Chapter 35: Counterattack
The meeting was tense.
“Mr. Shen, recruiting so many people suddenly, shouldn’t you have discussed this with us senior management?” Zheng Wen stood up from his seat, demanding an explanation.
“How dare you be so arbitrary!”
The other executives echoed his sentiments, completely ignoring the fact that Shen Muyan was the one in charge.
Shen Muyan ignored them, focusing on the financial documents about the Ling District. Time ticked by, she didn’t even look at Zheng Wen.
Then, her phone lit up.
Yu sent a message: “I’m at the company building, everything is ready.”
Shen Muyan smirked, a rare sight. She raised her head, her eyes fixed on Zheng Wen, who was acting like a righteous god.
Zheng Wen was naturally pleased with himself.
“From now on, all projects under your responsibility will be transferred to the new vice president who has been transferred from the European branch.”
“On what grounds? Just because you’re surnamed Shen?” Zheng Wen couldn’t contain his anger.
“Why not?” Shen Muyan smiled faintly, her calmness only fueled Zheng Wen’s rage.
“During your tenure in Shanghai, you embezzled one billion in funds from Shen Group, misappropriated another billion, and were involved in a series of illegal activities including bribery. Do you think you still qualify to work for Shen Group?”
“This is all nonsense!”
Shen Muyan stood up, her voice soft yet powerful, every word a sharp arrow: “You’ve been caught, and you’re panicking.”
The meeting room door was knocked on, and Yu entered with the password, followed by several officers from the Public Security Bureau.
“Mr. Zheng, please come with us.”
Two officers handcuffed Zheng Wen, not giving him a chance to explain. The other executives were stunned.
“This is the first time someone from the branch office has fallen from grace like this.”
They were shocked, but more importantly, they were afraid. They feared that they would be next.
The meeting continued. “Welcome to our new vice president in Shanghai.” Shen Muyan returned to her seat as if the incident was just a trivial matter.
The whispers in the meeting room gradually subsided. Initially, they looked down on Shen Muyan, a young CEO, but now they were filled with admiration.
She had taken down Zheng Wen, a seasoned veteran in the corporate world, in such a decisive manner, leaving him with no chance to recover.
“It seems like being surnamed Shen doesn’t guarantee mediocrity.”
Previously, Zheng Wen would criticize and oppose everything Shen Muyan said. Now, the meeting proceeded smoothly.
——
The internal investigation of Shen Group spread like wildfire.
Everyone said that power corrupts, and Shen Muyan directly launched several investigations, setting a precedent for the company.
No one would forget Zheng Wen as a cautionary tale. They would focus on their work and strive to generate profits for the company.
Meanwhile, the media was buzzing. Zhou Wu announced that Shen Group would hold a press conference to respond to the investigation.
“Okay.”
Shen Muyan had been busy dealing with all sorts of matters, leaving her exhausted.
But it was worth it. The company’s employees were motivated, their KPIs and bonuses were increasing.
“Sister, now all the financial newspapers in Shanghai are reporting on this, making Shen Muyan a controversial figure in the public eye.”
“It’s a good thing for now, but we need to be careful.”
“Some websites are even spontaneously forming fan groups, and their numbers are growing. It’s getting out of hand.”
“The stock price fluctuates a lot, and it’s all because of Shen Group. I want to withdraw all the funds.” Shen Muyan was troubled, massaging her temples to relieve the tension.
The situation had reached its climax, and Shen Group had finally stabilized. But before she could breathe a sigh of relief, she felt exhausted.
“I feel like I’m going to get sick.”
“Sister, you should take a good rest this weekend.”
“Hmm.” She simply nodded, but she wasn’t sure if she could actually relax.
At the press conference, reporters surrounded the stage, forming a sea of microphones. Shen Muyan stood gracefully in the center of the stage.
She looked no different from when she first arrived in Shanghai. She wore a light pink long dress with a tailored suit, making her appear both gentle and resilient. Her voice was soft and clear as she answered questions comprehensively.
Her skin was like porcelain, her eyes sparkled, and her red lips curved into a faint smile, erasing any trace of fatigue.
Shen Muyan had made a name for herself through her own abilities, and people were starting to see her true potential.
“All the embezzled funds recovered by Shen Group will be used for charitable causes. Our initial plan is to build 100 fully equipped and well-facilitated love schools in disadvantaged areas, donate over one million books, and provide tens of thousands of love packages every quarter…”
At the end of the press conference, Shen Muyan personally announced the use of the funds recovered from Zheng Wen’s embezzlement. She was meticulous in her explanation.
The applause in the hall was like waves, one after another, echoing through the room.
The press conference was a success. After dealing with the interviews, Shen Muyan was completely drained. She sat down and simply stared blankly.
Her legs were crossed, and she held a fox plush toy in her arms. She had removed her makeup and fancy attire, leaving only her dress. Her mind was blank.
She took a long nap, and when she woke up, the sun was setting.
The setting sun, with its brilliant hues, cast a golden glow on the world. The warm light offered a moment of respite from all her worries.
Shen Muyan didn’t get up. She simply leaned back, enjoying the beauty of the sunset, as the last rays of sunlight were swallowed by the darkness.
Her phone rang. It was Qin Xian.
