Chapter 68: Each with Their Own Thoughts
It was clear from Lin Mei’s reaction that they were a couple.
Lin Mei had always had a temper, and she couldn’t stand it when others praised Lin Yue’s beauty. Zhou Quan’an praised Lin Yue in front of so many people, wasn’t that like overturning a vinegar jar?
Lin Mei didn’t even greet Lin Yue. She grabbed Zhou Quan’an and was about to leave.
Zhou Quan’an was still holding down the rogue, and he almost stumbled when she pulled him.
A flicker of displeasure crossed his face, but he didn’t say anything. He followed Lin Mei anyway.
After such an incident, Liu Fang should have followed them back to write a statement.
But according to the villagers, Zhou Lai Tou was a habitual offender, and Zhang Yuandong was here, so Zhou Quan’an was happy to save himself the trouble. He pretended to give Zhang Yuandong face and only took Zhou Lai Tou away.
He didn’t take him to the county police station. He just found an empty room in the brigade headquarters, locked him inside, and told the village officials to send him to the police station tomorrow. Then he left.
He took Lin Mei to a secluded corner, half-coaxing and half-threatening, and quickly coaxed her into a good mood. He also managed to find out Lin Yue’s identity.
However, Lin Yue’s background was a taboo in the Lin family. Lin Mei didn’t know as much as the people in Xiaoda Village. Thanks to Lin Yue’s years of publicity, everyone in Xiaoda Village knew she was adopted.
Lin Mei didn’t know. She had been studying in another city for the past few years, and she didn’t come back when Lin Lao Da and his wife were gone. She missed the most chaotic period. She had heard some things when she was younger, but she never took them seriously.
When Zhou Quan’an asked, she only said that Lin Yue had a bad relationship with her family, that she was a heartless person who didn’t care about her family or her younger brother after she got married.
Zhou Quan’an didn’t know that Liu Fang was in Xiaoda Village as Lin Yue’s younger sister. He listened to Lin Mei’s words and didn’t think there was anything special about Lin Yue. He wanted to find out more, but Lin Mei refused.
He put the matter aside for now and began to focus on flirting with his girlfriend, who was throwing a tantrum.
He didn’t know that he had missed important information about Lin Yue because he didn’t go back to the square.
On the other side, after Zhou Lai Tou was taken away, the crowd was in an uproar for a while, but they were gradually calmed down by the patrolling militia. They all sat back in their places. At first, there were still whispers, but as the movie plot unfolded, the voices gradually died down.
Lin Yue’s group, except for the two children, none of the three adults had their minds on the movie.
This movie was released at the beginning of the year, and Liu Fang had already seen it.
No matter how novel a fantasy movie was, it was still for children. Liu Fang’s mind was still on Zhou Lai Tou, the rogue. He felt disgusted, but he was also a little excited because of the incident itself, as a “woman” who had fought back.
He was a carefree person, and now his mind was already running wild, thinking about how he would tell his daughter about this incident in vivid detail when he had one.
Lin Yue was thinking about Lin Mei. Lin Mei hadn’t graduated from university yet. Instead of going to the provincial capital to study, she stayed here and started dating Zhang Yuandong’s colleague.
Zhang Yuandong had also seen this movie when he was in the army. He just wanted to accompany Lin Yue and the children to watch it today.
He hesitated for a long time. Although he knew that Lin Yue and her cousin weren’t very close, he still wanted to warn Lin Yue.
He leaned closer to Lin Yue and whispered, “That policeman just now is called Zhou Quan’an. He’s not a good person. He’s been getting very close to a female colleague at the station. Do you want to remind your cousin?”
Lin Yue wasn’t very surprised. She could tell from just now that the policeman wasn’t serious about Lin Mei.
She just couldn’t understand why he was so blatant about dating Lin Mei if he had no intention of marrying her.
After all, at this time, the crime of hooliganism wasn’t just about harassing women. If he didn’t marry Lin Mei, he could very well lose his job.
Lin Mei wasn’t exactly a bad person.
She used to bully the original owner often, but after all, they had grown up together, and she was the best person in that whole family towards the original owner.
Of course, this was relative. She would bully her, but she would also give her some things.
Like a little food when they were younger, or a red coat when she got married.
Because Lin Yue hadn’t received any love from the other members of the Lin family, she remembered the little kindness Lin Mei had shown her.
Lin Yue thought about it for a while and let it go. She didn’t intend to meddle in Lin Mei’s affairs.
After all, their relationship wasn’t very good. Marrying a policeman was Lin Mei’s dream since she was a child. She thought it was better not to get involved, lest she end up getting into trouble.
It’s about respecting other people’s fates, after all.
She leaned closer to Zhang Yuandong and whispered, “Lin Mei is that kind of person. If we really go and remind her, she might even hold a grudge.
If their affairs don’t affect you, let’s not get involved.”
The two of them were too close, and it was dark. Zhang Yuandong felt a warm breath on his face. His ears immediately turned red, and he no longer had the heart to care about other people’s affairs.
As the movie ended, the crowd got up and started heading back.
Their seats were in the middle, and they were carrying two children, so it was a bit of a hassle to get out.
The two children were afraid of being squeezed by the crowd, so by the time they reached the place where the sidecar tricycle was parked, most of the people had already dispersed.
Lin Yue hadn’t seen Mr. Xu anywhere, knowing he probably hadn’t come to watch the movie, she felt a little regretful.
She used to go to Mr. Xu’s place every few days, but recently, with people at home, it wasn’t convenient.
From a distance, they saw that the area around the sidecar tricycle was quite lively. Several children wanted to climb onto the vehicle, but they were chased away.
The village children were mischievous, they really dared to do anything.
The children were angry and threw small stones at the people who chased them away.
When Lin Yue and the others got closer, they saw that it was Sun Hongmei and Zhang Xiaoxi standing there, dodging the stones, looking quite embarrassed.
Since Mr. Xu came to Donglinjia Village as an educated youth, Sun Hongmei rarely came to this village.
The only time she came before was to marry Lin Yue as her daughter-in-law.
Now, she didn’t know what she was thinking, but she had been coming here every few days recently.
Seeing Zhang Yuandong, Sun Hongmei shouted at the mischievous children, “My son is here, he’s a policeman, be careful or he’ll arrest you all!”
The children heard the word “policeman” and scattered in a flash.
Lin Yue thought, why was Sun Hongmei being so kind today, watching their vehicle for them?
She saw Sun Hongmei run over in two steps and shouted, “Son, they were messing around with your car, I chased them all away.”
Zhang Yuandong didn’t call her “Mother,” he just said calmly, “Why aren’t you home? What are you arguing with a bunch of kids for?”
It wasn’t that Zhang Yuandong didn’t know how to be polite, it was just that at this time, whether in the city or in the countryside, children were like this, they would climb onto vehicles when they saw them.
They didn’t dare to do anything else, just touch things here and there, sit on the vehicle, they wouldn’t dare to vandalize.
Everyone was used to it, and they usually didn’t care.
Sun Hongmei didn’t get a good response and didn’t get angry. She just said to herself, “I’ve been waiting for you for a while with your sister. You guys are too slow.
Alright, it’s getting late, let’s go home.”
Lin Yue curiously asked, “Why are you waiting for us here? This car only has a few seats, it can’t fit all of us.”
Sun Hongmei didn’t have a good attitude towards Lin Yue. She said matter-of-factly, “That’s easy, you give me the children, I’ll hold them, and you and that man can walk back.”
Lin Yue saw her confident and arrogant expression, as if she was saying “I’m holding the children, you should be grateful,” and she was immediately amused. She asked back, “Why?”
Sun Hongmei put her hands on her hips and said fiercely, “Why? Because I’m your mother-in-law! You’ve already ridden in the car when you came, you should be satisfied. Now it’s my turn as a mother to ride, and you can walk back!”
If anyone else said this, it would make sense. In other families, there’s no reason for a daughter-in-law to ride in a car while her mother-in-law walks back.
But when these words came out of her mouth, no one would listen to her.
Zhang Yuandong looked at her calmly and said indifferently, “You and Xiaoxi should hurry up and leave. It’s getting late, there won’t be anyone on the road. It’s dark and dangerous, it’s not easy to walk.”
He took out a flashlight from his backpack and handed it to her, “The flashlight is from work, I’ll get it back tomorrow morning.”
Then, he ignored her and pushed Lin Yue past her.
Sun Hongmei was really furious, but since her eldest son joined the army, she had never been able to be bossy with him again.
She had to compromise, “If you want to take your wife, I have no objection. But this woman is not your relative, why should you take her?”
Liu Fang had been quietly watching the show, not intending to interfere in Zhang Yuandong’s family affairs. He didn’t expect the fire to spread to him.
He instantly put on his acting skills and said weakly, “Auntie, I’m Lin Yue’s younger sister, I finally found my way here.
I’m not feeling well, I didn’t come to your house to greet you in time, it’s my fault, don’t be angry with me.
I’m weak and I don’t know the way, I can’t walk back to the village by myself.”
Liu Fang knew the relationship between the two families. He had also been paying attention to Zhang Yuandong’s parents.
He had been secretly observing for so long, he probably understood Sun Hongmei’s temperament better than Lin Yue. After all, he had not only heard about her reputation in the village, but he had also “accidentally” heard her and her husband’s “fighting power” at night.
It was really embarrassing, especially since they were Brother Zhang’s parents. He wished he could poke his own ears blind.
Sun Hongmei still remembered that this “weak” woman had just single-handedly subdued the old rogue in Donglinjia Village.
She spat at Liu Fang, “Where did this wild woman come from, pretending to be related to us? I don’t know if you two are really sisters or not!”
Lin Yue’s ears twitched. She stepped forward, “What do you know? What, do you know more than I do about my biological parents’ relatives?” She had heard Sun Hongmei say these words once before, and she had been suspicious in her heart. Unfortunately, she had never caught her red-handed.
