Chapter 43: Applying Medicine
Imperial Capital Private Hospital.
The hospital director, dressed in a white coat, hurried down the hallway with a group of senior doctors and professors, their strides swift and purposeful.
Inside the consultation room, a tall and well-built man sat on the sofa, his long legs crossed.
Beside him, the delicate beauty had reddened eyes, looking as if she had just cried.
Last night, it had been too dark, and Pei Heng had acted too naturally—so naturally that she hadn’t realized how badly he was injured.
It wasn’t until today, after getting in the car and upon the assistant’s inquiry, that Jiang Yaoyao insisted on seeing his injuries. Only then did she notice the bruises covering the areas where he had hit himself while rolling down the mountainside with her in his arms.
The large patches of bruising were shocking to look at.
She couldn’t imagine how much pain he must be in.
Yet, Pei Heng hadn’t uttered a single word of complaint.
Outside, the sound of hurried footsteps approached, and soon, a group of people in white coats pushed open the door and entered, making the previously spacious consultation room suddenly feel crowded.
The hospital director, leading the group, looked at Pei Heng with concern and inquired with great urgency,
“Mr. Pei, where are you injured? I called in several specialists—tell us where you’re feeling discomfort, and they will examine you.”
Pei Heng, his expression indifferent, lifted his gaze slightly. He pushed aside the people standing in front of Jiang Yaoyao and instructed the hospital director,
“Let the dermatologist check on her first.”
Only then did the crowd notice the other person sitting on the sofa.
She was stunning—like one of those celebrities who frequently appeared on trending searches.
Her lips were rosy, her teeth pearly white, and her bright eyes shimmered like clear water.
Her eyes were still wet with tears, and the rims were red, making her look as if she had been bullied. Even her voice, soft and delicate, carried an air of authority as she spoke,
“I don’t want to.”
“You go first.”
No one had ever dared to command Mr. Pei.
And no one had ever dared to speak to him in such a tone.
The hospital director awkwardly rubbed his nose, pretending not to have heard anything.
Several young doctors standing nearby couldn’t hide their shock, staring at the naive little beauty who clearly had no idea how the world worked.
She might be pretty, but she was clearly foolish.
Daring to speak to Mr. Pei like that—was she not afraid of falling out of favor?
But the very next second, the man’s response nearly made them drop their jaws.
“Alright.”
The ever-cold and stoic Mr. Pei, who rarely spoke more than necessary, actually had a gentle smile in his eyes as he coaxed her in a deep, soothing voice,
“We’ll get checked together, okay?”
Only then did the red-eyed little beauty nod reluctantly, agreeing.
Since Pei Heng’s examination required removing his shirt, the doctors took him to another room.
Jiang Yaoyao remained seated on the sofa, sitting properly as she awaited her check-up.
Even though the dermatologist in charge was burning with curiosity, he dared not ask unnecessary questions. Knowing full well that failing to diagnose her properly could result in Pei Heng’s wrath, he steeled himself for the challenge and asked with the determination of a man ready to stake everything on this consultation,
“Miss Jiang, please describe your symptoms.”
Perhaps his overly serious expression made her a little nervous.
But after a brief moment, that nervousness turned into embarrassment.
The little beauty in front of him bit her lip with a hint of shame, lifted her pant leg slightly, and pointed at her ankle.
“I have a small injury here.”
“Please wait a moment, let me take a look—”
Normally, he didn’t need glasses since his prescription was only mild.
But given that this young woman had been personally brought here by Mr. Pei, he had to take it seriously. So, he put on his glasses before bending down to examine the injury.
“Let’s see here…”
A few short seconds passed—maybe three, maybe five.
Then, the young doctor straightened up, his eyes filled with disbelief.
His voice even stuttered a little.
“T-This tiny injury?”
Jiang Yaoyao felt extremely awkward.
She had already insisted that she was fine and didn’t need to see a doctor, but Pei Heng had been adamant about it.
He had even said that the mountain wasn’t clean, and if she had a scratch, she could get tetanus—what a hassle that would be.
Jiang Yaoyao took the opportunity to sneak a glance at her ankle.
She wasn’t sure about the tetanus part.
But if they had arrived any later, her wound would probably have healed on its own.
Inside the consultation room, the doctor and patient sat across from each other, staring at one another in silence.
After a brief stalemate, the doctor was the first to speak. “I’ll prescribe you some medication. Just apply it, and it’ll be fine.”
“There’s no need for oral medication.”
Honestly, he was worried that by the time the medicine took effect, her injury would have already disappeared.
Jiang Yaoyao quickly nodded, eager to put an end to this awkward situation.
“Okay, okay, just prescribe it.”
The doctor swiftly wrote out the prescription.
Once the checkup was over, he got up and headed to the door. A nurse took the prescription slip and left. Before long, there was a knock on the door.
Jiang Yaoyao assumed it was the nurse bringing the medicine and immediately said, “Come in.”
The doorknob turned, and when Jiang Yaoyao looked up, a tall figure was reflected in her bright eyes.
“Mr. Pei, is your examination finished?”
“It’s done, nothing serious.”
The tall man strode in with his long, straight legs.
“I was prescribed some medicine to promote blood circulation and reduce bruising—just need to take it, and I’ll be fine.”
“When I came out, I saw the nurse bringing your medicine over.”
Pei Heng raised his hand, revealing a tube of medication in his palm.
Just as Jiang Yaoyao was about to reach for it, he suddenly withdrew his hand, his deep and clear voice carrying a hint of amusement.
“I didn’t consider this earlier. Applying medicine in your condition might be a bit inconvenient.”
His eyes curved slightly as he looked at her, his long, narrow phoenix eyes shimmering with light, captivating and intense.
“If I help, would you mind?”
The little beauty tilted her delicate chin, blinking her pretty eyes a few times.
The man simply watched her, a faint smile playing at his lips as he asked in a low voice,
“Yaoyao, are you nervous?”
His words hit Jiang Yaoyao right in the heart.
A faint blush spread across her cheeks as she nervously bit her lip, trying to sound composed in her soft voice.
“Why would I mind? It’s not a big deal…”
“Besides, why would I be nervous? That’s ridiculous—”
Before she could finish, a warm hand wrapped around her calf.
Jiang Yaoyao’s body jolted, and she immediately tensed up.
Sitting on the sofa, she watched in shock as the man grasped her leg and then—
Dropped down onto one knee.
This position… it looked just like a marriage proposal.
Jiang Yaoyao’s face turned an even deeper shade of red, and her eyes became even more misty.
At this moment, she didn’t look like someone having medicine applied to her; she looked more like someone being bullied.
The little beauty bit down on her lip, her plump lips glistening with moisture. She lowered her long eyelashes, her gaze landing on Pei Heng’s well-groomed fingertips.
His hands were large, with long, slender fingers.
His sleeves were rolled up, revealing lean and well-defined muscles. When he exerted force, the veins on the back of his hand became subtly visible, exuding a quiet strength.
And now, those cold, pale fingers were gently clasping her ankle.
The slightly rough pads of his fingers brushed against her soft skin, sending a tingling sensation up her leg.
