Chapter 3
Since waking up in this body, Lin Yue had felt something was different.
But since she woke up, things happened one after another, leaving her no time to think about it. Now she finally had some time to examine herself properly.
She sat down by the kang and closed her eyes, trying to recall the scene she saw when she first arrived here.
Suddenly, a world shrouded in mist appeared before her eyes.
That’s right, this was the space she was in at first.
Lin Yue could feel that this place was deeply bound to her soul, and now it was considered part of her body.
And although she didn’t know the principle, when she felt the faint connection between herself and the space, she suddenly understood how to use it.
She walked to the yard and stretched out her right hand towards the grove of trees outside the yard. Just as she was about to move, she hesitated and put it down.
She wasn’t sure what would happen next. There were many families living nearby, and it wouldn’t be good if someone saw her.
The space was now filled with mist. Although she could see inside, she couldn’t get in.
This should be her golden finger. She really wanted to open the space and take a look, so she just stood there in the yard, conflicted and unwilling to give up.
Finally, Lin Yue made up her mind to go to a place outside the village where there was no one to test it.
The two little ones on the kang were sound asleep. Lin Yue tucked them in.
Newborn babies couldn’t roll over yet, but she still found some things to surround them, then she put on thick clothes, wrapped herself up tightly from head to toe, and quietly walked out of the village.
It was already evening. Standing at the door and looking out, there were shadowy green mountains outside the village, and fiery red sunset clouds were hidden among the towering peaks of the Great Cang Mountain.
At the foot of this mountain, ten or so villages were scattered, all belonging to the Great Cang Mountain Commune.
In the village, every household was smoking, and occasionally you could hear the sound of children being scolded, or a few scattered chicken crows, most of which were weak.
The weather was too cold, and it wasn’t the busy farming season, so people were hiding in their homes and didn’t want to go out.
All the way, Lin Yue didn’t meet anyone, which made her feel relieved.
She deliberately chose this time to go out. It was too early to meet people, and it would be too late for everyone to finish their meals, and many people would go to the brigade headquarters to roast by the stove and chat, so there might be more people on the road.
Now, although it wasn’t dark, it was the time with the fewest people on the road.
Lin Yue left the village from the south. There was a mudflat at the east end of the village called Dongkuazi.
This place didn’t grow rice, and the mudflat couldn’t grow any crops either, so it was a wasteland.
Lin Yue’s destination was there.
At this moment, Dongkuazi was full of dry weeds and bare, low shrubs. There were also many small puddles hidden in the grass, and people walking on them would step on water and mud if they weren’t careful.
But because of the drought, the water in the puddles was only a shallow layer, most of which had already frozen.
Lin Yue arrived at the place and stretched out her hand towards the front.
She wanted to put things into the space, and she didn’t need to touch the object, and even without destroying the material structure, she could separate and extract it.
It’s just that this action was a bit embarrassing, she didn’t know if she could find a way to improve it, at least not to make it so obvious.
She closed her eyes and experienced this magical feeling, carefully collecting some soil, water, plants, and insects and animals overwintering in the space, trying not to destroy the original terrain and landforms of Dongkuazi.
After she was done, she didn’t dare to stay any longer. She didn’t have time to see what the space looked like now, so she hurried back home.
The two little ones were still asleep. She reached out and touched their breath, reached into the blanket and touched their temperature, confirming that they were really sleeping.
She was amused by her own neurotic behavior, and she giggled to herself for a while.
Aunt Su returned again, she patted Lin Yue on the back and laughed, “What are you giggling about by yourself?” Lin Yue was startled, seeing it was Aunt Su, she asked, “Auntie, didn’t you just go back? Did you forget to say something?” Aunt Su handed her the basket in her hand, which contained a bowl of brown sugar water with boiled eggs and a bowl of corn grits porridge.
She said, “I was in a hurry today, and I didn’t prepare any confinement food for you specifically, eat these first, Auntie will kill a chicken for you tomorrow to make up for it.
” Lin Yue quickly waved her hand to refuse, “Auntie, what are you doing? Don’t spend so much money, I don’t need it.
” Aunt Su scolded her, “You just gave birth, you need to make up for it now, what are you waiting for? Don’t feel burdened, this is Principal Xu’s intention, he paid for it.
I’ll take care of you for a few days, and I can also build a good relationship with Principal Xu, I’m happy to do it!” Although she said so, the two families were not close, Aunt Su already had work to do in the brigade, now she needed to run back and forth to her place every day to take care of her, and she also had to cook separately for her, it was really hard work, Lin Yue remembered this kindness.
Aunt Su also said, “Speaking of which, Principal Xu really cares about you, his proud student. Not only did he go to my house, he also went to find Secretary Liu, asked about your situation, and didn’t go back until it was almost dark.
I think, he treats his own daughter the same way.
” Lin Yue was touched and smiled, “He saved my life a few years ago, and later saw that I was quite smart, and my parents didn’t let me go to school, so he took me as his disciple. Principal Xu’s child was lost early, he treats me as his own daughter.
” Aunt Su nodded and sighed, “No wonder.
” She also said, “By the way, I saw Widow Liu looking at your door when I came in just now, did she come to see you?” Lin Yue shook her head, the original owner didn’t get close to anyone, and she didn’t have any contact with this Widow Liu.
Aunt Su reminded her, “Then don’t bother with her, just avoid her, don’t associate with that kind of person.
” A few years ago, the country was in turmoil, and there were many widows in the village.
No one would casually gossip about widows, but this Widow Liu was different. She had been rather loose in her younger years, and had been involved with many men, making all the women in the village hate her.
Aunt Su, fearing Lin Yue didn’t know the severity of the situation, specially reminded her.
Lin Yue quickly nodded, indicating she understood.
After seeing Aunt Su off, she slipped into the space.
As soon as she entered, she was stunned by the sight. The space was originally filled with mist, but now about two acres of it had cleared, revealing yellow earth covered with withered weeds and shrubs.
The water she collected wasn’t much, and it gathered together to form a small puddle.
The puddle only had a shallow layer of water, and it looked a little murky, with something vaguely rolling around inside.
Lin Yue leaned closer to take a look, and it seemed like there were a few loaches inside. They might have burrowed into the soil for the winter and were just collected along with the soil.
The most prominent feature in the space was a pool. It was paved with some kind of jade, unknown to her, and looked very smooth.
There was a thin layer of clear water at the bottom, and a spring was slowly flowing.
As soon as Lin Yue saw this clear spring, she knew it was formed from the mist.
Even when she was still a soul, she could feel the abundant vitality in the mist. This feeling was even stronger when she saw this spring.
Standing by the pool, Lin Yue’s dilapidated body immediately felt an uncontrollable urge, showing how beneficial this spring water was to humans.
She didn’t want to dirty the pool water, so she went out and took a bowl, carefully scooped up a little spring water and put it in her mouth. She savored it carefully, and apart from being clearer and sweeter than the water she usually drank, it didn’t seem much different from ordinary water.
But Lin Yue quickly discovered the difference. After drinking it, she felt refreshed, and all the fatigue from the day was gone.
Although the fatigue disappeared, a strong feeling of drowsiness suddenly surged up, making her just want to sleep soundly.
There were no seasons in the space, and if not deliberately changed, it would always be around twenty degrees Celsius.
Lin Yue was wearing too many clothes, and now she was too hot. She uncontrollably took off her heavy clothes, leaving only her undergarments.
She moved and calculated, the time flow rate in the space was 5:1 compared to the outside. That is, one day outside was five days in the space.
If she only slept for an hour, it would only be ten or twenty minutes outside.
She was really too tired, thinking about this, she really leaned against the jade wall and fell asleep.
As a result, she slept until it was completely dark outside.
She quickly went out to check on the two little ones. Seeing them sleeping soundly, with no signs of waking up, she felt relieved.
It was also at this time that she discovered that her body was sticky, as if a layer of dirt was covering her, and it also emitted a foul odor.
Moreover, although not as exaggerated as the hair-washing and marrow-cleansing in cultivation novels, she felt that her body was indeed much better, no longer the kind that would be out of breath with a little movement.
She knew this was the benefit of the spring water, and she was immediately overjoyed.
But she was really uncomfortable with how dirty she was now. Fortunately, after heating the goat’s milk, Xu Fu was afraid of cracking the pot, so he added a lot of water to the pot.
She tested it, and the water temperature was just right. She poured the water into a wooden bucket, carried the hot water into the space, and planned to take a good bath.
In this rural area where food and clothing were scarce, the original owner was alone, and she was pregnant, so she was almost unable to bathe. Her body was obviously dirty, but fortunately, she didn’t have any lice on her head or body.
At this moment, she didn’t think about whether she could bathe during her confinement period, anyway, she didn’t have the opportunity to sit confinement.
While bathing, Lin Yue visually realized how thin this body was.
Women’s bodies are usually a little fuller after giving birth, but the original owner was different. Her ribs were clearly visible, but it wasn’t the kind of skin and bones, her body was also swollen, and if you pressed on her skin with your hand, you could see a pit, and it wouldn’t bounce back for a long time.
Lin Yue knew this wasn’t because she had just given birth, but because she had “edema,” caused by long-term malnutrition.
She carefully recalled the three aunts she had met, they were also very thin, but none of them seemed to be as thin as this, let alone swollen.
Lin Yue sighed, stopped thinking about it, and carefully washed her body.
She washed it three times before she felt refreshed.
She left the space and checked the two little ones again. Seeing that they were fine, she went back into the space.
She would have to get up frequently at night to take care of the children, so to ensure enough sleep, she continued to rest by the pool.
Before going to sleep, she thought, before she had complained that the birth rate in the later generations was too low, and the underworld’s reincarnation arrangements were too busy, so the underworld staff just randomly found a remote corner and threw her over to let her fend for herself.
Unexpectedly, when she came here, her benefits were so good. Having a space like this was already magical, and there was even a spirit spring! Happiness came too suddenly, the bad living environment, the original owner’s extremely good relatives, the two hungry little ones, and the husband who only lived in the mouths of others, were all nothing.
Outside the space, the two little ones were still sleeping soundly on the warm kang.
Outside, a figure wrapped up even more tightly than Lin Yue was carefully hiding in the grove of trees outside the fence.
This person wasn’t afraid of the cold, they just kept staring at Lin Yue who was busy inside the house, and because they couldn’t see clearly, they leaned forward and tried to look inside.
From the time Lin Yue left the village, this person had been following behind her. Although they didn’t see Lin Yue do anything, they always felt that she was hiding some secret that others didn’t know.
After all, in this person’s memory, Zhang Yuandong’s wife should have died last night, and even her newborn twins didn’t survive the winter.
The person who should have died was now standing in front of them, how could they not be shocked.
