Chapter 60: Newspapers Paste the Wall

Zhang Yuandong didn’t know why he stopped the person. He felt a little flustered, but quickly came up with an excuse: “I’ll be very busy these days. I’m moving the day after tomorrow, and I may not be able to come back.

You can ask a few more people to help you.

” Lin Yue nodded to show that she understood.

She reminded him again: “When you go to work tomorrow, go to Xiaowu Village and find the old carpenter.

If the furniture is finished, ask him to try to deliver it before the day after tomorrow.

” Zhang Yuandong nodded in agreement.

Their conversation was very ordinary, just like every time they had been together in the short time they had known each other. But maybe it was because the moonlight was so gentle tonight, the two of them stood under the bright moonlight, looking at each other, the atmosphere unconsciously became a little ambiguous.

Zhang Yuandong felt a little flushed and couldn’t look at Lin Yue’s eyes. He hurriedly went out to wash up.

Lin Yue also felt flustered in her heart, afraid that her thoughts would run wild, so she hurried into the house and lay down.

Something like this happened today, she still had a lot of questions to ask Zhang Yuandong, but suddenly she felt a strong urge to sleep.

She lay on the kang, thinking that she would be sleepless, but she didn’t know if it was because Zhang Yuandong had come back, she felt a lot more at ease in her heart, and she slept soundly all night.

Zhang Yuandong entered the room and looked at the kang in the dim candlelight. Seeing that the person was already asleep, he let out a long sigh of relief and carefully lay down on the outermost side of the kang.

In the middle of the night, Lin Yue got up groggily, wanting to take the child to pee, but she found that Zhang Yuandong was lying flat on the kang, his hands resting behind his head, his eyes looking out the window with a bright light.

The window was pasted with thick paper, and the light was very dim during the day, let alone at night, it was almost impossible to see through.

Lin Yue subconsciously glanced out the window, but saw nothing.

Zhang Yuandong found that she was awake, and quickly turned over and sat up, scratching his crew cut, and asked: “Are you going to take the child to pee? You go to sleep, I’ll take them.

” He said, he hugged Wanli and got off the kang, his movements were crisp and neat, not giving Lin Yue any time to react.

Lin Yue scratched her messy hair, groggily lay down and went to sleep, only the corners of her mouth couldn’t help but curl up.

The next day, Zhang Yuandong really got busy.

He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to come back at night, so he got up early in the morning and sent some large items that he didn’t use often to the new house.

He didn’t know who told him about the grain distribution yesterday, so he went to the old house before going to work.

How he spoke to the old couple, Lin Yue didn’t know, and Zhang Yuandong didn’t tell her either.

She only later heard from Jin Ajie that Sun Hongmei chased to the street corner crying and cursing.

Zhang Yuandong went home and only told Lin Yue the final result: “From today on, you don’t have to give money to your parents, and you don’t have to send them anything for the New Year.

Those few bags of grain are considered our advance filial piety to them.

” After he finished speaking, he rode his sidecar to work. Lin Yue stood in the morning autumn wind and gave him a thumb-up.

Lin Yue put most of the important things in the house in the space, and there were not many things left on the surface. She quickly cleaned up the things in the morning and waited for the next day to move.

This small house was too small. The environment that she had originally felt very cramped now felt a little empty.

Lin Yue stood in the narrow house, looking around, her heart felt a little reluctant.

She first opened her eyes in this world, it was here, she and her two children lived in this small space for more than two years, there were many good or bad memories, now she was going to move, she actually felt empty.

The floor of the new house had been dried for two days, and it was basically dry today. Lin Yue held a bowl of paste in one hand and a stack of newspapers in the other, leading the two little ones to paste the walls of the new house.

Children are little angels when adults are free, but they become little devils when adults are busy.

The two little guys were very curious about what adults were doing, they would touch the paste for a while, play with the newspapers for a while, and even wanted to peel off the newspapers that Lin Yue had just pasted.

Lin Yue was so entangled that she took out a red and blue pencil from the space, broke it in half from the middle, and gave each of them half.

This pencil cost three cents, and it was often out of stock.

Lin Yue only had this one, and she had never dared to give it to the children before.

The two little guys had only used fire sticks to draw, this was the first time they saw a pencil, and it was colored. They were so excited that their eyes were shining. They almost fought over the red half.

Lin Yue finally managed to mediate and let them take turns using it, and they finally calmed down.

Lin Yue gave each of them a few pieces of newspaper and told them to draw well, and the ones that were drawn well could be pasted on the wall.

How could children under three years old know how to draw, they would only draw some lines on the paper, or poke some dots, and soon the newspaper was torn and punctured by them.

Lin Yue moved the rest of the stack of newspapers further away, ignored the two little guys, and concentrated on pasting the newspapers.

Pasting the walls was a big project, she worked alone for a long time and didn’t finish it. The two little guys didn’t play for long and wanted to go out to the yard to play.

There were still many materials for building the annex in the yard, Lin Yue was afraid that the children would get hurt, so she didn’t dare to let them go out to play by themselves, she could only coax them while working.

Zhang Daniu’s daughter-in-law, Sun Yuxiang, came with her two daughters. Seeing the scene in the house, she laughed and sent the two girls to play with the children, while she…

She was supposed to help right away.

Don’t think that just because Zhang’s mother often visited her house, Lin Yue was actually very familiar with her family’s daughters-in-law.

Zhang’s mother had a large family, with nearly 30 adults and children living under the same roof, and there were always a lot of conflicts.

Zhang’s mother was also trying to avoid the hustle and bustle, so she would go out to visit whenever there was someone at home.

Lin Yue knew their situation well and didn’t want to get involved in other people’s family affairs, so she only had a nodding acquaintance with these sisters-in-law.

But she was going to move in tomorrow, and they would be spending more time together in the future, so she couldn’t stay aloof like before.

Since the other party was sincerely offering to help, Lin Yue declined a few times before accepting. She quickly took out two hard candies from her pocket and gave one to each of the children.

Sun Yuxiang had the same idea. She came here to build a good relationship.

Seeing Lin Yue giving candy to the children, she smiled, showing her teeth.

Her two daughters, one eight years old and the other six, loved candy. The younger one took the candy and quickly peeled off the wrapper and put it in her mouth.

When Sun Yuxiang saw this, her face immediately changed. She glared fiercely at her younger daughter and said in a low voice, “Erman!” The little girl closed her mouth tightly and stood there stubbornly. Sun Yuxiang smiled awkwardly at Lin Yue and then winked at her older daughter. The older daughter immediately received the signal and went over to pry open her sister’s mouth, using her hand to pry out the candy and carefully wrap it back in the paper.

Lin Yue frowned at this.

Actually, Zhang’s mother’s family wasn’t poor, and the children shouldn’t have to be so strict about eating candy. But Sun Yuxiang was used to being frugal and didn’t like these two daughters, so she didn’t want to give them any treats. This could be seen from the children’s sallow skin and dry, yellow hair.

Zhang’s mother’s family had four main rooms, each occupied by two couples, separated by partitions.

Their kitchen was originally in the front, but later it was moved outside, and a kang was built in the front. Zhang’s mother and the younger children squeezed in there.

Later, there wasn’t enough space, so they built two more side rooms, with bunk beds inside. One room was for the boys and the other for the girls.

The sons and daughters-in-law had long been tired of this kind of life and wanted to separate and move out.

But building a house was a big deal, and they didn’t have enough money to build new houses for everyone.

Zhang’s mother also wanted them to move out quickly. The sons were truly united when there was something to do, but when there was nothing, their own little schemes were many.

She wanted to say that they could build the house slowly, one by one, but no one was willing. They were afraid of losing out.

So it dragged on until now, with more and more children and less and less space, and the conflicts grew bigger and bigger.

Zhang’s mother had talked about these things with Lin Yue many times. Lin Yue listened and felt her scalp tingling. Nearly 30 people squeezed into a small courtyard, how terrifying! Sun Yuxiang was reluctant to give her two daughters good food because she wanted to save money to move out quickly.

She didn’t think she was doing anything wrong, just a little embarrassed. She smiled at Lin Yue and started working diligently.

Lin Yue twitched her lips, but these were other people’s children, so she couldn’t say anything. She could only pretend not to see anything and chatted with Sun Yuxiang while pasting the newspaper.

Sun Yuxiang worked very quickly, and after another hour, they finally finished pasting the walls of the two bedrooms.

Lin Yue felt bad for having her do so much work, so she wanted to keep her for dinner. Sun Yuxiang refused repeatedly before finally saying hesitantly, “Forget about dinner, can you give me some of your children’s old clothes?” Lin Yue heard her ask about children’s clothes and saw her expression, and asked in surprise, “Sister-in-law, are you pregnant?” Seeing her nod, Lin Yue quickly helped her sit down, “You said you’re pregnant, why are you still doing so much work for me? You even climbed so high just now!” Sun Yuxiang waved her hand nonchalantly, “What’s the big deal? When I was pregnant with my first two, I worked in the fields every day, and I never rested for a day! This little bit of work, how can it be as tiring as working in the fields?” Lin Yue was embarrassed to refuse her request since she was pregnant and still helping her, so she agreed to find some old clothes for her two children and give them to her.

Sun Yuxiang specifically asked for Wanli’s clothes and said, “I’ve already had two daughters, and this time I’m hoping to have a son, thanks to your Wanli’s good fortune!” What could Lin Yue say? She couldn’t preach gender equality to her, so she could only smile and agree.

Outside, the four children were playing happily together. The two little girls were very caring and always gave way to Wanli and Lingling.

The two little ones were still too young, and they started fighting over things while playing.

Wanli wanted Lingling’s small shovel, and Lingling wouldn’t let go. They argued for a while.

Zhang Daman’s tone was a little stern, “Lingling, Wanli is a boy, you have to let him have it!” Lingling tilted her head and asked curiously, “Why?” Wanli also looked at Zhang Daman curiously, waiting for her answer.

Zhang Daman explained seriously to the two of them, “All girls have to give way to boys. When you get married, you’ll have to rely on your brothers at home!” Wanli and Lingling didn’t understand. This was different from what they had learned before.

But they were still young, and asking “why” was already their limit.

They quickly lost interest in the question and forgot about the dispute. They continued digging in the dirt in the yard.

Lin Yue looked through the window and saw this scene. Her lips unconsciously tightened.
