Chapter 2: She’s More Suited to Be a Goldfinch
Changing her clothes, Shen Muyan washed up and tossed and turned in bed. Her arm, as soft as congealed fat, reached out from under the covers, opening the cabinet where the nightlight was placed.
The dim light flickered, adding a touch of warmth to the quiet night, but after pondering for a while, she still couldn’t fall asleep.
She opened her phone and checked the time. It was 1:00 AM. She sent a message to Xu Yang.
“Meow.jpg”
As Shen Muyan expected, Xu Yang’s nightlife was just beginning. Dressed in a black dress that barely reached her knees, she sat gracefully at the bar, waiting for her drink. She saw the message as soon as it arrived.
She clicked on the screen and sent all the pictures from her handsome men album.
“Company signed a model, help me pick one.”
Shen Muyan rubbed her sleepy eyes and clicked on a picture. It was a cover photo from a certain edition of Time magazine. A muscular man, half-naked, stood with his shoulder turned, his eyes radiating a challenging smile. It inexplicably felt a bit greasy.
“Okay, greasy.”
A sincere comment.
Xu Yang took a long sip of her Long Island Iced Tea, a smile playing on her lips. “Is that what you think? I’ll send you a voice message.”
“This guy is so proud of himself because he made it on the cover of Time magazine. If he heard you say that, he’d probably be hiding under the covers crying all night.”
She continued, “Right, the international jewelry exhibition is being held in Shanghai. You’ve got to go!”
Shen Muyan, who was used to drawing and painting in her spare time, would often go shopping at luxury boutiques.
“Let me just say, you’ve just arrived in Shanghai and haven’t earned a single cent, yet you’re already talking about spending tens of thousands.”
Shen Muyan’s translation was accurate and insightful. She knew her own personality well. She couldn’t resist the temptation of jewelry. Those gems, each one sparkling and brilliant, were simply irresistible to her.
“Baby, I’m still missing a little bit of money.”
Shen Princess’s card was directly linked to the family’s financial office, and Shen Qing personally managed it. Buying a mine, a diamond mine, would be a problem.
Shen Muyan, her phone still in her hand, remained silent for a few seconds before being persuaded by Xu Yang.
In a soft and gentle voice, she said, “Don’t worry, I’ll take you.”
“Just use my card to buy gifts. You’re always wearing an empty neck. A pearl necklace.”
“No problem.jpg”
“I’m a little sleepy, I’m going to sleep now.”
Xu Yang didn’t say anything else. She replied with a thumbs-up emoji and then walked over to the bar counter, where she stood by the railings.
She had to participate in this project. She had been to bars and clubs countless times, but she hadn’t met anyone suitable yet.
The morning mist dissipated, and the jewelry exhibition officially opened. Hundreds of luxury brands were distributed in different areas according to their strength. Shen Muyan naturally headed straight for Zone A.
Ning Qing quietly followed behind her.
The dazzling array of jewelry was overwhelming. Shen Muyan loved pearls and jade the most. She didn’t have much interest in diamonds, unless she encountered something truly stunning.
She was wearing a yellow dress with pearl embellishments, a word-shoulder design that accentuated her slender waist, making her appear even more delicate and graceful. The skirt reached her ankles, matching her light-colored heels, creating an elegant and refined look.
She wandered around the various luxury booths, trying on a set of pearl jewelry.
Her soft, translucent honey-brown hair was loosely tied behind her back. Ning Qing stood behind her, brushing her long hair aside as she put on a pearl necklace.
“Sister, you look beautiful.” Her face was plain, but her compliment was sincere.
Shen Muyan wouldn’t feel shy because of someone else’s praise. Instead, she was relaxed and confident, acknowledging her own beauty and the exquisite craftsmanship of the jewelry. “Yeah, I think so too.”
After discussing it, they signed the purchase agreement and swiped their card. There was no hesitation in her stroke of the pen.
The brand would personally deliver the jewelry to her.
The jade exhibition booth was very impressive. It was usually only at auctions that such exquisite pieces could be displayed, and even then, they were only presented through crystal glass. Even through the glass, one could see the exceptional quality of the jade.
The exhibits were generally not for sale, but if the price was right, anything was possible.
Shen Muyan’s aura was as elegant as a swan, making it impossible for anyone to ignore her. Ning Qing helped her put on a crystal-clear jade bracelet from the gift box. As she raised her wrist slightly, the jade bracelet emitted a lustrous glow.
In the distance, a group of men in suits, who had just attended the jewelry summit, were walking in an orderly fashion from the hall.
All the major jewelry merchants were gathered here. The luxury brands were almost monopolized, and in the domestic jewelry market, the only ones who could compete were likely those specializing in jade.
Shen Muyan bought a pair of jade bracelets, the perfect size for her wrists.
It was truly amazing that she could spend so easily. She had worked hard her whole life to earn money, but it was still nothing compared to the casual spending of these people.
Even the auction house Christie’s was willing to negotiate the sale of the pair of bracelets, but now she had gotten them for a bargain. From afar, Rong Jinyan saw Shen Muyan buy the most eye-catching pair of bracelets from the exhibition booth. The most iconic gift box was very eye-catching.
He knew that Qin Yanzhou hadn’t let this matter go. The jewelry group had recently invested heavily in the domestic jade market, and it was unlikely that they would allow such a smooth takeover.
Rong Jinyan shook his head. “The Shanghai elite are all a bunch of hypocrites. Some are incredibly mysterious, and who knows what they’re up to.”
Shen Muyan left the exhibition booth and walked towards their direction. Qin Yanzhou glanced at her casually, his gaze focused on her. He only saw her profile, exquisite like a painting, a thousand times more beautiful than in photos.
Her brows were slightly curved, and her demeanor exuded a charming allure.
She was delicate and charming, luxurious yet not vulgar. She was petite, probably around 1.6 meters tall. Her long, slightly curled hair flowed like a waterfall, silky smooth. Her slender waist could be easily encircled with one hand…
She’s well-suited for chasing fame and fortune in the business world, but she’s even more suited to be a goldfinch.
This was Qin Yanzhou’s first impression of her.
