Tang Lei smiled, “Xu Mo, you’ve been absolutely crazy this time!”
“Indeed! Absolutely crazy!” Gu Huanxi also laughed, his eyes full of admiration.
Li Banzhuang also chuckled, “A total score of 651 points! With this score, Tsinghua University is a sure thing! Xu Mo, you’re truly much more outstanding than us!”
Xu Mo laughed, “What’s so outstanding about this? Let’s not dwell on it for now, let’s go back to school!”
“Alright!”
The four of them hurriedly headed towards the school. At the school gate, they saw a large crowd gathered, mostly reporters who had rushed over upon hearing the news, along with some parents of students, bustling with excitement.
At the entrance of No. 27 High School, a red banner had been hung up, congratulating the school on Xu Mo’s achievement as the top scorer in the science category of the college entrance examination. It was hung high, swaying in the wind.
Seeing the crowd at the school gate, Xu Mo and Tang Lei decided not to enter through the main entrance but instead entered through the school’s back gate.
“Xu Mo!”
“Xu Mo!”
“Xu Mo!”
As they entered the classroom, they were greeted by a multitude of students. When they saw Xu Mo, they couldn’t help but cheer.
Xu Mo smiled at them and noticed their homeroom teacher, Lin Chuyu, present. He ran over and gave her a hug.
“Well done! You did really well this time!” she said warmly.
“Very impressive!”
“Our teachers were all amazed, feeling proud! This is the first time in over thirty years since the founding of No. 27 High School that we’ve secured the top spot in the Xiahai City college entrance examination! Later, school leaders will come to celebrate with you, and there will be interviews with the news media. Be prepared!”
Xu Mo smiled, “Teacher Lin, can I decline the interview?”
“Why decline? They’re already waiting outside the school gate! Just tell your story, talk about how hard you’ve worked!” Lin Chuyu chuckled. “As the top scorer, there may be sponsorships and even offers of a house. Consider whether you want to accept!”
“I’ll pass on that!” Xu Mo chuckled.
“Anyway, when you go to share later, talk more about No. 27 High School! Xu Mo, teacher has the highest hopes for you. You’re truly more promising than anyone else!” Lin Chuyu smiled.
Seeing her like this, Xu Mo felt warmth in his heart. He couldn’t help but acknowledge that over these three years, Teacher Lin had been very kind to him. When he couldn’t eat at home, he would occasionally go to Teacher Lin’s house to eat. At least half of Xu Mo’s success in achieving such good grades was thanks to Teacher Lin.
But the news interview?
Xu Mo couldn’t help but smile inwardly.
He wondered what expressions the Xu family would have now? When their beloved son took the college entrance examination, they were fully armed and prepared, giving their all.
They probably wouldn’t be able to accept such results!
But what if they didn’t accept it?
Xu Mo really wanted to see their expressions!
Without dwelling on it too much, the school leaders quickly arrived, congratulating Xu Mo and advising him on what to say and what not to say during the interview.
Many reporters were already waiting outside the school gate. They needed to go out quickly to make them leave. Since Xu Mo had already achieved the top score, they should let him do the interview first.
Soon, Xu Mo was pushed out and arrived at the school gate.
He almost immediately noticed several familiar cars parked at the school gate, knowing without a doubt that it must be Xu Wanting and the others.
Xu Mo felt no surprise or disturbance at their possible arrival. Whether they came or not, the outcome would be the same!
Microphones were quickly brought close to his mouth by reporters. Compared to being the top scorer in the college entrance examination, people seemed more interested in his orphan identity.
So, Xu Mo answered without hesitation, with a smile on his face.
“Yes! As everyone knows, I grew up in an orphanage since I was young. My family passed away a long time ago. They all died eighteen years ago, completely wiped out! Some died of rotten hearts, some suffered from madness, and some simply died while still alive!”
“After they died clean, I grew up in the orphanage. Fortunately, we had Teacher Lin Chuyu from our school, who ensured I didn’t starve to death! I’m grateful to Teacher Lin Chuyu from our school!”
“Being an orphan is not a glorious thing, nor is it something to celebrate! Being an orphan doesn’t represent hard work, and even less so does it represent misery. I’ve always felt I’m quite alright! Some of my family died of rotten hearts, some of madness, and some just died while still alive. But I consider it a very fortunate thing! It’s precisely because they’re all gone that I’ve worked harder to embrace a new life!”
“Don’t pity them! Although their deaths were tragic, only by dying cleanly can they be worthy of this society, worthy of our family, and worthy of me! Today, as the top scorer, Everything I have achieved is primarily thanks to my school, my homeroom teacher Lin Chuyu, and my three companions from the orphanage! It was them, who, in my darkest days, guided me to where I am now!”
“You are the light in my life!”
“We will continue to strive forward!”
