongxia.

Taking her hand, he ran towards the emergency room, “She’s in crisis again. Come!”

Hongxia was already out of the emergency room.

The doctor sighed, “It’s her final moments. Say goodbye.”

“Hongxia, are you leaving us? Don’t you want to be with us?” Xu Shuangshuang had cried until there were no more tears.

Chen Jiayi sat blankly beside Cao Hongxia.

She seemed lost.

She murmured, “Hongxia, were you tired of living? If it hurts, go peacefully.”

“Don’t worry. We’ll be okay with the boss. We’ll work hard. We’ll visit your grave during holidays and bring your favorite meat buns!”

The door opened.

Shen Hongxing stood at the doorway. The silence in the room felt like a hole in her heart.

It hurt so much.

They didn’t rush to hug her and call her “Boss” like before.

They sat motionless beside Cao Hongxia’s bed.

Shen Hongxing slowly approached.

Cao Hongxia lay pale, the heart monitor removed.

“I’m here!”

She took Cao Hongxia’s hand; it was cold.  She trembled, “You shouldn’t have left yet.”

The room was silent.

Shen Hongxing sniffed, holding back her tears.

She brushed Cao Hongxia’s hair, forcing a smile, “You love beauty.  Why didn’t you dress up before leaving?”

“Boss, stop,”

Xu Shuangshuang’s voice was hoarse.

“Hongxia, the boss rushed here, not to say goodbye!  I have something to tell you,” Shen Hongxing leaned close, whispering, “I caught Dai Chunhua using your evidence. I also arranged for Qiao Dazhuang to be buried in his hometown…”

As far as she knew, Qiao Dazhuang had never harmed Cao Hongxia.

He had helped her escape.

Cao Hongxia probably wanted to repay him but didn’t dare.

Chen Jiayi stood up and scolded Cao Hongxia, “Cao Hongxia, the boss rushed here to see you, and you’re just lying there? Can’t you open your eyes and talk to her?”

It would ease her pain.

She said angrily, “Cao Hongxia, you said we were best friends! You broke your promise and left us!  I won’t forgive you unless you apologize!”

The doctor sadly said, “Miss Xu, I’m sorry, your friend has passed away. Please accept my condolences.”

A nurse brought a sheet to cover Cao Hongxia.

Shen Hongxing hugged Cao Hongxia, “Don’t cover her!”

The sheet signified death.

Shen Hongxing held Cao Hongxia’s face, crying, “Hongxia, please wake up! You won’t have another chance…”

“Hongxia, wake up! We won’t have another chance!” Xu Shuangshuang hugged her.

Chen Jiayi stared blankly at Cao Hongxia.

The doctor asked Lu Jiaoyang, “Chief Lu…”

The doctor and nurses waited outside.

Lu Jiaoyang couldn’t bear to watch and left.

After a while, Shen Hongxing released Cao Hongxia.

Wiping her tears, she said to Xu Shuangshuang and Chen Jiayi, “Hongxia didn’t get to wear the new clothes she bought.

Let’s buy her some clothes and makeup.

Even if she’s leaving, she should look beautiful!”
