Chapter 26: Complete Blacklisting
The handsome man with a noble appearance slightly lowered his gaze, following the line of sight to the crumpled collar of his shirt.
That night’s drunk little kitten resurfaced in his mind.
It was the same pretty face, with moist eyes, looking delicate and innocent, but those soft little hands kept reaching inside his shirt.
Her well-manicured fingertips gave a ticklish sensation, like the tail of a kitten, brushing from his chest to his abs.
If he didn’t stop her, it seemed like she would go further.
Touching places she shouldn’t be touching…
Pei Heng smiled faintly.
He bent slightly, closing the distance between them.
His deep, night-like eyes completely reflected the small figure before him, long lashes casting a shadow beneath his eyes.
His voice held a hint of indulgence, a half-smile on his lips:
“Yaoyao should indeed apologize to me.”
The beautiful little beauty didn’t understand his deeper meaning. Her cheeks remained faintly flushed as she instinctively pursed her red lips, biting her lower lip so that it appeared soft and tempting.
Under his intense gaze, she gathered her courage, raised her small, glowing hands, and gently straightened his wrinkled collar.
Her movements were incredibly gentle, cautious.
The space between them was so small that it seemed like one more movement and their noses would touch, their lips would meet.
It felt as if, if she wanted, he could pull his little fairy into his arms and kiss her…
Pei Heng’s Adam’s apple quickly dropped, the muscles in his arm tensing.
When his beloved little fairy had carefully straightened his collar, she raised her small, flawless face, smiled lightly, and said softly:
“Mr. Pei, my apology.”
That night, Pei Heng had another strange dream.
He stood in a god-like perspective, watching two mangy stray dogs barking wildly at his little fairy.
Pei Heng furrowed his brow but hadn’t had a chance to speak when he saw himself morph into a mighty tiger, lunging in front of Yaoyao.
His sharp claws glistened.
With one swipe,
The two stray dogs turned into mush.
The progress of the filming crew was fast.
It took half a month to select the actors, and after the main cast was assembled, they didn’t rush to start filming.
Gu Jinling gathered everyone together and started studying the script.
When the official photos were released, they immediately went viral on social media, sparking a huge debate.
“It’s such a pity, Jiang Yaoyao always sticks to Teacher Wei like glue, and now they’re collaborating, isn’t Teacher Wei going to be exhausted?”
“Wei Changze’s young general look suits him so well, I’m in love!”
“What a luxurious cast! Top male actor Wei Changze as the childhood friend, top-tier actor Si Minghe as the loyal subordinate, Jiang Yaoyao is going to win big!”
“Seriously, why pick Jiang Yaoyao? Are there no suitable actresses left in the industry?”
“Does no one find it strange? Jiang Yaoyao doesn’t even have any notable work, she just parachuted into the lead role. Is she royalty or something?”
“LOL, what’s Jiang Yaoyao’s background? She just released some private messages, but they were deleted within three seconds?”
…
The discussions on social media were heating up, and The Imperial Palace garnered plenty of attention, causing great anticipation from the audience.
Gu Jinling waved his hand and rented a spacious flat from Yu Ping to serve as a temporary meeting room. After breaking into smaller groups, the preparation work for the production started smoothly.
Jiang Yaoyao, holding the script, attentively listened to the director.
A knock came at the door, and someone’s assistant shouted:
“Teacher Jiang, someone is looking for you!”
In the crowd, the petite beauty, wearing a misty blue dress, looked like a blue iris swaying in the valley. Her large, watery eyes blinked without wavering as she looked at the director.
“Director, what’s next?”
Gu Jinling slapped the script on his knee and gestured for her to look toward the door.
Jiang Yaoyao turned around in confusion and spotted a familiar face. The person called out to her:
“Teacher Jiang, someone is looking for you outside!”
Jiang Yaoyao blinked.
She only realized a moment later that the person was calling her!
Stepping out the door, she saw a slender figure at a distance, covering her mouth, joking with the crew:
“Really? Yaoyao is this good-tempered on set?”
“She’s not like this at home. At home, her temper is quite fierce.”
The exaggerated tone made Jiang Yaoyao feel repulsed.
Upon seeing Jiang Yaoyao, the crew members awkwardly greeted her.
Everyone knew that once this drama was finished, Jiang Yaoyao would be a major star.
She might even win awards and become a hot young actress.
The person who had just called herself Jiang Yaoyao’s sister was clearly trying to stick to her and say some suspicious things.
Seeing Jiang Yaoyao approach, the staff quickly greeted her warmly:
“Teacher Jiang, please come here!”
“This lady said she’s your sister, and she came to find you.”
Jiang Yaoyao nodded, and the person quickly fled the scene.
Jiang Wanyi’s smile seemed a little forced.
As a young woman from a prestigious family, she naturally looked down on the entertainment industry.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have tried to get her parents to change Jiang Yaoyao’s career path.
Luckily, Jiang Yaoyao didn’t disappoint her. After entering the entertainment industry, she barely managed to get any good roles and only received criticism.
Jiang Wanyi had originally thought that Jiang Yaoyao’s life would end like this.
But unexpectedly, in just a few months, Jiang Yaoyao had gotten involved with Pei Heng and landed a role in a top-tier director’s most prestigious project.
Even an outsider like her knew that Gu Jinling’s name was a golden ticket, guaranteeing ratings.
Jiang Yaoyao was a nobody with no talent. How could such a famous director pick her?
She must have done something to please Pei Heng to get this opportunity.
Jiang Wanyi gritted her teeth in secret, her jealousy intensifying.
But no matter how much hatred she felt, she still kept a sweet and graceful smile on her face:
“Yaoyao, your sister came to visit you!”
Jiang Wanyi spoke as she moved closer to Jiang Yaoyao, about to hook her arm around hers.
The misty blue skirt swirled through the air in an arc, and Jiang Yaoyao took a step sideways, avoiding the other’s gesture.
Her pretty face was expressionless, and her voice was cold.
“What do you want?”
Noticing the gazes around them, Jiang Wanyi lowered her eyes, showing a somewhat hurt expression.
“Yaoyao, are you mad at me?”
“But I’ve already been punished…”
She spoke as she rolled up the sleeves of her clothes, revealing a few bruises on her snow-white arms, as if left by bumps and scrapes.
— That day, Pei Heng had told her and her mother to get lost. At first, she thought he was just angry, but to her surprise, those people listened to him so obediently, directly knocking her and her mother to the ground, forcing them to crawl out of the store.
Fortunately, that was a high-end private restaurant, with no traffic around.
Otherwise, they would have been completely humiliated.
Jiang Wanyi suppressed the deep hatred inside her and smiled bitterly, miserably.
“That day was my fault, I was too concerned about you with my mother, and that made things go wrong. I caused the scene.”
“But we were doing it for your own good, Yaoyao. Can you just let it go?”
Jiang Yaoyao, with her delicate, beautiful face, tilted her head, gazing at Jiang Wanyi.
Her appearance was striking, and her pure eyes made her look even more adorable when she tilted her head.
Yet, her soft voice carried a decisive tone.
“Jiang Wanyi, have you lost your mind?”
Jiang Wanyi’s face changed color.
“You did something wrong, so you were punished. What does that have to do with me?”
“Why should I be responsible for it?”
The words Jiang Wanyi wanted to say stuck in her throat.
She glanced at the surrounding crowd, her expression becoming more pitiful.
“Yaoyao, my sister and mother really did this for your sake. You’ll understand when you grow up.”
“It was all my fault, I was too impulsive that day. You can blame me, but please don’t blame my mother, okay?”
The delicate beauty shook her head and sighed lightly.
“Jiang Wanyi, you’re the one who’s the real green tea—throwing yourself at people, only to get rejected.”
Someone who was nearby organizing props couldn’t hold back and snickered.
Jiang Wanyi’s face grew even more unpleasant.
Ever since Jiang Yaoyao had met her, she had always been the one on the losing side.
But in these past few days, Jiang Wanyi had repeatedly been humiliated by Jiang Yaoyao.
Given Jiang Wanyi’s temper, she should have exploded by now, ready to teach her a lesson.
But Jiang Yaoyao had connections with Pei Heng, which made her bite her tongue.
If it weren’t for the fact that Jiang Yaoyao had Pei Heng’s information, and if she and her mother still hoped Jiang Yaoyao could introduce them to him, Jiang Wanyi would have slapped Jiang Yaoyao by now.
Jiang Wanyi’s beautifully painted face changed expressions several times before finally returning to normal.
“Whatever you say about me, I have no complaints.”
“But that day was a huge blow to my mother, and she has been bedridden ever since.”
“But I heard you successfully joined the crew, and that made my mother really happy. She forced herself to get out of bed to make some snacks for you, and asked me to bring them to you—”
As she spoke, Jiang Wanyi handed over the delicate little box in her hand.
She smiled, but her eyes were filled with disdain.
Jiang Yaoyao was clearly desperate for affection.
When she returned to the Jiang family that year, she ran around trying to please her parents, but what was the use? No matter how much she tried, just a few ambiguous words could make her parents utterly reject her.
A bumpkin from a poor district—who would care about her in high society?
Even her biological parents thought she wasn’t good enough.
Jiang Wanyi lowered her eyes, focusing on the colorful packaging, hiding the sneer in her gaze.
It was just a worthless little fool with shallow eyelids.
That year, when her mother had given her the burnt biscuits like a charity, she couldn’t even bear to eat them. Instead, she wrapped them up and put them in the cupboard.
Now, facing such a box of small biscuits, Jiang Yaoyao should probably be overjoyed to tears, right?
The little beauty across from her smiled sweetly, showing a charming grin.
Jiang Wanyi’s eyes filled with even more disdain.
She handed the box forward again, and Jiang Yaoyao’s soft voice rang out, cutting through the tension.
“Your mother made these snacks for you. What are you giving me?”
“Do you think this is a garbage dump?”
Jiang Wanyi froze, her eyes hardening with anger as she glared at Jiang Yaoyao.
“Jiang Yaoyao—”
“Are you really this impatient?”
The little beauty tilted her almond-shaped eyes, her flower-like lips opening and closing.
“Jiang Wanyi, your acting is so poor.”
Countless gazes turned toward Jiang Wanyi, like swords piercing her. She felt utterly humiliated, throwing the box on the ground and storming away.
At that moment, a loud male voice interrupted.
“Jiang Yaoyao, how can you speak like that?”
Jiang Wanyi paused, turning to see the source of the voice.
“Director X,” Jiang Yaoyao responded.
Was this the famous golden director, Gu Jinling?
Jiang Wanyi’s heart stirred, and she quickly turned back, putting on a look of injury, hoping for help from Gu Jinling.
Gu Jinling gave her an assuring smile, then turned to Jiang Yaoyao.
“Yaoyao, how can you be so quick to rush her out?”
“That’s really too much!”
As the director approached, the crowd began to gather, drawing more and more people in, until it was almost impossible to move.
But Gu Jinling was reprimanding Jiang Yaoyao.
Jiang Wanyi felt secretly pleased, wishing even more people would come.
She put on an expression of gratitude, looking at Gu Jinling with expectation.
Gu Jinling waved his hand behind him and pulled out an actress.
“Hurry up!”
Gu Jinling dragged the actress forward, pointing at Jiang Wanyi.
“Xiao Yu, did you see that? This is how you play a white lotus role!”
“Jiang Wanyi, right?”
Gu Jinling smiled and nodded at the frozen Jiang Wanyi.
“Miss Jiang Bailian is giving you a personal demonstration. Why don’t you thank her?”
The crowd burst into laughter.
Jiang Wanyi’s face turned completely green.
Furious, she tried to turn and leave, but heard the cheerful male voice again.
“Doesn’t Teacher Jiang Wanyi want to continue teaching Xiao Yu?”
“Look, Xiao Yu, this is the classic white lotus who’s furious with shame. Got it?”
Jiang Wanyi’s steps faltered, her face flushed with anger as she climbed the stairs.
Faintly, she heard the detestable Gu Jinling shouting after her.
“Wait a second… why is Miss Jiang Bailian throwing trash everywhere?”
The sharp sound of high heels faded away.
Gu Jinling’s playful smile faded, and he scanned the crowd, his voice stern.
“What happened today must not leave anyone’s mouth in our crew.”
“Anyone who leaks it will be completely blacklisted.”
Once the crowd dispersed, Gu Jinling clicked his tongue, pulled out his phone, and whispered into the call.
“Did you enjoy that, my dear nephew?”
