Hearing these words, Xu Junzhe was stunned. He hadn’t expected that Xie Bingyan would ask such a question now, and panic instantly appeared on his face.
In his original plan, it didn’t matter if Xie Bingyan didn’t die, as long as she was seriously injured; if she died, even better. Her reaction wasn’t supposed to matter.
But now, hearing her speak this way, Xu Junzhe quickly calmed down amidst his panic, reflecting on which aspect he might have failed to handle well enough to make Xie Bingyan doubt him.
After some thought, he couldn’t come up with an answer. Trembling, he said, “Mom, what are you saying? I don’t understand!”
“You don’t understand? You do understand!” Xie Bingyan, seemingly weakened by blood loss and breathing heavily, struggled slightly and continued to look at Xu Junzhe, sighing, “Junzhe, have I ever treated you badly over the years?”
“No! Mom, you’re bleeding! Don’t talk anymore, I’ll bandage you!” Xu Junzhe said urgently, as if he were about to cry.
“Stop crying! Junzhe, the seatbelt was cut; it was broken!” Xie Bingyan continued.
Xu Junzhe’s whole body trembled.
Xie Bingyan, looking exhausted, saw his expression and seemed even more desperate. She gave a bitter smile and said, “You’re still the same; nothing escapes Mom’s eyes! I’ve just been… blinded by anger and let my guard down!”
Xu Junzhe didn’t speak, his body shaking as if he were struggling to hold back something.
“A few days ago, I argued with your father about the poisoning. I searched and searched, but I couldn’t find who did it! Your third sister said it wasn’t her!”
Xie Bingyan spoke calmly, closing her eyes for a moment before reopening them, her body covered in blood and her face showing extreme fatigue. “Then who did it? Who poisoned Xu Mo? Junzhe, who poisoned Xu Mo?”
Xu Junzhe’s face turned deathly pale, losing all color.
“It’s been many years already! Your eldest and second sisters never mentioned it, and I only just remembered now!” Xie Bingyan wiped the blood from her face. “Junzhe, no matter what, poisoning is wrong!”
Xu Junzhe’s face kept changing color, losing all its blood. He clenched his fists tightly, trembling uncontrollably.
“Mom, what are you talking about? Poisoning?”
“Junzhe! Don’t deny it! Mom knows it’s you! Tell me why you did this? What are you dissatisfied with?”
Xie Bingyan spoke haltingly.
Hearing this, Xu Junzhe’s heart raced, and he felt like he was plunging into darkness. He knew he could no longer hide the truth from Xie Bingyan.
She seemed to have figured it out.
After a moment, Xu Junzhe picked up a shard of glass from the ground, walked a few steps towards her, and his expression became cold. “What am I dissatisfied with? You ask me what I’m dissatisfied with? All of this should have been mine. Everything should have been mine!”
“You—”
Xie Bingyan seemed startled by his reaction.
“I was just a substitute, wasn’t I? From the beginning to the end, I was only a stand-in for Xu Mo! You suddenly brought him back, knowing full well he’s better than me!” Xu Junzhe’s gaze was fixed on Xie Bingyan. “He shouldn’t have come back. He should have died in the orphanage! Why didn’t he die? Why did you hide everything from me?”
Xie Bingyan was stunned.
“I knew it since the year I got into college! I was just a tool! I could be replaced at any time! Everything I once had within my grasp could disappear! You ask me what I’m dissatisfied with? I’m dissatisfied with everything!” Xu Junzhe shouted in fury.
“The year you got into college…”
Xie Bingyan seemed to recall.
“Don’t you remember? How Xu Mo treated you when he was at Tsinghua University? And how he treated me? If I hadn’t worked hard, I would have lost everything long ago! Now, everything is because of you, because of Xu Deming! If you hadn’t compared me to him, maybe we wouldn’t have reached this point!” Xu Junzhe seemed almost insane.
Xie Bingyan was stunned, her eyes wide with disbelief as she stared at her adopted son. She had originally found it hard to believe that Xu Junzhe would do such a thing to her. She had only been probing a little, but to her shock, Xu Junzhe admitted it.
For a moment, Xie Bingyan felt as if the world was spinning!
“You should die! Only with your death will Xie Zhen completely sever ties with Xu Mo! Only then will Xie Zhen relax his guard and possibly even arrest Xu Mo again! Only with your death will Xu Mo break away from Xu Deming’s family, and I won’t be the scapegoat! I am not a scapegoat!” Xu Junzhe was hysterical.
Xie Bingyan stared blankly at him, her trembling hand lifting to point at him. “Junzhe… is this the reason you wanted to poison him?”
“It’s because of you!” Xu Junzhe roared. “The poison was your doing! Don’t deny it!”
“I—”
“But that’s all in the past now! I don’t remember the specific details anymore! Back then, everything was your fault! Do you think Xu Mo hates you so much for no reason? Do you think Xu Mo knows nothing? You’re wrong! You’re outrageously wrong!
In every matter, you played a significant role! If Xu Mo really dies, you will undoubtedly be the chief culprit!”
“……”
Xie Bingyan opened her mouth, her face growing even paler.
“So the only way to end all this is for you to die! I did this out of desperation! If I didn’t, I’d be the one going to prison!”
Xu Junzhe sniffed, glaring fiercely at Xie Bingyan. “So, Mom, just die! Only with your death will Xu Mo stop hating our family!”
Xie Bingyan’s face was like ashes. “So, so you have so many grievances! So… it really is all you! Junzhe, my… good son!”
“Even if it’s me, what of it? Don’t think I’m unaware. You’ve always compared me to Xu Mo, but I don’t want to be compared to him. I’m not a tool!” Xu Junzhe shouted.
“So that’s it! So… you wanted to…”
“Mom, just die! When you die, everything will be turned upside down. Xu Mo will definitely be suspected, so you—” Xu Junzhe was about to continue, when suddenly, his body froze, and he felt a sharp pain shoot up from his lower abdomen.
Xu Junzhe froze for a moment, looking down to see a knife plunged into his abdomen.
Instantly, Xu Junzhe’s eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Xie Bingyan.
“… Mom???”
Xie Bingyan seemed startled as well, quickly withdrawing her hand and taking a step back, her gaze fixed intently on Xu Junzhe.
“Mom, you…”
Xie Bingyan looked at him, her expression suddenly softening and filled with pity.
