Crossflow: A Novel
Crossflow chapter 50

As an alpha, being knocked to the ground by an omega during a sparring session and then taunted by the omega was an utter humiliation!

Tao Fengche’s face turned red, but Sui Yuesheng didn’t seem to think it was enough and added teasingly, “Do you admit defeat?”

“No!” Tao Fengche flatly denied.

His blood was boiling from Sui Yuesheng’s words. With a quick kip-up, he stood up, locked eyes with Sui Yuesheng, and earnestly declared, “Let’s go again!”

Tao Fengche dared not be careless anymore, nor did he treat Sui Yuesheng as an omega who needed special care. He shook off any thoughts of going easy, stretched his muscles, and took a serious fighting stance, truly regarding Sui Yuesheng as an equally matched opponent.

Sui Yuesheng’s objective was achieved. He smiled, but his actions were as ruthless as his smile. He struck like lightning, using his palm as a blade, aiming straight for Tao Fengche’s neck.

If this strike landed, dizziness would be the least of his worries.

Fortunately, Tao Fengche was prepared, quickly blocking with his right arm, and the two began to grapple once again.

From the first exchange, Tao Fengche was astonished to find that even though he was going all out, Sui Yuesheng was not an easy opponent. Despite being an omega with a natural disadvantage in strength, Sui Yuesheng’s speed and agility, combined with his high combat skills, made him very challenging to deal with.

Tao Fengche even thought that Sui Yuesheng was more difficult to handle than many of the alpha bodyguards in his family. If it were Wang Yuan, he probably wouldn’t last three moves against Sui Yuesheng.

But Tao Fengche was no pushover either. He countered every move, fighting Sui Yuesheng to a stalemate.

The battle reached a fever pitch.

In the blink of an eye, fifteen minutes passed. Sui Yuesheng caught Tao Fengche’s punch to his shoulder with one hand, then moved in close, striking Tao Fengche’s ribs with his left elbow!

The series of moves, from defense to offense, were executed with seamless fluidity. Tao Fengche couldn’t dodge and had to take the hit head-on.

Because of Sui Yuesheng’s move, the distance between them was so close they could almost hear each other’s breathing. Suddenly, Tao Fengche caught a faint whiff of lychee scent.

…Sui Yuesheng’s pheromones?!

Tao Fengche was stunned and tried to smell it more clearly, but the lychee scent came and went quickly, disappearing in an instant. He sniffed hard, but the familiar scent was gone.

Pheromone blockers are irreversible, so it must have been an illusion, Tao Fengche thought, not noticing the fleeting panic on Sui Yuesheng’s face.

Moments later, Tao Fengche found an opening in Sui Yuesheng’s defense. His eyes lit up, and he quickly executed a hook kick!

This time, it was Sui Yuesheng who was knocked to the ground.

The fight was exhilarating. Tao Fengche felt all his negative emotions vanish. He reached out a hand to help Sui Yuesheng up.

But Sui Yuesheng waved off his offer, stood up on his own, and extended a fist towards Tao Fengche for a fist bump.

Tao Fengche was momentarily dazed.

As a child, he often did this gesture with Sui Yuesheng, especially after successfully pulling off some mischievous act together.

…But back then, their hands were noticeably different in size. Now, they were almost the same size, with his hand even slightly larger.

Time flies by so quickly; it’s already been so many years.

Feeling nostalgic, he was about to ask Sui Yuesheng for another round to decide the winner out of three matches, but before he could speak, Sui Yuesheng seemed to read his mind and interrupted, “Let’s stop here for today. I have a meeting later and need to shower in advance.”

Tao Fengche couldn’t hide his disappointment but nodded. Sui Yuesheng was busy with work, and finding time to accompany him today was already a pleasant surprise.

Sui Yuesheng smiled and turned to leave. Although it was a normal action, Tao Fengche couldn’t help but sense a hint of hurried retreat in his back.

Watching Sui Yuesheng’s departing figure, Tao Fengche felt puzzled. Just then, a few drops of sweat rolled down from his forehead into his eyes.

A sharp sting made him shut his eyes tightly. He quickly wiped away the sweat and then froze, realizing something was amiss.

He opened his eyes and slowly looked down, his last bit of hopeful denial vanishing.

He was wearing loose workout clothes, but one part was reacting too conspicuously, creating a noticeable bulge in the dark fabric.

Tao Fengche: “…”

Damn it.

How did this happen…

Did Sui Yuesheng run away because he saw this?!

No wonder he looked so embarrassed!

But this wasn’t something he could control. He didn’t know why it was disobedient…

Tao Fengche could swear to the heavens that he had no intention of being a pervert!

His face was red enough to bleed, his expression blank, standing alone like a lonely statue in the training ground.

Even with the thickest skin, he couldn’t just walk back to the main house to shower like this. Xu Song had left ten minutes ago for some errands. Calling a driver for just a few steps would be too conspicuous…

Fortunately, the training ground’s first floor had a shower room, fully equipped. Tao Fengche stood under cold water for five minutes before his reaction finally subsided. He let out a long breath, finally relaxing.

The cold water washed away the sticky sweat, stimulating him into several shivers, slowly jump-starting his thoughts.

After the shower, while toweling his hair dry, he suddenly paused—

Wait, didn’t Sui Yuesheng study business abroad?

That’s why the old man let him take over the family business. Ever since Chu Yin passed away, his uncle Zhao Jiayang had been living a reckless life, pouring all his energy into finding a substitute.

The logic chain seemed fine, and Sui Yuesheng had been doing well managing the Tao family business. His shooting skills made sense, but why was he so good at fighting?!

Even though he had initially held back, it shouldn’t have been easy for Sui Yuesheng to knock him down within three moves, not to mention he looked so effortless at the time…

What did Sui Yuesheng do during those ten years he was away?

Tao Fengche frowned deeply, realizing that after all these years, he had never truly understood Sui Yuesheng.

Sui Yuesheng was full of mysteries, and every time Tao Fengche felt like he had solved one, more would emerge.

How many secrets is he still hiding? Tao Fengche wondered, perplexed.

Sui Yuesheng rushed back to his room like a gust of wind, but he did not go to the bathroom to take a shower as he had told Tao Fengche earlier.

He didn’t even have time to regulate his breathing. As soon as he pushed open the door, he darted into the dressing room, rummaged through the pocket of a suit, and pulled out a small transparent pill box. He hurriedly swallowed a few pills with the half glass of cold water on the bedside table.

It took a long time for his heavy breathing to gradually calm down. He went to the bathroom to wash his face and wiped the water off with a towel. After leaning against the bedhead for a while, seemingly exhausted, he picked up his phone and made a call.

The phone rang for a long time before it was finally answered. Jing Ning’s somewhat displeased voice came from the other end, “I’m busy here, why did you suddenly…”

“My pheromones leaked,” Sui Yuesheng cut Jing Ning off, his words hitting like a hammer.

Jing Ning froze, no longer concerned about anything else, “Didn’t you take your medication?”

“I did, three times a day, without missing a dose,” Sui Yuesheng rubbed his temples and sighed heavily.

“But this shouldn’t be happening,” Jing Ning said, the sound of pages turning could be heard, as if he was looking for something. After a moment, he spoke again, “Did something happen just now?”

“I was sparring with Tao Fengche in the Tao family’s training ground.”

Jing Ning: “…”

“It’s not what you’re thinking,” Sui Yuesheng said, unable to hide his fatigue, “just normal sparring.”

“Oh, oh, oh,” Jing Ning finally reacted, “That might be due to intense physical activity. Although it hasn’t happened before, you know, we don’t have many subjects to study as references.”

“As long as you keep taking your medication, your body will adjust on its own.”

Sui Yuesheng, however, asked a seemingly unrelated question, “Are you at the institute?”

“Yes, I’m doing experiments,” Jing Ning was taken aback, then realized what Sui Yuesheng meant. He lowered his voice, speaking seriously, “Sui Yuesheng, I must remind you, your frequency and dosage of injections over the past two years have been increasing.”

“And you refuse to find an alpha, this is seriously damaging your body, and you…”

“Spare me the nonsense,” Sui Yuesheng interrupted, getting out of bed to find clean clothes, “I’ll leave home in ten minutes. If you want to do the experiment, get ready.”

He didn’t give Jing Ning a chance to speak, hanging up the phone directly.

Jing Ning sighed heavily.

Skilled in his actions, he opened an encrypted folder on his computer, entered a password, and opened a spreadsheet. He noted the date, then flipped back through the records.

At first, it was once a year. Two years ago, it became twice a year.

But Sui Yuesheng had already visited the institute once when he returned to Jingpu a month and a half ago.

As a researcher of the medication and as a friend, Jing Ning couldn’t stand by and let Sui Yuesheng continue like this, but he couldn’t persuade him.

With such a handsome face, why was his personality as hard and unpleasant as a stone in a latrine?

Simply uncontrollable!

Jing Ning was at his wit’s end but had no other solutions. After saving the spreadsheet, he closed the computer, got up, and entered his private lab. Standing in front of a cabinet, he took out a flask.

The cabinet slowly slid to the right, revealing a hidden compartment. Jing Ning entered a password and verified his iris. With a click, a rush of cold air hit him—inside was a small freezer with a sterile box lying quietly within.

He carefully took out the semi-finished product from the sterile box, restored the cabinet to its original state, and began to mix it at the workstation. Halfway through, he suddenly remembered something.

If the pheromone compatibility between two people is extremely high, it can trigger an omega’s pheromone leakage.

Seven or eight years ago, there was a volunteer who experienced this. When rolling in bed with his alpha, he suddenly smelled his pheromones and, in a panic, called Jing Ning at two in the morning, asking if the alpha’s semen would cause the medication to fail…

But wasn’t Tao Fengche still underage?

Jing Ning shook his head, thinking he might be overthinking it.
