After hearing everything, the elderly couple only felt sadness and injustice.
They felt a deep sense of injustice on behalf of Xu Mo!
There was just too much unfairness in all of this.
Xu Mo was such a good child—smart, hardworking, self-reliant, and ambitious. So many people spend their whole lives wishing for a child like this, yet Xie Bingyan ruined it.
In the past, when their health was poor and they had limited mobility, they couldn’t visit the Xu family, so they had never met him all these years.
It is said that Xu Mo only stayed with the Xu family for four years.
If they had gone there earlier, perhaps the situation at the Xu family wouldn’t have escalated to this point. No matter what, as long as there was someone to support him, things wouldn’t have gotten this bad.
As Old Master Xie and Old Madam Zhao listened to Xu Wanting recount each event, she began talking about how Xu Mo became the top scorer in the college entrance examination, started a business, and earned his first pot of gold.
Old Master Xie, after hearing this, couldn’t help but feel his blood boil with excitement. “Good, good, good! Such ambition, such courage, truly admirable! Xie Zhen, if you had shown this kind of courage and foresight back then, I could have died without regrets! You’re no match for him, and neither is Xie Yun. He was simply born at the wrong time!”
“He has such vision and courage—if he entered politics, none of you would be his match! This child is truly exceptional. Xie Bingyan’s wrongdoing is too deep!” Madam Zhao couldn’t help but feel even more heartbroken for her grandson. With tears in her eyes, she was on the verge of cursing Xu Deming.
“Mom was also in despair, so she jumped…” Xu Wanting said through her tears.
At this, the two elders couldn’t help but sigh.
“To have done something like that, even jumping might not atone for it! If that child weren’t strong, he would have been doomed by now!” Old Master Xie said.
“Xie Zhen! You can’t even tell right from wrong. Why didn’t you investigate more thoroughly?” Madam Zhao stared at Xie Zhen, clearly displeased.
Xie Zhen quickly replied, “I thought Xie Bingyan was just speaking out of anger; I never imagined there was more to it…”
“You really can’t tell right from wrong! It’s a good thing that child doesn’t hold a grudge against you; otherwise, you’d be skinned alive even if you didn’t die!” Madam Zhao scolded angrily.
Xie Zhen was instantly left speechless.
Reflecting on the recent events, he realized just how angry he had been during this time.
After his position was downgraded, he found it hard to adjust and was constantly thinking about how to regain it.
A few days ago, when he had the chance to confront Xu Mo, he even stormed into Xu Mo’s office and caused a scene, but Xu Mo didn’t respond to him at all.
Now that he thought about it, he felt even more guilty!
“You should apologize to him! Apologize sincerely! I can tell that the child is a good one! He was just neglected; no one cared about him, and that’s why he became like this! Wanting, Xuehui, there were diaries, right?” Madam Zhao said.
Xu Wanting nodded, “Xu Mo used to write a lot of them, and I’ve read them all! Back then, he really admired us…”
“That’s good! That’s good! That child isn’t heartless; he was just forced into a corner by you all! He was driven to desperation by all of you! Only by doing this would you finally remember him, finally pay attention to him!” Madam Zhao saw the situation clearly and began to shed tears.
Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui trembled, “Grandma, you… you mean…”
“You still don’t see it, do you? He never hurt you, not once! Even though you’ve hated him for years and treated him so unfairly, he still never harmed you, not even in Xuehui’s case, right?” Madam Zhao said.
Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui widened their eyes in realization.
“He just wanted you to remember him! Because only by doing this would you keep him in your minds, would you not forget him! What a good child he is, enduring so much injustice!” Madam Zhao said, her voice breaking as she started to cry again.
“Waah!” Suddenly, the sound of crying came from behind them. Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui turned around to see that it was Xu Shuying, the fifth sibling, who was crying.
Both Xu Wanting and Xu Xuehui were stunned, recalling the events of these past years involving Xu Mo. Indeed, he hadn’t caused them much harm.
Even though Xu Wanting’s company, Deverna, was lost, and she was sentenced to probation, and their fourth sibling was imprisoned, it was all the work of Xu Junzhe.
Xu Mo himself had never actually hurt them.
“Just so we would remember him… How, how is that possible?” Xu Wanting found it hard to believe, but as she listened to Xu Shuying’s sobs, tears uncontrollably welled up in her eyes and streamed down her face.
Xu Xuehui quickly turned her face away, not wanting the others to see her expression.
Seeing this, Xie Zhen couldn’t help but sigh.
What a mess this family is, he thought to himself, feeling a headache coming on. If he had known, he would have stayed out of this chaos.
“Xie Zhen, later you’ll come with us to see that child! He may have had no one to support him before, but his grandparents will stand by him now! No one should go through life completely alone!” Old Master Xie declared.
“Alright!” Xie Zhen agreed, though he wasn’t sure why his eyes had reddened and his nose felt a bit sore.
Just then, the light outside the emergency room suddenly turned off, and a doctor pushed open the door and came out.
“Who is Xu Wanting?”
“I am!” Xu Wanting hurriedly stepped forward, her eyes brimming with tears.
“The patient is awake and has passed the critical stage. She refuses to rest and is calling for you,” the doctor said.
Upon hearing this, Xu Wanting glanced around at everyone before heading forward.
“Be careful; the patient is still very weak and can’t handle much movement. It’s fortunate that there was no injury to the head or heart this time, or even a miracle wouldn’t have saved her!”
“Thank you, doctor!”
Xu Wanting expressed her gratitude, wiped away her tears, and then walked into the room.
Inside, several doctors were still busy.
Xie Bingyan lay on the hospital bed, hooked up to a ventilator. Her face was pale, and she looked to be in great pain.
The doctor explained, “We’ve already given her anesthesia, but for some reason, she insists on staying awake and refuses to close her eyes. She’s adamant about seeing you, so please be careful!”
Xu Wanting’s eyes reddened again as she took a few steps forward and approached Xie Bingyan.
Xie Bingyan was barely breathing, weak and just out of surgery. It was unclear what strength kept her awake, but she was determined to remain conscious.
“Mom…” Xu Wanting called softly.
Xie Bingyan’s face was covered in sweat. Upon hearing her daughter’s voice, she turned her head slightly, her consciousness seeming hazy.
“Ol…oldest… the doc…documents…”
Xu Wanting was taken aback. “Mom, what documents are you talking about?”
“Doc… docu…ments…” Xie Bingyan’s voice was weak, as if she might slip into unconsciousness at any moment. She continued in a broken whisper, “Xu… Xu Mo’s…”
Xu Wanting froze, her body trembling violently. She immediately covered her mouth, nearly breaking down in tears.
Tears uncontrollably welled up in her eyes.
She quickly understood what Xie Bingyan wanted. Nodding, she hurriedly searched through her bag and found a document, which she handed to her mother.
“Mom, here it is!”
“Open… open it,” Xie Bingyan said, her voice barely audible.
With tears blurring her vision, Xu Wanting nodded vigorously. She carefully opened the first page of the document, her tears falling onto it as she read aloud: “My mom’s eyes are like stars, her eyelashes like the moon, her hair like a waterfall… all the most beautiful colors in the world!”
