Chapter 32: Rival in Love
Lin Beixiu still chose to remain silent. After lunch, he went back to his room to rest. With no afternoon classes, he could laze around again.
After resting, he started his shift at work at three in the afternoon.
Sitting idly in the shop at this time, there weren’t many customers, so just watching the shop was enough.
Lin Beixiu looked towards the neighboring convenience store, where a delivery truck had stopped at the entrance. Today was delivery day, and Qin Muxue was helping to move the items into the storage room inside.
Seeing this, Lin Beixiu also went over to help, while the shopkeeper was busy settling accounts with the delivery people.
Following her into the deepest part of the storage room, he placed a box of drinks down.
“Thank you for your help.”
Qin Muxue was very happy when Lin Beixiu had offered to help earlier.
“I’ll treat you to a drink later.”
“Okay.”
Lin Beixiu nodded casually.
After the inventory was checked, Qin Muxue took a bottle of water from the fridge and gave it to him.
Lin Beixiu accepted it, “So it really is a bottle of water, huh? I wanted a cola.”
“No, carbonated drinks should not be consumed too often.”
Lin Beixiu: ……
Is that so.
Lin Beixiu found it strange to be looked after in this way; even his grandfather hadn’t said so much to him. He was pretty much left to his own devices as a child.
Well, the elderly don’t know much about these things.
“Alright, I’ll accept it.”
Lin Beixiu returned to his own shop and continued with his work.
On Qin Muxue’s side, after finishing her work, she came to the entrance out of boredom. She saw the long queue at the neighboring shop, mostly girls, all there to buy milk tea because of Lin Beixiu.
Qin Muxue felt even more jealous. Really, was her little brother Lin that popular? Just because he was handsome and cooked well, what else was there?
This guy was a pure straight man, the kind that could drive people crazy.
But she liked him, and Lin Beixiu could only belong to her, Qin Muxue, ever since they were children.
At this moment, Qin Muxue’s gaze was more determined and persistent than ever. She had to think of a way to bring this silly brother back… lest he be deceived by other bad women outside.
Lin Beixiu worked emotionlessly until a pleasant voice reached him.
“Class president, a cup of pearl milk tea, please.”
Lin Beixiu looked up to see it was the class vice president, Zhang Xueyong.
Lin Beixiu didn’t have much interaction with her, each sticking to their own roles.
Lin Beixiu worked skillfully, the shop was almost empty by now, and Zhang Xueyong stood at the counter, starting a conversation with him.
“You’re so skilled, how long did you learn?”
Lin Beixiu didn’t respond, as if he hadn’t heard, then placed the milk tea in front of her.
“8 yuan.”
Zhang Xueyong looked a bit embarrassed, took out her phone to scan and pay.
She actually liked Lin Beixiu too, but never had the chance. Now, knowing where he worked, she thought to come over and strike up a conversation.
But Lin Beixiu was very aloof, giving her no chance at all.
“Excuse me.”
Zhang Xueyong wanted to say more, but a voice came from behind her. She turned her head to see it was a familiar face from class, Qin Muxue.
Lin Beixiu didn’t expect her to come, and Zhang Xueyong had to make way.
“Is it Qin Muxue? Are you here to buy milk tea too?”
“Mhm.”
Qin Muxue responded casually, standing in front of Lin Beixiu.
Seeing her attitude, Zhang Xueyong clenched her fists. Everyone in class thought they were a couple, but she was unwilling to accept it.
From the first time she saw Lin Beixiu in class, she liked him. So, when Lin Beixiu became the class president, she volunteered to be the vice president, thinking to get closer to him.
Even so, she hadn’t given up to this point, no matter what the outside world said, it was all just rumors.
Lin Beixiu felt odd looking at Qin Muxue’s expression, as if the calm sea hid turbulent waves. He couldn’t help but shiver.
“Cough, what do you want?”
“What do you think?” Qin Muxue’s tone was light but still carried some pressure.
Lin Beixiu was about to jokingly say, “Drinking something too cold isn’t good,” to get back at her for not letting him drink soda earlier, but he didn’t dare now.
“Okay, a cup of grapefruit tea.”
Lin Beixiu quickly made the drink, and Qin Muxue’s expression finally eased. At least this silly boy remembered what she liked to drink.
This scene, in Zhang Xueyong’s eyes, seemed like they were flirting, deeply wounding her heart.
Taking advantage of Lin Beixiu being inside, Zhang Xueyong stood behind her and asked.
“Muxue, you seem very familiar with each other. Do you come here often?”
Qin Muxue glanced at her. As a girl, how could she not know Zhang Xueyong’s thoughts?
“It’s okay. After all, I work next door, and this part-time job was found by Beixiu for me.”
Hearing this, Zhang Xueyong felt even worse, not knowing what else to say, so she just took her milk tea and left.
Lin Beixiu came out with the grapefruit tea just in time, looked at Qin Muxue’s side, and though puzzled, still handed her the drink.
“She left?”
“What, are you disappointed?” Qin Muxue glanced at him irritably.
Lin Beixiu didn’t know why she was acting this way, saying, “I thought you girls would have more to talk about. I’m really not good at talking with girls.”
Lin Beixiu obviously sighed in relief, and Qin Muxue realized she had misunderstood him, feeling slightly better.
“I’m not that close to her.”
Qin Muxue took the grapefruit tea, inserted a straw, and started drinking.
“Speaking of which, you said you can’t chat with girls, but what about me? We get along fine, don’t we?”
“Maybe you’re different,” Lin Beixiu said, unsure of himself.
Qin Muxue’s lips curved up slightly, pleased with his answer. Didn’t it mean he saw her as special?
Qin Muxue laughed and walked outside, with Lin Beixiu calling out from behind.
“Qin Muxue, you haven’t paid yet.”
Qin Muxue didn’t look back. “You pay for me first, I’ll pay you back next time.”
Lin Beixiu: ……
Well, someone came to freeload.
Lin Beixiu rolled his eyes. This needed special condemnation.
That evening, Lin Beixiu rested briefly, planning to order some takeout to fill his stomach.
Then, Qin Muxue came over, and Lin Beixiu glanced at her, saying. “What do you want to eat?”
“Anything.”
Qin Muxue said casually, as nothing really appealed to her compared to what Lin Beixiu cooked.
“Then you might as well just eat plain white rice.”
Lin Beixiu muttered to himself, about to order her a twelve yuan bowl of white rice.
Qin Muxue, angry, stood in front of him, fists clenched.
“Lin Beixiu!”
Lin Beixiu was startled. “Whoa, calm down, I was just joking.”
Lin Beixiu’s seat was at a table in the corner near the door, with Qin Muxue standing there, he had nowhere to run.
