Chapter 34: Blushing
The person in his arms trembled upon hearing his words, her small body stiffening, and her delicate little face filled with tension.
She quickly raised her tiny hands to cover Pei Heng’s mouth.
But it was too late.
The words had already been spoken, and silence filled the air.
Outside the door, Wei Changze remained quiet, lost in thought.
Pei Heng, his lips covered by a pair of soft, small hands, half-lowered his eyes and looked at the little beauty pressed tightly against his chest. His gaze darkened for a moment.
His Yaoyao was obediently clinging to him for the first time.
Her soft body carried a delicate fragrance, and her slender waist felt like it could be broken with a touch.
She was so soft, as if she had no bones.
Holding her like this, his arms unconsciously tightened around her.
He had dreamed of this moment countless times.
But now that it was real, the scene before him made him feel oddly dazed.
It was as if he and his Yaoyao were always meant to be like this.
She was supposed to fit perfectly in his embrace.
They were meant to become one.
“Where? Xiao Wei, you must have misheard!”
Gu Jinling’s carefree voice broke the silence, followed by the sound of a door opening.
“Come, come, didn’t you need to change clothes? Use my room!”
Outside, Wei Changze remained silent as the director pushed him into the next room.
“Pei Heng, what did you say you were treating me to for lunch?”
Gu Jinling had finished changing but showed no intention of leaving.
Standing at the doorway, he eagerly asked, “I remember you have a chef at home who’s great at Hangzhou cuisine. Can you ask him to make me a few signature dishes?”
Jiang Yaoyao, finally snapping out of her daze, removed her hands from Pei Heng’s mouth. Her face was now completely flushed, her long eyelashes trembling uncontrollably.
Pei Heng stared at the girl in his arms, his voice deep and slow.
“Alright.”
His gaze was so intense that Jiang Yaoyao felt like she was about to catch fire under it.
For a fleeting moment, she even suspected that if she looked up, Pei Heng would kiss her.
The more she thought about it, the redder her face became.
The heat spread to her ears.
Jiang Yaoyao pressed her lips together, her eyes darting away.
She still remembered how she had instinctively curled up against Pei Heng’s chest.
Her face burning, she subtly wriggled her body, trying to discreetly slip away.
The next second, a large hand wrapped around her waist.
It effortlessly restrained her movement.
The little beauty lifted her flushed face, meeting the depths of Pei Heng’s dark, unreadable eyes.
Pei Heng was already looking down at her.
This was a great opportunity.
Before stepping out earlier, he had stuffed a document into the drawer.
But with his excellent memory, he quickly recalled a collection of classic domineering CEO lines that could suit this moment.
His mind wavered between:
“Woman, do you know you’re playing with fire?”
“You started this, so you better put it out.”
“You troublesome little thing, what am I supposed to do with you?”
These lines were incredibly cringeworthy.
After a moment of silence, Pei Heng chose the least ridiculous one.
“Don’t move.”
His voice was husky, his gaze locking onto the little beauty in his arms as he leaned in closer.
His scorching breath sent shivers through her chest.
His eyes, deep and passionate, seemed capable of drowning someone in them.
His breath was uneven yet lingering.
He raised a hand, firmly gripping her delicate waist, his voice controlled but full of emotion.
“Yaoyao, don’t test me.”
“If you keep moving, I can’t guarantee what will happen.”
Jiang Yaoyao’s face was now completely crimson, her heart pounding like a drum.
Pei Heng didn’t even need to say those words.
She already didn’t dare to move.
Even if he let go, she remained frozen in the same posture, as if someone had pressed a pressure point on her.
After all—
When they were pressed together just now, that sensation had been terrifying.
—
Outside the door, Gu Jinling kept talking.
It seemed like he was determined to wait for Pei Heng to come out so they could leave together.
The others had already left one by one.
Wei Changze had also finished changing. He stepped out of the dressing room, his face cold under his sunglasses, looking particularly displeased.
His gaze kept flickering toward the tightly shut dressing room door, his lips pressed into a tight line, his entire face stiff with tension.
That expression—
Was like a powerless husband catching his wife in the act of cheating.
But their chatty director wouldn’t stop rambling.
“Xiao Wei, are you coming to eat with us?”
Wei Changze stiffly threw out two words: “No.”
Then he turned and left.
Gu Jinling clicked his tongue, thinking kids these days were really unpredictable.
After pacing around twice, he suddenly felt like he had been waiting for too long.
He knocked on the dressing room door.
“Pei Heng, are you done yet? It’s just eight pairs of pants, how long does it take to put them on?”
“What the hell are you doing in there—”
The wooden door creaked open.
A strikingly handsome man blocked his view and promptly turned Gu Jinling around, pushing him forward.
“Let’s go.”
Gu Jinling was confused.
As Pei Heng nudged him forward, Gu faintly heard something knock against the door behind them.
Just as he was about to turn his head, the little brat Pei Heng blocked his vision again, forcibly redirecting his head.
“Didn’t you want Hangzhou cuisine? What do you want to eat?”
Gu Jinling got distracted. “Can they make West Lake vinegar fish? But the ingredients aren’t readily available. Have them air-flown in. I’ll stay for dinner too…”
He continued rambling.
Pei Heng occasionally responded with an “Mm.”
As they exited the hallway, the tall man subtly turned his head, revealing his sharp profile.
Behind him, the little beauty—her face still tinged with pink—quietly waved at him.
Pei Heng curved his eyes and mouthed a reply.
“See you later.”
—
Jiang Yaoyao decided to go to the restroom to wash her face.
Her face was burning too much—so hot and red, as if it had been set on fire.
Perhaps the impact of what just happened was too strong.
Even though some time had passed, the lingering sensation hadn’t faded.
The more she thought about it, the redder her ears became.
She clutched her clothes and turned a corner—almost bumping into a broad chest.
Jiang Yaoyao looked up.
Wei Changze stood there with his arms crossed, wearing oversized black sunglasses. It was unclear how long he had been waiting.
Seeing her approach, his expression darkened even further, his temper visibly foul.
“I know you were in there just now.”
She’d been caught.
But she was only changing clothes—she hadn’t done anything wrong.
Why was Wei Changze always following her around, lecturing her?
Jiang Yaoyao lifted her delicate little face, her watery eyes glowing with defiance.
Her soft voice carried a hint of irritation.
“So what?”
Wei Changze gritted his teeth. “So what?”
His expression grew even darker.
“Jiang Yaoyao, don’t you know how to respect yourself?”
“You followed Pei Heng into the men’s dressing room to change clothes. What exactly were you two doing in that fitting room?”
Wei Changze’s voice grew heavier.
He lowered his head and swept his gaze over Jiang Yaoyao, whose face was dusted with powder. Seeing the affectionate look in her eyes now, his temples throbbed with anger.
Jiang Yaoyao pursed her lips. “I didn’t do anything.”
“Didn’t do anything? Do you take me for a fool, Jiang Yaoyao?”
Wei Changze braced one arm against the wall, his gaze sharp like a blade, slowly sweeping over every inch of Jiang Yaoyao’s exposed skin.
No kiss marks on her neck—so they only kissed on the lips?
Jiang Yaoyao’s lips were so red, so soft—they must be wonderful to kiss. That beast in human skin, Pei Heng, surely couldn’t control himself!
He must have kissed her!
Maybe even more than once!
The more Wei Changze thought about it, the worse it got, and the angrier he became.
He completely forgot that he was the one who had kept Jiang Yaoyao hanging before, repeatedly rejecting her advances.
Now, he deeply regretted it.
Before, he hadn’t even held Jiang Yaoyao’s small hand!
Jiang Yaoyao felt a chill run down her spine under his intense gaze.
She stepped to the side, trying to move past him.
But who would have thought that Wei Changze, like a persistent leech, would also step to the side, continuing to block her way?
Even with the best temper, Jiang Yaoyao couldn’t hold it in anymore.
She lifted her misty eyes, her voice deliberately lowered, sounding muffled but fierce as she questioned him:
“What exactly do you want, Wei Changze?!”
“Move! I need to go to the restroom!”
She shouldn’t have said that.
The moment the words left her mouth, Wei Changze was practically exploding.
Right now, he looked like a jealous husband, spreading his arms wide to block Jiang Yaoyao, gritting his teeth.
“Jiang Yaoyao, look at yourself right now!”
“You need to go to the restroom? Why do you need to go to the restroom?”
The little beauty, her face flushed like the morning glow, looked at him as if he were a lunatic.
But Wei Changze was oblivious, continuing to press her one word at a time:
“What exactly did Pei Heng do to you just now? Why do you need to go to the restroom right now?”
“Did he touch you?”
Jiang Yaoyao blinked slowly.
When she realized what he was insinuating, her mind buzzed, and a wave of fury shot straight to the top of her head, making her face flush even redder.
She raised her hand swiftly and delivered a crisp slap to Wei Changze’s face.
His head didn’t even tilt, but his sunglasses shifted slightly.
A clear handprint appeared on his cheek. Wei Changze reached up, took off his sunglasses, and lowered his head again.
He looked at Jiang Yaoyao with an aggrieved expression.
“Crazy. You’re seriously insane.”
The little beauty pursed her red lips, cursing him in a soft and delicate voice.
Wei Changze ignored her, staring straight at her without letting her leave.
She moved to the side; he followed.
With his tall frame and long arms, he effortlessly blocked her path.
Jiang Yaoyao was so furious her eyes turned red. “What do you want, Wei Changze?!”
Wei Changze kept his mouth shut, standing still as Jiang Yaoyao slapped him a few more times, unmoving.
After all, Jiang Yaoyao was small and weak.
Her slaps felt no more painful than a cat scratching him.
After a long while, when Jiang Yaoyao had vented her anger with a few more slaps, Wei Changze finally brought up the matter again:
“You still haven’t answered my question.”
“Answer me, and I’ll let you go immediately.”
Realizing what question he was referring to, Jiang Yaoyao’s face turned crimson.
She couldn’t believe someone like him existed.
Wei Changze was completely insane.
“Nothing happened! Nothing at all!”
Jiang Yaoyao snapped, shoving him angrily, her soft voice tinged with frustration:
“The light in the women’s changing room is broken, and a worker was fixing it. Pei Heng was just being kind and stood outside to watch over me while I changed clothes.”
“I’m going to the restroom now to wash my hands and face. Does that answer satisfy you?”
Wei Changze furrowed his brows tightly.
He hadn’t expected this answer.
When he had imagined what might have happened in the changing room earlier, his mind had conjured up a thousand different scenarios, each one making his heart pound with fury.
Either Jiang Yaoyao had been seduced by Pei Heng, that rich old man, and done something foolish…
Or Pei Heng had coerced her…
Or maybe Jiang Yaoyao had compromised to marry into wealth…
He had considered every possibility—except this one.
“If you don’t believe me, you can go check the women’s changing room right now.”
Jiang Yaoyao gave him another hard shove.
“A good dog doesn’t block the road—move, Wei Changze!”
Wei Changze froze for a moment, and Jiang Yaoyao finally managed to slip past him and run off.
It took him a long moment to react before he quickly strode toward the women’s changing room.
It was only about ten meters away, but before he even reached the door, he heard men’s voices inside.
Pushing the door open, he locked eyes with two workers standing on a ladder repairing the light.
Wei Changze’s eyes lit up.
After muttering an apology, he quickly left.
Jiang Yaoyao hadn’t lied to him this time!
He had been out of line.
He had wronged her!
—
After changing her clothes, Jiang Yaoyao walked out of the hall and spotted a somewhat familiar figure.
The person respectfully bowed upon seeing her.
“Miss Jiang, Mr. Pei asked me to bring you over.”
Jiang Yaoyao nodded and got into the car.
The estate was vast—the equestrian field was in the west, while Pei Heng’s private villa was in the east. Walking there would take a long time.
After riding horses all morning, she’d probably be exhausted if she had to walk.
As soon as she sat down, she leaned back against the seat, Pei Heng’s face flashing in her mind.
At times, it was the young Pei Heng from her dream last night.
At others, it was the cold and violent villain from the book.
Eventually, the two faces merged into one—the handsome man with a faint smile in his eyes.
Pei Heng was incredibly thoughtful, taking care of everything for her.
Jiang Yaoyao’s long eyelashes trembled slightly.
He really was quite good to her.
—
When she entered the living room, Pei Heng and Gu Jinling were playing chess.
Seeing her, Gu Jinling immediately got up, casually messing up the board.
“Not playing, not playing! This brat keeps winning—so boring.”
“Lost to you in horse riding this morning, lost to him in chess at noon… Seems like I’ve spent my whole day getting bullied by you two!”
Pei Heng shook his head helplessly, his gaze settling on the petite figure at the door, his smile deepening.
“Time for Hangzhou cuisine!”
Gu Jinling had just finished speaking when he suddenly let out a dramatic wail:
“Pei Heng! What’s up with your chef? Did he mess up the order?”
“Why is there nothing I like on this entire table?!”
